Chapter 5: I Hate This Holiday
(Your POV)
Ugh, Valentine's Day.
"Do you not like Valentine's Day?" Lucoa asked from your couch while she played on some kind of mobile console called a 'Switch'.
"Not really." I was adjusting my tie in the living room, getting ready for work since today was Monday. "Let's be real here, it's just another holiday that's just made to make people buy more stuff they don't need."
"Come on, Valentine's Day has such a romantic feel to it, why not just embrace it?" Lucoa smiled. "Embrace the love side (Y/N), I'm sure you get a bunch of chocolates at work, and got even more in high school."
"Lucoa, I never got anything in high school because I had no friends." I sweatdropped, recalling my wasted youth that I spent reading. "As for work, I never get anything."
"Wow, is your workplace the kind that doesn't do holidays?" Lucoa looked up from her switch. Or maybe she didn't? Her eyes were closed as per usual??
"No, it's a lively workplace so long as we get our work done, but I'm just VERY unapproachable." I sweatdropped as I cleaned my glasses to make them spotless.
"Well that sucks man, you never got chocolate from anyone?" Lucoa questioned, and I shook my head. "If that's the case, I won't bring up Valentine's Day anymore."
"You don't have to be quiet about it, just don't expect me to get excited about it." I finished cleaning my glasses and touched my pockets to make sure my phone, wallet, and keys were there. "Alright Lucoa, I'll be heading to work now, want me to pick up anything on my way back?"
"Hm...no thank you." Lucoa responded with a smile on her face. "If I think of anything, I'll text you."
"Alright, see you later then." I left the living room and passed by the kitchen to open the front door to my apartment, closing it behind me after I left the apartment.
(Third POV)
Right after you left, the gears in Lucoa's head began turning right away. She was incredibly grateful for you allowing her to live in such a luxurious apartment, and she didn't even need to do anything. Lucoa set the switch down on the table and pulled out her phone. Lucoa dialed the phone number of a friend of hers. Putting the phone close to hear, she heard it ring before someone picked up.
"Kobayashi Residence, Tohru speaking." Tohru picked up the phone on the other side of the line.
"Hey Tohru, it's me, Lucoa." Lucoa informed the person on the other side of the phone. "Listen, how good are your cooking skills? I need your help with something important."
"My cooking skills are second to none!" Tohru bragged confidently, and in response, Lucoa went completely silent, not believing a word from Tohru's mouth. "Okay fine they're decent enough not to make anyone sick so long as I follow the recipe. Are you also planning on making some chocolate?"
"Yeah, I heard that it's kind of a tradition around here to give chocolates to people on Valentine's Day." Lucoa informed the fellow dragon. "Another thing I heard is that the chocolates mean more if you hand make them yourself."
"Hey you and (Y/N) have a bigger kitchen than Kobayashi and I have, so let's do it there!" Tohru suggested, and Lucoa looked at the spotless kitchen. "I'll bring the stuff we need to make the chocolate."
"Alright, I'll get everything ready." Lucoa then remembered the small electric dragon. "Hey, is Kanna coming by too or does she have school today?"
"Kanna has school today, so she won't be with us." Tohru was clearly doing something in the kitchen, because Lucoa could hear the sound of bags being moved.
"Alright, see you then, Tohru."
(Timeskip until Evening, brought to you by Tohru in her dragon form passing by.)
(Your POV)
In the workplace, I was alone as usual. People avoided my desk in the dark and cold corner of the room, right below the AC and under the ONE light that wasn't working. N seriously, I submitted a complaint about the damaged light above my desk a month ago and nothing! I sighed, knowing that I'll have to live with this light for the rest of my days. Still, the thing that really bothered me was how everyone was avoiding me like the flu, and now that Lucoa mentioned Valentine's Day this morning, I was more self conscious about the whole Valentine's Day deal. I noticed that some of my coworkers handed each other chocolates, with the exceptions being Kobayashi and Takiya. Glad to see I'm not the only person on the single boat.
"Man...some chocolate sounds good right now..." I mumbled to myself as I clicked my pen in mild (read: EXTREME) envy of those getting chocolates.
I then thought about the various confectionary shops in my area and my benefits of going there after work. Today chocolate is on a heavy discount, meaning I could get it for cheaper. Only downside is that it'll most likely be sold out by the time I get to it. Then I thought of something incredibly irrelevant.
"What kind of chocolate would Lucoa like?"
Why did I think that? Lucoa is nothing more than a loud roommate who doesn't understand personal space! Then why do I feel obligated to buy her something today...?
"...Gods dammit, the holiday mood infected me too..." I mumbled to myself in an annoyed tone.
Without any signs of stopping, my head began thinking of what kind of chocolate to buy Lucoa. Dark chocolate? Milk chocolate? Mint chocolate? Peanut butter chocolate? What was Lucoa's favorite kind of chocolate? I know, I can use Minerva to find out! I reached into my chest pocket to pull out Minerva, but something felt off to me. I wanted to make Lucoa happy, yet using Minerva just feels like cheating. If I used Minerva, my gift to Lucoa wouldn't feel genuine. I want Lucoa's happiness to be genuine, so my gift has to be genuine.
"GODS DAMNIT I HATE THIS!" I shouted before slamming my face into my desk.
Was I seriously in love with HER?!?!?! But she's so loud, talkative, invasive, airheaded, touchy-feely, annoying, nosy, bratty...yet despite all that, she has her own charm... She's positive, upbeat, helpful, bright, perceptive, motherly, huggable...
Gods fucking damnit I think I fell in love.
I decided to hurry up and finish my paperwork so I can hurry to a nearby confectionery store. I used Minerva not to figure out what Lucoa likes, but rather, what I need to know in order to fill out my paperwork. I had Minerva on my desk as my fingers danced across the keyboard, completing every number that's required. Honestly, I had no idea what I was even filling out, just that I was filling out something with numbers. I was going so fast that my computer could barely keep up with what I was entering until I finally emailed the report to my boss. After I emailed the report, I wrote in Minerva 'No one noticed when he left the office', so I could leave the office building without drawing attention to myself.
(Timeskip because I don't wanna write him leaving the office)
I exited the building and began strolling down the gray cement streets. I passed by various couples who were going on dates because of the romantic holiday. Some couples were normal and walked past while holding their hands, and some were more...happy for lack of a better word. I noticed that one couple in particular was walking past me holding a paper bag from one of the video game stores. The male had long pale blue hair with a stubble on his chin, I could have sworn his eyes were draconic. Meanwhile, his date was a blonde woman with lilac eyes. They looked to be enjoying their time together, and I felt fear rise in my stomach.
What if Lucoa doesn't feel the same way about me?
If she doesn't feel the same way, I fear I might lose contact with her, a fate I consider worse than death.
Before I could ponder the issue further, I came across a confectionary store, and I entered the store in search of chocolate. Inside the store, the black and white tile clicked against my feet as I looked at the empty shelves on the walls. At the counter, a single old man was there.
"Hello Sir, I take it you're here for some last minute chocolate for your loved one?" The old man questioned, and I nodded because that's close enough to why I was here. "There's only one box of chocolate left here, so you can have it."
"Well, it's better than nothing." I walked towards the counter and reached into my pocket for my wallet. "How much for it."
"100 yen." The old man reached below the counter and placed a heart shaped box on the counter. You noticed it had some text on it, but didn't bother reading it.
"Alright, here you go." You gave the old man the yen and grabbed the heart shaped box. "Thank you."
"You look like a troubled youngster, so might I offer some advice?" The elderly man handed me a bag for the box, and put the chocolate in the bag. "Love isn't as scary as you think it is, and it's a lot more than just marrying someone. You can love a friend, love your family, love a pet, love your neighbor, and you can even love strangers. If she doesn't feel the same way, but if you two remain friends, then that there's still love."
"Thanks for the cryptic advice old man."
(Last Timeskip, for now)
I entered the apartment and the first thing I saw was that my kitchen was now a mess. I felt a blood vessel pop, but before I could say anything, someone in front of me cleared their throat. The person in front of me was Lucoa, no surprise, but the surprise was something in her hands.
"Hey (Y/N), Happy Valentine's Day." In Lucoa's hands was a white plate, and on that plate was a chocolate heart ensnared by a chocolate serpent with green eyes. "I wanted to repay you for letting me live here rent free, so here! Your first chocolate ever!"
"You made this?" You were in awe of the chocolate, and Lucoa's bright smile gave it away.
"Yeah, it took a lot of tries, but I did it in the end!" Lucoa sounded proud of herself before you reached into your bag and pulled something out. "What's this?"
"I wanted to thank you for putting up with me." I could feel my face grow warm as I looked away.
"Um, (Y/N)?"
"Yeah?"
"This says 'I want to sex you'...?"
Then I fainted.
(A/N: I know this has a lot of Timeskips, but I mainly wanted to skip over unnecessary travel that adds nothing to the plot. Instead, I want to focus on the action here. Also, this chapter is shorter cuz of reasons. Also, to those of my Champion of Mankind fans, the book'll be out soon. To those of who have no clue what I'm talking about; It's a DxD book with a route function.
