Scales of Justice Tackled

The deed was done in dead of night
No one to witness the victim's plight
And from the site the villain fled
home, pretending to be abed
while with the sun a new day rose
casting its accusing light
on the victim's body in repose . . .
oh, what a ghastly sight!

Detective Cliff Hanger, first on the scene
questioned suspects none too keen
to let on everything they knew
about the victim he learned who
was the brother of the fresh fish store
proprietor, Miss Ima Fish.
She allowed her brother's name was Sal
and she suspected Sal's pal
Biff Monger, who never waited any longer
but was stopped by the arrival
of Inspector Earnest Fellow, who stated
none of them could leave the scene
until he knew what he had seen.

Inspector Fellow chewed his knuckle
examining the heavy buckle that was
used to strike the dead Fish down
and on his face he wore a frown when
noticing his detective's pants
were oddly sagging and at a glance
he knew that, Detective Hanger,
per her wish, had slain the brother of Ima Fish.

Found out with no excuse to make
Cliff asked the Inspector for a break
stating that the brother Sal was forcing
Ima to marry his pal and she, something fishy
suspecting, got Cliff to do detecting and
uncover what Biff and Sal were both expecting
then perhaps apply a little muscle
but Cliff did more, he used his buckle.

'Sorry, Detective but you committed a crime
and for that act you'll do the time as well
will little Miss Ima Fish, your secret paramour.'
He cuffed them both and led them away,
case was solved, noting more to say.
Back in his office, both in jail
Fellows paused and did exhale, commending
himself on a masterful job before
hanging his jacket on the brass door knob.


and in the evidence box was placed an ear plug, a cereal bowl and a trowel
