Part 10: The Shallow Cave
The first thing Maud saw when she woke was the grey, polluted sky of Lothal; she was home. She sat up in the crammed fighter-jet that she had apparently fallen asleep in and fear struck her as she realized that her annoying, raven-haired fox was nowhere in sight.
She opened the roof of the jet and hopped out.
"Ezra?" There was no answer. She looked around, taking in her surroundings. While she was sleeping, Ezra must have docked them near the entrance to the small cave she was standing in. She was about to call out again when she spotted Ezra just outside crouching by a fire. Maud walked over to him.
"What're you doing?" he jumped when he heard her. He must have been deep in thought.
"Oh, hey." he looked down at the fire. "Just cooking breakfast." Maud then noticed the heap of matter cooking in the middle of the flames. It looked like a lothbird. She knew how hard they were to catch and wondered if Ezra had used his jedi abilities to do so. She wasn't scared by the thought, she was just hungry.
Ezra must have noticed the uneasiness in her face, because he got up, "Listen, about yesterday-" Maud cut him off.
"Don't." She didn't want to talk about it. She saw everything she needed to know. She saw everything she needed to know in order to confirm her fears; Ezra couldn't stay with her. His loyalty was to the rebellion now, not her.
"No, listen." His harsh words caught her attention and she looked at him.
"You didn't go through all that trouble finding me just to start drama and act like I'm nothing to you. You did it because our home is in danger and we're the only ones who can save it," Maud started to interrupt, but Ezra pushed past her.
"I'm not done. Maud, you always act like you don't care about anything and I know why. It's because you wish you didn't care. You treat your compassion like a curse because that's what you think it takes to get to who you want," He took Maud's hand in his.
"Maud, I can't stand you. You drive me crazy because you make a game out of confusing the hell out of me. But I think I still feel it" With her free hand, the rabbit slapped the fox in the face.
They looked at each other in confusion for a moment, then Maud grabbed Ezra's shirt and smashed his lips onto hers.
I may use this same exact scene for another story I'm working on, just a heads up. Also, you didn't ask for this so I'm sorry.
