Chapter Nine
Canna felt her face grow hot as Vivien glared at her, pure fury the only thing etched on her face.
Vivien wrenched herself out of Justin's grasp, mumbled another few swears before stepping to the back of the group.
"W-what was down there?" Jordan stuttered. "We heard screaming but it didn't sound human."
"I honestly don't know." Canna replied, rubbing her neck where Vivien had grasped it. "But I'm going back down there."
"No you aren't." Justin stated, his face suddenly revealing anger. "It isn't safe down there, obviously. You aren't going down there without us."
Canna nodded, secretly grateful that she wasn't going down alone.
"Is this what you were looking at in my room?" Jordan asked, his hand trembling as he tried to go deeper into his hoodie.
Canna nodded wordlessly before walking over to the bed and unzipping the suitcase to reveal several t-shirts and jeans, as well as a hoodie that said "Don't Be Such A Beach".
Disappointed but not surprised that there was nothing to use a weapon, she waved at the four of them to follow her down the ladder.
"I wish I had my gun..." Vivien mumbled as she followed Canna.
"What happened to it?" Jordan questioned as he followed close behind.
"Taken by a Serverus."

They all stood on the bottom, darkness surrounding them. Andrew held Canna's hand tightly, waiting in silent anticipation.
"Hello?" Canna called out.
Silence answered her.
"We mean no harm!" Justin shouted, his voice echoing across the walls.
"What's the password?" A hissing voice replied.
"We don't know," Canna turned to the others, unable to see their faces, "we're just looking for a way out of here."
"Very well, than answer this riddle. I can be blown but I'm not a bubble, I drop but I'm not a tear, I come in different shapes but I'm not a snowflake, I come in different colors but I'm not a cellphone, I come from a tree but I'm not an apple. What am I?"
"That's easy, if you come from a tree but you aren't an apple, and you can also be blown, you're obviously a leaf." Canna answered quickly, a large grin on her face.
"Canna, who are you talking to?"
But Canna didn't have time to answer, at that moment, light flooded the room, revealing a large bird on a perch in the center.
The bird was a magnificent array of purples and whites, its large purple wings tipped in white, as well as its tail.
"Who was talking to me?" Canna wondered allowed.
The bird opened its mouth but instead of screeching, it responded, "I did, little one. I didn't expect you to find me so soon."
The bird ruffled its feathers and a large vine appeared, wrapping itself around the bird's perch and bearing large white apples.
"Come eat my fruit, it will reveal what is unseen to you, and bring knowledge, that has always been there, to the surface."
With slight hesitation, Canna walked forward an grasped a fruit in her hands, it was bright and smelled sweet, so she bit into it. Her head began to spin and swirl with color but she felt safe. She slowly closed her eyes and when she opened them, the walls were covered in blood. Hand prints of people trying to escape littered the walls and floor, the ladder was made of bones and the bird that was once magnificent now had feathers missing and sharp teeth poking out of its beak. It was now that Canna noticed the chain stuck to the bird's leg, trapping it to the perch.
"I've been trapped here for one hundred and twenty seven years... please set me free Canna. You and your friends are the only hope to this world..."
"World? I think you have the wrong people, bird." Canna scoffed. "We're just as stuck here as you are. Not to mention, we're just kids."
"Wait, you're talking to the bird?!" Vivien shouted, grabbing Justin by the shoulders. "Oh my gosh she really is crazy!"
"Guys, eat this fruit," Canna said, ignoring Vivien, "there's something you need to see."
Without hesitation, Andrew joined Canna in eating the fruit, followed by Justin. Jordan was a bit more hesitant and Vivien refused.
"Oh my gosh..." Justin gasped as he looked around.
Jordan vomited almost immediately, or what Canna assumed was Jordan, his body had completely disappeared. All that was left was his baggy jeans, yellow hoodie, and red Converse.
"THAT FRUIT IS TOXIC, WHERE THE HECK DID JORDAN GO!?" Vivien shreiked.
"Relax, girl, he has discovered what he has always known."
"Tell that bird to stop squawking, Canna!
"If you just ate the fruit you would hear her!" Canna shouted at Vivien, growing impatient with her resilience.
"I can't understand her, it still shrieks to me." Justin commented before stroking the bird's head.
The bird cooed before spreading its demented wings.
"Just eat the fruit, Vivien," Canna shouted out of frustration, "it won't kill you."
"Fine."
Vivien walked forward and bit into the apple Jordan was holding.
"What the-" Vivien let out an ear splitting scream and the walls began to shudder.
"You need to leave, Canna. Now."
Canna nodded before grabbing Vivien and running to the now bone ladder. The world as they new it was going to change.
