TBC: Chapter Twenty Four
(I don't know if you guys even care or not, but would you want to see what I look like? Ya know, the author behind the screen.)
Dr. Nicca James Alfarone
"The hell do you mean Mihkail was taken?!?" I sputtered, standing up abruptly. "Then why in the hell are you just sitting here?!" I demanded to know, folding my arms in a bout of anger. "B-because the people who took him," Svetlana stood up, a look of fear in her eyes. "they belong to the Deathrow pack." She whispered and I furrowed my eyebrows, knowing I had heard that name before. "Isn't that the gang that Raymond came from?" Jose turned to Kaiden, who nodded in verification. "Yes. Is he somehow connected to this?" He asked and Savastian sighed. "This is what I feared. Raymond DiCaprio is not the Alpha of the rogue pack but his father, Renaldo DiCaprio is."
I had heard that name somewhere. "Dad, how many enemies do we have?" I inquired, leaning on my elbow. "Why is that we just can't be who we are without worrying about anything else?" My father Nicolai turned to me, a fierce look on his face as he let out a breath of oppression. "Well, Nicca. We have many enemies." He began. "But there's one person who has done so much to our family and we still haven't figured out why." I tilted my head. "Do you know who?" He nodded in response. "Though I can't figure out his connection to the Deathrow, I know he had something to do with my father's death. He had something to do with your maternal grandmother's death. He's been after us for awhile and I have a feeling he's looking for something important, just don't know what." He ran a hand through hair and let out a tiny growl, remembering those painful memories.
"Who is he?" I asked. "Everyone knows him because supposedly, he's some business mogul from Moscow and he suddenly turned up here years ago, out of all places he could've possibly went. He's the CEO of the hospital you work at but he has actually never came there." My heart thundered deeply and my eyes widened, knowing how close I was to a potential killer. "Dad..." He snapped his head over to me, finishing his words.
"Renaldo DiCaprio."
So all of this time, I was putting my family in jeopardy? "Renaldo killing my family was all apart of his ploy to get to me?" I sputtered and Svetlana nodded in reply. "We had no idea why his pack was constantly at war with us. It had gotten to the point where they used a different tactic once they realized that Mikhail was mateless for the longest. Usually that meant that he or his mate was special, and it so happened to be you. That's why Raymond set out to America in search for you to give to his father." I recoiled back in disgust, shivering against Jose. "He wants your power, which is why you have to figure out how to use it before they can use it against you." She warned and I sighed. "I know." In the back of my head, I could hear an old lady whispering something in my ear.
"Don't spend your time trying to figure out what you can't know. Embrace the unknown and it would surely become known to you." I shook my head, trying to figure what all of that meant, and right then and there, a slight pain made a hole into the side of mind and I closed my eyes, trying to figure out what it was. My head jumped back in shock and I clutched Jose.
"Whatever you do, Nicca," Mikhail shivered, speaking huskily through our bond and I jumped at the sound of his voice. "Do not get caught by them. I don't know what I would do if I lost you." The distress in his voice scared me and I just wanted hold him in my arms and let him know everything was okay. My baby needed me that's for sure and before I could even think about figuring how to respond, the connection through our minds snapped away and I could no longer connect to him. He felt nervous but he wasn't scared. It's almost as if he was trying to warn me from some dangers. A tear escaped my eye and I could feel nails digging into the sides of my arm. They weren't from me, but Mikhail and I knew someone was hurting him badly.
"We don't have time." I gritted my teeth in sheer fury. "We don't have time for me to try to learn whatever this is, Svetlana." I stated coldly, fear running through my body. "We don't have time because while we sit here, Mikhail is somewhere running out of blood, dying." I bit my lip to try to keep my tears in and remain rational and calm. If I could feel Mikhail's dwindling life span and his intense pain with his fiery emotions while just a mere human, there's no telling what he could feel. This was all very new to me and while I was still coming around to the fact that the supernatural actually existed, I didn't have much time to dwell on that any longer. "Round up all of the wolves in this pack who are able to fight. Make sure they get warm clothes and enough energy in their systems. We only have a few hours," I whispered, feeling Mikhail's pulse slowing down. "So let's get moving."
"What am I supposed to do, Luna?" I blinked twice at the said name towards me and I blushed. "Um, Savastian, we can use your help in getting Mikhail back. Svetlana, I noticed you wincing every time you put pressure on your legs so you can stay here and tend to the injured, okay?" She nodded softly with a small smile on her face. She motioned for me to follow her as she led me to some dark hall, many voices being heard. I heard coughs being emitted, sounds of pained cries as we walked through the dim hall, silence suddenly coming over us. "Here they are." Mikhail's mother walked through a door and flicked the light on, many people looking at me warily. "W-Who is this?" Someone coughed and my heart bled for them. Renaldo and his people had the nerve to attack such precious people. There were many women who had blood on themselves, probably trying to protect their mates and children. I let out a sigh and stepped forward, placing a hand on Svetlana's shoulder.
"My name is Nicca Alfarone and I am the mate of your Alpha." I introduced myself to everyone and they saluted me as quickly as they could stand on their own two feet. "Your Alpha is in danger and we need to save him. I have a feeling I know where he is so I just need the people who are able to move to come with me and make sure to keep yourselves safe from harm." I threw out to the twenty something people that stood, staring at me like I had just told them the best news. I raised an eyebrow and they started clamoring with excitement, walking towards me as I turned around to face Jose, who had a look of boredom on his face.
"I'm not going to ask you to go, Jose." I said but he waved a hand at me. "No way in hell are you going to leave me here." He rolled his eyes and Kaiden narrowed his own at him. "I don't know how I feel about that but stay by me at all times." He growled and Jose shrugged, slipping on his coat since it was cold at night. "Do you need any weapons?" Aleksandr walked up to me and I shook my head. "No. I don't think I'll need one." And it was true. I was walking out into this battle aimlessly, no weapons, no tactic, nothing. I had a plan for the pack members to follow but I didn't have one for myself. I didn't think I would need one.
"Luna," Someone addressed me as I walked, opening the door, the wind sweeping through like the sound of a horror movie. "Yes?" I nodded. "How bad is the Alpha hurt?" I sighed, closing my eyes, my heart beating erratically through my chest, like it was going to come out. "He's hurt badly." I admitted. "I can feel it and it hurts like fucking hell." I sniffled as I turned back to the door, the pack following me out. It felt like someone was cutting a knife through my heart. Mikhail was hurt and it was because of me. I had to do whatever it took to save him because it finally hit me. I met him about 3 months ago and I had gotten to know him every single day, inside and out, and I've come to love everything I saw.
I love Mikhail Nikarovich Baranov with every single part of me.
"Be safe, Luna." Svetlana threw out as she stood at the entryway, Savastian beside me. "I will. I'll do you one better and bring your son back." I smiled and gave my goodbyes, heading into the deep, dark forest. "You know where he is?" Aleksandr asked and I nodded. "He's somewhere cold, somewhere windy and surrounded by many trees, somewhere guarded heavily with wolfsbane but it's not affecting the one who made the barrier." I narrowed my eyes, walking through many branches. I felt a strange feeling coming from the right of me so I turned left. "I'm not sure if you guys would be able to come through because I have a feeling it's surrounded by wolfsbane and I don't want you to get hurt." I explained and someone went to protest. "But what if you get hurt?" I was about to answer his question when I looked forward and saw the worst thing I possibly could've ever seen in my 29 years of life.
My heart dropped as I saw his blood body on the ground, my feet moving automatically to pull him into my arms. I reached down, touching his cold skin, his blood coming to a still. A tear came out of my eye once I realized that everything I was afraid to happen, was coming true right in front of my eyes. "No...no...Mikhail!" I shook his body rapidly, watching as his lips curled up into a sad smile, his eyes closed, his hand falling limp in mine as the remaining blood he had been holding in his mouth trailed out. "Mikhail?" I sputtered, hoping that this was a dream, that I wasn't witnessing this.
"It's a trigger to set your change upon." I remembered hearing a woman's voice in my ear as she rubbed my soft face.
"This can't be happening!" I pleaded with the gods above, holding my mate's cold body in my arms. I didn't feel his lifeline or his emotions, which let me know the worst had came. I bit my lip to keep my screams in as the pack members gasped, standing outside the wolfsbane line. Everything was crashing down on me all at once. Agony was running through my heart as my chest tightened even more when I sensed an intruder. "Shedding tears already?" A deep, gruff voice pierced the air as I made eye contact with the man who resembled the person who ruined my life. I rubbed my tears from my eyes, placing Mikhail's body on the ground.
"You're so young now but when the time comes, you will know just what to do. Everything can either be saved or killed because of you. Make the right decision."
"HOW FUCKING DARE YOU HURT MY MIKHAIL!?" I roared in pure rage and anger, rumbles of my voices reflecting against the harsh forest and I could feel my veins bubbling with the pure irate of blood. I stood to my full height, unaware that my body was glowing with a green line around my silhouette. I flicked my eyes over to the man who stood with blood on his hands as he stared at me. "Finally found you, Chosen Luna." He snickered happily as he aimed his gun at me and I tilted my head, raising my finger up at him, snapping them and all of a sudden, his gun dropped. "Ah, yes you did." I chuckled mercilessly as I narrowed my eyes, raising my finger along with his body into the air, cutting off his air.
"But you've crossed the line."
