Another famous mythical creature, the Centaur, originated in Greece. They are said to be fierce guardians and protectors of their herds. J. K Rowling perceived them as hating humans (I don't blame them), this probably is to do with their connection to nature. In some legends they help humans and others they kill them (probably the human's fault in the first place). Myths of Centaurs traveled worldwide and a lot of fantasy stories contained them.
