the next morning
The next morning
I wake up and feel someone’s presence beside me. I sleep alone, so I get a little scared. I swallow and look beside me.
God bless my eyes.
Look at that beautiful boy who fell from heaven for me. I prop myself up on my elbows and stare down at him.
Oliver is sleeping peacefully. One of his arms is under his head and the other is on the mattress. His hair, messy, is falling on his forehead. His eyelashes are dark and long. His pink lips are in a straight line. They look inviting.
I sigh inwardly.
“Had your morning dose, did you?” Oliver asks, opening one eye.
Oops. Busted. My face feels hot.
Oliver rolls his eyes and wraps his arms around my waist. He pulls me towards him.
“Oliver!”
He rolls us over so he is looking straight down at me.
“Good morning,” Oliver says.
I busk in the tone of his morning voice, rough and raspy.
He leans down and kisses me.
“Gwen!” I hear my mom calling me from downstairs.
Crap.
And Oliver Carlson, who is on top of me, is trying to get a French kiss first thing in the morning. I haven't even brushed my teeth.
“I hsjdnt breks mwy deed” I mumble, punching him in the chest, trying to move him.
“Mob ig cohjing de,” I say somehow.
Oliver leans back, looking drowsy. “What?”
“I haven't brushed my teeth,” I say. “Mom is calling me.”
Oliver reluctantly moves. I stand up hurriedly. We have to clean the mess we made on the floor. The mattress has moved from where we set it. The covers and the bedsheet are a mess.
“Move, move,” I say, as I fold the comforter. “Quick!”
“Why?” Oliver asks, folding the other one.
“Why?” I look at him. “Mom might be coming upstairs. You can go down the same way you came up, right?”
“Why do I need to go down?” Oliver asks as he gathers the bedsheets together.
I facepalm. “Do you want Mom to come up and see us? What do you think she will say if she finds you in my room?”
Oliver furrows his eyebrows frowning. “But we only talked and slept, what's wrong with that?”
“Honestly?” I say. We both step off the mattress as we pick it up and place it on my bed.
“She won't believe that. Besides, haven't you left some marks of your crime?” I look at him. “Your godforsaken dictionaries.”
Yes. I see the proud glint on his eyes.
I touch my neck. God knows where it is. And if I remember correctly, there isn't just one.
Oliver comes forward.
“It's here,” he says, touching where my neck meets my shoulder. Then he gathers some strands of my hair and covers it. “Done.”
I roll my eyes. “Of course. Now, go to the roof, and don't worry, I'll help you down.”
Oliver frowns. “But—”
“No buts. I don't want to talk with Mom about—”
That's when I hear the footsteps coming upstairs. Oh, crap.
I look at Oliver who's standing in the middle of my room.
“Gwen—” Mom says as she squeezes the knob of my door.
I turn to her. “Yes?”
She narrows her eyes at me. “You're up. What's taking you so long to come downstairs? I was calling you.”
“I, um, I was in the washroom,” I say.
Mom looks past me. I turn around. Crap.
“Did you sleep on the mattress? Where's your bedsheet?”
“Oh, it's dirty, so I pulled it off and folded it,” I say nervously.
Mom gives me a look. “You don't need to fold it. Keep it in the laundry basket.”
“Okay,” I say.
“What are you waiting for? Come with me,” Mom says as she turns around.
“I need to brush my teeth,” I answer.
“You said you had already gone to the washroom,” Mom says.
I press my lips together and smile nervously. “Er...”
Mom shakes her head in annoyance as she closes the door and leaves. I sigh in relief.
Then I go towards my closet and open the door.
Oh my.
Oliver glares up at me.
“Hi,” I say. I can barely hold back my laugh.
You see, I am not a very organized person when it comes to clothes. As I lose my undergarments easily, I keep them on hangers in my closet. So when I pushed my boyfriend into it, he ended up quite a few falling on him. One is on his shoulder and the other is on his head.
“You!” Oliver growls.
I take them off for him as I suppress my laughter. He stumbles as he walks out of the closet.
He looks down and there's another one around his feet.
He leans down and takes it off. He holds it over. It's red.
Oliver's face is more red.
I can't hold it back anymore. I lean over in laughter, holding my stomach.
Oliver, as expected, looks at me like he wants to murder me. He is more red than a tomato, like all his blood rose to his face and neck.
“If you are so embarrassed looking at the trailer, what will you do when you watch the whole movie?” I say, laughing.
Oliver puts it inside my closet and closes the door. Then he turns to me.
“You are going to pay for this!”
I look at him and squeal. I run for my life as Oliver tries to grab me. I use the teddy bear as my shield. But Oliver dives towards me and pins me down on the bed.
“I will show you some trailers,” Oliver says, looking down at me. “And we will see how well you handle them.”
“I will handle them better than you did,” I answer with my face held high.
Oliver's hand goes to the side of my stomach. “Oh really?” He challenges and he starts tickling me.
“Oliver, stop!” I say as I laugh. "Oliver!"
“How's that?” He says as he tickles me more.
“Oliver!” I say as I punch him, laughing. I am crying from laughter.
Someone clears their throat.
Oliver stops. He looks around. So do I.
“So you were in the washroom?” Mom says with her hands on her hips.
Oliver looks at me. He swallows.
“Downstairs. Both of you,” Mom states before leaving.
We are dead. So dead.
“It's all your fault,” I state.
“It's our fault,” Oliver responds.
“Nah, buddy, I am not taking part in your punishment. Good luck,” I say as I pat on his shoulder.
