Reading is one of my favorite pastimes. If you cannot find me writing, you can count on finding me reading. And sometimes, if a book just captures my heart and soul, I'll read it over 20 times. Crazy eh? Nah. That's completely normal for me. I've never done written book reviews, only in person. So hopefully you will  not get to lost in my maze of words.

Review :

Through Wind and Fire is a fanfic crafted from J.R.R. Tolkien's works of both The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. And I can honestly say its a fabulous book, one which Tolkien would be proud to read. The way Nessima went about writing this was more than just creative.

What always made me smile, was how at the start of each chapter, she would have verses from the Bible, and other quotes by various authors of the past and each of those quotes fit perfectly with the chapter they were in. Before I would read the chapter itself I would make myself think deeply apon each quote, trying to ponder what they were to represent. A very unique way of trying to draw the reader in with thinking.

Another method Nessima used was the switching back and forth between past and present. As a reader and writer, I am a definite fan of using this technique. Not only to make the tale more interesting, but it also shows you how the character changed from past to present. In the prologue  readers can see the reason why Thranduil became cold and seemingly heartless. Without the flashbacks the reader would not know why he was such and I applaud Nessima for using this way of writing in such a perfect way.

You will most certainly not regret reading this book. And I don't think you need to be a Tolkenite to read this story. It could be a book all on its own and you will come to love each of the characters for many different reasons. You will cry when they cry, your heart will ache as theirs does, you will feel upset and crushed when they feel all hope is lost and you will laugh and smile when they feel joyous. And when a writer can make that happen to you...Well I say they have mastered the art. Often, I would get funny looks from my parents as I would suddenly burst into tears or laugh my head off but I did not mind because I loved feeling those emotions through writing.

After reading the book, from start to finish I learned so many lessons about life. Things I had never really thought about in a deeper sense. Lessons like : the value of family, what true sacrifice is, Forgiveness for even the most heart-wrenching things and valuing friendships. But these lessons are taken to a higher level than they already are. Really folks, this book with take your mind for a marathon and that's a good thing!

I  am sure this book review was not the best, but I tried to give you insight to what Through Wind and Fire is about without really giving away the story.
