Part 7: The Fuzzball
Ezra remembers the first night he spent with the ghost crew. The dinner Hera had made him looked so tempting. He looked around the small dinning area; he, Hera and Kannan were the only ones actually sitting at the table, awkward.
Sabine and Zeb were standing with there plates in their hands, leaning against the counter. They were talking to each other, giggling every once in a while, but not about how stupid Ezra looked today, about something the other one had said.
Sabine turned her head and looked directly into Ezra's eyes, he switched his gaze towards the table quickly. Dammit. He knew she was still staring at him, waiting.
Ezra finally picked up his fork and used it to siege a piece of creamy orange stuff on his plate. He looked up at Sabine and Zeb who were both staring at him now, and stuck the fork into his mouth. His mouth was immediately filled with the most incredible sensation it had been exposed to in a long time. It tasted, amazing.
He put his fork down and let his mouth absorb the feeling for a couple moments, then his instincts took control. This food could not have been his, whoever it belonged to was bound to be back soon. He would have to finish it fast so he wouldn't go hungry.
He grabbed his fork and stabbed into every color on his plate then stuffed it all into his mouth as quick as he could. As he repeated this process over and over again, Sabine lifted a hand to her mouth and Hera put her fork down then looked at him worriedly. Kanan lifted a tired hand to his forehead as if to block his eyes from the sun, then asked,
"You hungry, Kid?" Ezra was too busy to hear. Through all this, it had been Zeb who had gotten up to hand him his own plate.
"Hey kid, I've been look'in to talk to you." Ezra frantically looked to the bunks, and then to the Lasat, but unfortunately, Zeb was between him and their beds. His friend continued.
"Look, I'm sorry for what I called you yesterday. And I completely understand why you were mad. After the empire massacred my people, I also had to-", Ezra was too focused on getting to his journal to listen.
"Look, Zeb. Now really is not the best time. Could you please leave so I can get some sleep, I'm really tired." Then, instead of waiting for an answer, he practically pushed the fuzzball out of the room.
"But-". Ezra slammed the door, then sighed. Whatever his friend was trying to tell him could not have been nearly as important as getting back to Lothal. He dug his hand underneath the mattress until he felt the journal, pulled it out, then jumped onto the bunk to give him easier access to the air vent above.
Holding the small book in his front teeth, he took off the cover and climbed into the shaft. The Ghost was still connected to the control ship, (thank goodness), so all he had to do was quietly crawl over the dinning area where Kanan and Hera were still talking, climb down to the air lock, then he could open it and just walk right into the Horizon.
The real problem was that Kanan could not only hear his padawan coming, but "sense" him as well. Though if Kanan knew that Ezra was crawling around above him as he discussed a potential mission with Hera, he made no effort to stop him or ask were he was going.
After he sneaked down the latter he took the journal out of his mouth and stood in front of the airlock. The Ghost was still connected to the control ship, right? Hera could have disconnected wile he was talking with Zeb. If so, opening the air lock would kill all of them. Don't be ridicules.
Then he opened it. Of course, all he could see in front of him was the hall way of the control ship. But then an alarm started beeping, notifying everyone on board that the airlock has been opened. Ezra had forgotten that would happen. He quickly closed the door and sprinted down the hallway, this time ignoring the glances from the pilots.
Once he had made his way to the fighter, Ezra was horrified to see that Maud was nowhere to be found. Oh no! What if it was the space pirates?
"Maud?" he called softly. He wasn't going to start panicking yet. Then he heard footsteps from behind and quickly spun around.
"Its just me," said Maud, "I went to go find another helmet." She gestured to the headpiece she had been holding in her hand.
"Oh, yeah." Ezra scratched the back of his neck awkwardly. "I guess we may need that. Lets get going." They both took the same positions in the A-wing as before, then Ezra opened the cargo-bay door and started to take off.
"You know how to drive, right?" Asked the girl, nervously. Ezra grinned like an insane person and and furiously grabbed the controls. Then he let out a wolfish howl and jolted the ship out of the exit, hitting the wall in the process. He wanted badly to show off more by doing a couple barrel rolls or maybe even a figure eight, but the truth was, no, he didn't know how to drive. He only had the information he had saved from helping Hera copilot. Ezra decided it was best not to tell Maud this. The tholothian just rolled her eyes and reminded him to put his seat belt on.
Once they were officially disconnected to the rest of the fleet, reality kicked in. They were going rogue, stealing a ship that was supposed to be used to help people. Then Ezra remembered; they were doing this to save people.
"This thing has a hyper drive, right?" asked Maud.
"Relax. All the old models do, I think," he answered. Maud closed her eyes, she couldn't handle anymore stress. Then again, that was kind of what this 'mission' was about.
"Read me some of it," Ezra was surprised to hear the words come out of his own mouth. Days before, the last thing he wanted was to relive his past, now all he wanted was for Shyer to stop hurting people because of him, because of what he did.
Maud smiled, and opened up a page in the journal.

Zeb knew something was up. The kid was acting weirder than normal. He thought it probably had something to do with the journal Ezra had hidden under his mattress, forgetting that Zeb's bed was right underneath his.
Zeb hadn't read through it, he respected the kid's privacy. Plus, he felt sorry for the word that had slept out of his mouth the morning before. Of course, this was all before Ezra had shut him down when he brought up his past.
How could he be so empathetic? Didn't he care about what happened to him? But that was the thing that got Zeb, Ezra does care. He had demonstrated that side of him numerous times before. That was just who he was. That was how Zeb knew something was up.
He went to Sabine first. He didn't want to get the babysitter's involved, not yet.
"Sabine, kid's been acting wierd, right?" the mandalorian was so deep into one of her paintings that Zeb didn't know if she had heard him at first. She mumbled in response, so he persisted.
"Do you have any idea why?" then she put down her paint gun.
"It's that chick from Cloud City. I saw them talking in Kanan's room," she sounded as if she'd been thinking about it a lot.
"Well, they're both gone," Zeb crossed his arms, and Sabine's eyes widened.
"What? We have to tell Hera," she made a beeline for the door, but Zeb stopped her.
"No, I don't think they're doing," he hesitated. "that", Sabine turned to face him.
"Then where are they?"

The girl read:
Entry 67
I got fired. Thankfully it wasn't from my favorite job, but I'm scared of how much this is going to effect my income. All I did, and I'm not making this up, is look at my boss' girlfriend. Not even flirt with her or anything gross like that, just acknowledged her presence like I would any other customer. How was I supposed to know she was his girlfriend? I guess I'll have to go back to steeling coin for a bit until I find another job.
