|Prologue|
The story opens in the town of Salem, Massachusetts, at Jacob Bailey High School, otherwise known as high school hell to Samantha Gold. Samantha, or Sam, was a 17 year old girl with pale skin, blonde hair and blueish-green eyes, although her mom always said they were just blue, and she always thought they were blueish-green. She was currently sporting an outfit that she and everyone that knew her had never thought they'd see her in, a pair of stockings under a white and coral-colored plaid skirt with a shirt that was coral to match it and white Nikes as well. Her purple reading glasses kept sliding down to the end of her nose and causing her to have to push them back up. She would be 18 in a month and she wanted to write a story for herself, a story that was only told to her in her dreams, but she couldn't bring herself to show anyone else, let alone her school bully.
"Sam! I found a book store that's full of notebooks and pens!" Sam immediately turned to face the voice that was getting closer to her. Her friend, Julianna Heart, was running towards her, wearing a matching skirt, stockings, shoes and shirt combo but in blue. Julianna was a stereotypical Irish child, and just so happened to share a birthday with Sam. Her red hair spiraled in the wind and her green eyes shined like emeralds. She soon reached Sam and grabbed her shoulders. "I found a bookstore!"
"You did?" Sam asked, shocked.
"Yeah! I did! It would be a good place to get the materials for your personal project!"
"Show me the way, Jules."
Sam and Jules walked down the street after school and into an alleyway that led to an ominous bookstore, one that Sam didn't remember seeing before. She looked up at it in awe and noticed the name on the sign.
"Karl's Chaos Book Emporium?" She asked herself aloud.
"Yeah! I found it weird, too, when I first saw it. I didn't notice it until the other day."
"Huh. That's very odd." Sam took a deep breath. "Let's go inside."
Sam and Jules walked inside. The smell of old books and a warm fire filled their noses, and they were in awe at the sight before them. The check out counters were at the very center of the store, and bookshelves formed aisles off to the sides of the store. The bookshelves mostly contained old books full of myths and legends, except for a select few, that contained notebooks galore. It was on one of these that Sam found a notebook and pen set, and the name on the notebook intrigued her.
"The Book of Chaos...?" She picked it up and noticed that it felt warm in her hands. "It's so... Warm..."
"The book has chosen you." Sam jumped and turned to face the voice that spoke. The shop keeper was one of the stereotypical ones from fantasy films, or like Mr. Ollivander from the Harry Potter series.
"What do you mean it's chosen me...?" She asked as Jules came up next to her.
"I mean exactly what I said." The bookkeeper handed her the pen, which was also warm in her hand. "The Book of Chaos is magic. It can bring anything you write in it to life. But until you write 'The End,' the story goes on. It writes its own endings if you don't pay attention to it. Whatever these characters do in the real world is written in the story, as long as the chapter's focused on that character. Write wisely, Samantha." Sam became extremely paranoid.
"H- How did you know my name!?" She asked, seeming to forget the ID she was wearing for school.
"It said it on your school ID." Jules facepalmed.
"Oh yeah... Heheh..." Sam sighed. "How much is it?"
"About $20.00 for the book and an extra $10.00 for the pen." Sam gave him the $30.00 and he nodded before going over to the counter.
"Oh, and one other thing, Sam," he added. "Don't let it fall into the wrong hands." With that cryptic warning in hand, the two left and went back to Sam's house to study for a test they had the next day, not realizing just how crazy everything would get the minute Sam began to write in that book.
