CHAPTER 26.

Chapter 26: Why Her?

*

"He thought not of why,

He thought not of how,

He thought not of when,

He thought not of the world,

He thought of not of anything,

But.

Her.

And that was how he fell in love."

-2am-

*

Yahyah parked the car in the garage before the four of them got off and took out their shopping from the trunk. He wanted to talk to her so bad. But he respected her decision. She needs time, Yahyah. She needs time. He kept repeating that in his head like some chant.

"Thank you" Aanabia thanked him and he nodded at her before turning to Nahal.

"The cupcakes were great by the way" she looked up to him with wide doe like eyes and he let out a smile. She stared at him really hard and he felt his heart rate quicken. Stop staring at me woman.

"Why me?" her question caught him off guard. He opened his mouth to answer but he found he could not say anything. Why her? I....... don't know? Before he could comprehend and answer, his mother and brother entered the garage. His mother, upon seeing the girls called out for them. Nahal gave him one last look before walking towards Zaiha with a small smile.

Huh. Why her? Why Nahal of all women I have met in my life?

Zaiha hugged the girls before inviting them inside for a cup of tea. The girls readily agreed, opting to take their shopping home before returning. Yahyah watched as they carried their bags out of the garage and decided to do the same.

"What exactly transpired between you and Nahal?" whispered Yazdan, picking up the bags from the trunk. Yahyah looked over the open trunk towards the house. He let out a small laugh.

"I will tell you later" When I figure that out for myself.

"Boys! Hurry up" called out Zaiha and Yahyah rolled his eyes before picking up the last bags and rushing into the house behind Yazdan. He placed the bags on the counter and walked back outside to take his phone and lock the car. He was going to lock it when he noticed something glinting at the floor of the backseat, right behind the drivers seat. He opened the door and bent down, picking it up.

It was an earring. Huh.

"Yahyah?" he heard his mother call him. He placed the earring in his jean pocket and shut the door. The only woman who set in this car recently at the back is Nahal. He smiled.

"Coming mom" he called out before locking the car and jogging into the house.

Yazdan tried his best to avoid the sudden tea party his mother had organized. But he also knows that Zaiha's words are good as law. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that she is a lawyer.

So here he set, staring at the large cup of milk tea with the most amount of froth. Zaiha was chatting with Nahal and Aanabia about something while Yahyah was in his own world, probably thinking something about Nahal or work. Those were the only things, Yazdan realized, keeping his best friend busy lately. He glanced at Zul who was busily writing something on his notebook. He peered into the book and realized it was an essay. He let out a small laugh.

Zul looked up to him with a frown.

"Is it not good?" he questioned Yazdan, about his essay. Yazdan picked up his cup of tea and shrugged, smirking at him. Zul sighed before going back to writing.

Yazdan's phone rang with a notification and he pulled it out of his sweatpants pocket. Fiji-Gang. He chuckled lightly when he saw the messages from the said Viber group. It was the group created in Fiji, back three years ago. How time flies.

Urwa: As salaam alaikum! Long time!

Karmaan: Wa alaikum mus salaam. We literally just met woman!

Urwa: This was not for you! I meant everyone else. Jeez. People nowadays.

Karmaan: Oh please. 😜😜

Yazdan let out a small smile as he read them bicker back and forth. Kids.

Kayan Bhai: Wa alaikum mus salaam, Urwa. How are you? @Karmaan Stop giving her a hard time!

Amyrah Bhabhi: Wa alaikum mus salaam, Baby chiwawa. 😉🐩

Urwa: Myrah bubu! Rudddeee!

Urwa: @Kayan bhai Alhamdulillah good.

Amyrah Bhabhi: What'd I say?

Farhaan: Wa alaikum mus salaam, Urwa.

Umair: Wa alaikum mussalaam. Shouldn't you be studying? 😂😂😂😂

Safwah: URWAAAAA. Was salaam! How are you? How is medical school treating you??

Urwa: Safwaahhh bhaaiii! I am good Alhamdulillah. Medical school is...... stressful. Hahahahaa. Let us not forget the pressure I have to endure because I am Umair's sister. Jeez.😭😭😖😔🙄

Safwah: Huh? Umari's sister?

Urwa: BHAHAHAHAHAHA. UMARRRIII. @Umar. You are now Umari.

Safwah: *Umair. 🤦‍♂️

Umair: What-ever.

Yazdan let out a small laugh when he read the last bits. His family are crazy. Yahyah looked over his shoulder and read the messages before letting out a laugh too.

"Umari?" Yazdan laughed at his words.

"Typical Urwa"

"Ohh. The brother is a doctor, ahy. No wonder" said Yahyah, leaning onto the couch. Yazdan nodded, shutting his phone off.

"You should have seen them at  Aaiyla and Ehaan's wedding. I swear they were like a bunch of 3 year olds" said Yazdan, smiling at the fond memory. If only we could go back to those days.

"Yazdan" he looked up from his tea to the voice who called him. Aanabia. He smiled slightly at her.

"Yeah?" Oh heart, stop racing will you?

She stared at him for a brief moment before shaking her head and walking away, leaving Yazdan confused. Why'd she do that? He let out a sigh before picking up his empty up and standing up.

"You done?" he asked Yahyah and the other one nodded, before standing up too. He had a smirk on his face and Yazdan knew he had witnessed that too. He looked over to see Zul, still scribbling on his book. Guess he didn't see it. Good.

He followed Yahyah to the kitchen. Yahyah opted to wash his cup and Yazdan gave his to him too. The former glared at the latter but it made no difference to Yazdan.

"Ah yes. We have to go to the mosque for the Zuhr prayer" said Yazdan, looking at the time. It was some minutes past 12pm now and Zuhr was around 1pm. "I am heading up"

With that, Yazdan walked upstairs to his room. He showered and changed into washed jeans and a white thobe, before standing in front of the mirror and staring at his reflection. It was rare for him to wear a thobe, let alone a white one. But he did look good. He brushed his long hair back and stared at himself. Should I get a haircut? I know mom would be so proud of me if I did it. haha. He chuckled to himself at the thought. His mother always had something to say for his hair. True, it was a little longer than he usually anticipated it to be, so it would have to be cut.

"Later, In sha Allah" he muttered to himself before putting on moisturizer on his face, hands and feet. He then picked up his phone, wallet and walked out of the room, called out Yahyah. The said boy was already downstairs, waiting impatiently for him.

When he saw Yahyah, he grinned automatically. The two were wearing thobes! He was not alone in this.

"Lets go!" he walked out of the house, following Yahyah. He stopped only to wear his shoes.

"Ah should we walk down?"

"It takes roughly 20 minutes to walk there, Yaz!" scolded Yahyah and Yazdan nodded. But we had walked to the mosque sometime ago?

The two got in Yahyah's white Mercedes and soon were on their way to the mosque. By the time they reached, the Imaam was getting ready to call out the Adhan. Yazdan saw Raeef who called him over. They joined the Saff before the Imaam called out the Adhaan and Zuhr began successfully.
