Chapter 11

Macy's P.O.V.

There was an undeniable sense of betrayal that lingered in my head. Of course, I knew that wasn't Jonathan's purpose in the slightest, or so I hoped.

I told my grandparents that I'd be staying at a hotel for the time being because I needed to cope with this 'new life'. In reality, I was actually house sitting for Jonathan and hoping that no one could see me through the cracks of the window blinds.

The animations have been my top priorities since I arrived here. Jonathan let me know of his self-proclaimed rules, most of them being about his 'work'. From what I gathered, he was a popular YouTube gamer, which didn't interest me much.

Although I dabbled in digital art, that was one of the few things I ever do on my laptop. Instead of videos, I read books. I grew up having to do that since my family never had the money to buy a computer or smartphones.

Jonathan made it very clear that his computer was the only thing I could touch in his room. He thoroughly explained what I should do and how I should do each and every little thing that kept his channel updated. I wrote it all down at the time.

So my journal was sitting by his computer for when I'd upload his next video. I had already uploaded his previous edited video and got in touch with other artists who created thumbnails. Needless to say, we got along quite well.

Now, I was stuck working on animations. The first one was already completed, luckily. It only came out to about two minutes, but that seemed like the usual for other amateur animators.

I was hopelessly bored. Staring at my screen most of the day was further ruining my eyesight. With one final sigh, I pushed my glasses up and closed my laptop. I needed a break.

Animating was tedious, but it was always entertaining. Though today, I couldn't help but feel this sense of dread.

Jonathan forgot. He probably had good reason to, but I had really hoped for a chance to actually become friends. I was hoping that we'd take a night on the town, try some new food, make fun of random people walking by, and look through all of the shops. It seemed that only happened in books.

Through the uncomfortable silence of me laying down on the couch and staring up at the ceiling, a certain ring catches my attention. I ran upstairs, wondering if Jonathan had left his phone, but I was surprised to see that I forgot to turn off his computer.

The ringing never stopped and I couldn't help but go towards the computer. Someone was calling through Skype.

As such, my curiosity bested my restraint and I answered the call. My heart thumped in my chest as a silence grew.

"Delirious, you haven't been answering your phone. What's up?"

My teeth were chattering and I didn't know what to say. I looked at the name, only to see something unfamiliar: Vanoss.

And Delirious of all names. Was that what they called Jonathan? It seemed to fit him.

"Hello," I blurted out. "Delirious isn't here right now. There was a family emergency and he had to leave."

"Then who is this?"

"A friend. I'm house sitting for Delirious right now."

Another notification popped up on the screen and I accepted, only to see another face on the screen and my own.

He was in his early twenties; Asian, muscular, and very amused.

"Delirious never mentioned he had a girlfriend," Vanoss said with a smirk.

"I'm not his girlfriend. We're more like business partners now," I shrug, not liking the idea.

"Well, what's your name?"

"Macy."

And for the next few hours we kept on talking. I found out a lot more about Jonathan than I anticipated and most of what Vanoss, or Evan as I learned, was nothing similar to the Jonathan I knew. He seemed completely different online.

Our very long conversation was ended when someone had knocked at the door. It reeled me out of my thoughts and brought me back to reality. The reality where I probably wasn't supposed to talk to any of Jonathan's friends.

I said my goodbyes to Evan, promising that I'd talk to him again soon. Then I went downstairs, peeking through the front door peephole to check who was outside. I almost screamed when all I saw was an eye staring back at me. Instead, I peeked through the window to see a bearded man at the door.

"Jonathan! Open up. I called you several times and you haven't answered," the man shouted. "Are you okay?"

"Nobody's home!" I shouted back, hoping he'd go away.

There was silence and I sighed in relief. That was until I heard the lock click and the door creaking open. A scream escaped my lips and another scream accompanied mine from the stranger out the door. And as we stood there screaming both of our heads off, I grabbed one of the couch pillows and threw it at his face before running upstairs and hiding in the same spot I scared Jonathan from.

"Who the fuck?" He shouted. I could hear his footsteps coming up the stairs. "Whoever you are. You better show yourself before I call the cops. Where the fuck is Jonathan?"

Cautiously, I left my hiding space and saw the man standing at the end of the hall.

"I'm Macy," he turned around to face me. "I'm Jonathan's neighbor. He asked me to housesit for a few days while he went off somewhere. I swear."

"Macy? You're Macy. The little girl who's been following Jonathan around?"

"I've done no such thing," I said, a bit annoyed that Jonathan described me as such. "Who are you?"

He smiled kindly and apologized. "I'm Luke, Jonathan's friend. Sorry for scaring you."

Apparently, Jonathan wasn't answering any calls or texts. Luke stayed over and I made an early dinner for the both of us. He left afterwards, thanking me again for the food and giving me his number just in case I needed help or Jonathan called me.

It had been a slightly eventful day and I might have already broken some of Jonathan's rules like talking to his friends. My head was clear when I went to bed in the guest room, but that dreaded feeling still stayed. I realize that it wasn't because of our cancelled plans, but because I was worried. I was worried for Jonathan and I hoped he'd come home soon.

Really hoping this chapter wasn't confusing or that boring, but Macy learned even more about Jonathan through his two friends. Yay. Vote and comment

And as always I hope ye enjoyed(:)
