Wake Up With a Scream
She lives in a nightmare
Shadows of black and white and brown
Cries in a rusty house in a sea of grass
And fear plagues the ever-skies
It haunts every step, every sepia footprint
Aloud we wish we could scream
But monsters tumble out of the darkness
And terror never showed its feelings
The chosen one, the cursed one
Never knew which is which
For when night falls
And screens brighten
To illuminate a nose, a mouth and ears
The briefest rainbows, illuminates her phone
As she watches her loves fall away...
They return
Weeks later
Though cold without a soul
Their eyes sewn shut with metal clips
Their scalps fuzzy sheens,
And their mouths smooth caverns
Their pupils milky cream
Bloods haunt and quakes
It bubbles with perfume
Though it never healed
Old debts,
We always continue to assume
One day, she might be claimed
Who knows if you never try?
And maybe she'll find peace
In a vicious, polychromatic goodbye

This art is part of a series of statues created by British artists for the Amsterdam Art Festival. It's really cool if you want to check it out.
