23. Under Control
Her body ached while adrenaline rushed fiercely through her as she struggled to free herself.
Her head hurt while tears brimmed in her green eyes as she was dragged down a hallway of some unknown place.
The effect of the Statify spell had still not completely worn off so fatigue and tiredness made Evie weak as she could feel herself yet again falling into the dark abyss of unconsciousness.
"Leave me!" She wanted to shout but it came out more as a faint whisper.
The ghoul did not even spare a glance and pulled Evie roughly by her arm as she struggled to gain balance and stand.
Her eyes frantically wandered around as with each heartbeat she could feel fear growing in her. But she held on and tried to calm down because afterall struggling in such a state wouldn't be of much use, rather, it would just suck away the remaining energy left in her.
So she inhaled the air surrounding her which smelled like blood and rotten flesh causing Evie to gag and almost throw up in disgust.
"Breath in...breath out..." She kept reminding herself while trying to ignore the smell as her heart slowly calmed while her rational side took over.
Judging on the basis of the place she was in, it looked like it had once been some grand building, now left in ruins. Its beauty not gone but slowly fading away. There were paintings hung on the walls of the corridors, most of them having horrifying and blood curling images shown.
So she tore her eyes away from them and mustering a bit courage, asked a question to her captor with a wavering voice, "Where are you taking me?"
"You'll know soon." The ghoul replied with a chuckle, "But what I can say is that you will be of great use so be a good girl will ya and don't create trouble for yourself."
Evie rolled her eyes as she could now feel her energy coming back to her, but still it wasn't enough to tackle this ghoul and use her magic.
On they walked, taking a left and sometimes a right until they finally stopped at a dead end.
"What happened..." Evie called out. "Tired already?"
The ghoul didn't reply but instead, kept a hand on the painting which was hung on the wall. It showed a picture of a throne.
He muttered something under his breath as Evie strained to hear and caught only a few words which she realized belonged to some weird language she had never heard before.
"Probably some stupid language of these ghouls." She thought as right after that, the painting disappeared and in place of it appeared a door.
"Whoa!" She could not help but exclaim as the ghoul turned to glare at her and then carefully opening the door, pushed her inside.
The impact of the push caused Evie to stumble and land on her stomach. With a painful grunt, she got up with her hands and looked around this new room.
It was a huge one, which would have been covered in complete darkness had it not been for the fires that were blazing in some old fashioned lantern kept on the either sides of the throne.
Her eyes then settled on the throne which had sharp and defined cuts.
"How does one sit on that?" She though. "It looks so uncomfortable."
But these thoughts soon left her mind as Evie noticed that behind the throne, a man stood wearing a long black robe. His hair, from what she could see from behind, were jet black and a bit wavy.
"My Lord." The ghoul, who had captured Evie spoke, as his words echoed in the silent room.
Evie's eyes once again settled on the man as she noticed him shuffle and then his voice boomed, "Albrutus, glad to see you back."
"Albrutus, so that's the name of this stinky ghoul."
Albrutus sat on his knees with his head kept low and his gaze fixed on the ground. "My Lord, I have brought someone to you and I believe that she would be of great help to us."
A few moments passed in tense silence as Evie's gaze was fixed on the man to whom Albrutus referred to with 'Lord'.
"And who is this she may I know?"
"Prince Taehyung's friend."
An alarmed feeling rose in Evie when she heard the Prince's name. Something really bad was going on.
"Hey, listen you both." Evie suddenly spoke, trying to sound brave unlike the fear that was starting to form in her. "Who are you and why have you brought me here?"
The ghoul looked at Evie with wide eyes as if she had said something really bad and hurt him.
A light chuckle came to Evie's ears as she looked at the man with furrowed eyebrows.
"Young lady, do you even know whom you are speaking to?"
Evie suddenly felt her courage grow as she shook her head and responded firmly, "If I did then why would I ask of who you are? And why are you hiding behind that silly looking throne?"
"You want to see me?" The man behind the throne said in a low voice which sounded more like a challenge than a simple question. Nevertheless, Evie nodded as she took a brave step ahead. "Yes, I want to see you."
Suddenly, the fires which had been providing light went out as Evie heard the sound of footsteps heading towards her. Her heart started pounding in her chest as she squinted her eyes, trying to grasp any hint of light but did not succeed as the room was pitch black.
Silence took over as she cautiously called out, "Hello?"
And that's when two bright red eyes appeared right infront of her as a loud scream escaped her lips.

Walking towards his work place, King Edward passed by a few rooms till he finally reached a door with the words, 'Financial Costs' carved on its wood.
He turned its door nob and the door opened as he walked inside and lit a candle which provided some light.
A tired sigh escaped his lips as he wore his specs and sat on a chair kept beside a table which had a bundle of books kept on it.
Beside the books were scrolls of parchment papers as the King dipped a feather into an ink pot and started writing down some details.
It was past mid night yet he did not go to sleep as there was a lot of work he had to do so whoever says that King's don't have any work and are free all day then, damn them.
A few minutes passed after which King Edward heaved a sigh and kept the writing feather aside. He just could not focus.
"Edward! They are after me. I don't want to die yet, I have not done anything wrong. You believe me, don't you?"
"I do and don't worry, I will try to make father understand. Till then, stay safe and out of sight, ok?"
Edward rubbed his face which now showed hints of old age combined with pressure and worry which were starting to take their toll over him.
It had been years since that incident, yet he could not forget of what had happened.
It had been hears since that incident, yet he could not forgive himself for the deed he had done.

She stumbled back and with heavy breaths, looked at the fierce red eyes of the man who stood infront of her. She knew that she was in grave danger but still, a part of her wanted to see how this man looked like.
And just as if her thoughts had been read, the fires came back to life while her breath hitched as her eyes settled on the man.
"Greetings Miss Evie to the land of dark magic!"
And with that a menacing laugh rose from the mans chest as his blood like eyes shone while a dark aura surrounded him.
Evie, who was now forcefully kept on her knees with her hands tied to her back glared at the man and then at the ghoul who stood next to her.
Albrutus, who turned out to be a close associate of the Dark Lord told each and every detail of what had happened between Evie and the Prince and how she had ran towards the woods.
He explained the reason of why he had brought her here as Damien, who was sitting on his throne, listened to each and every word with deep and unwavering interest.
When Albrutus was finally done, Damien looked at Evie with a certain glint in his eyes which Evie knew was upto no good because whose kidding here, it is the ruler of darkness who we are speaking of afterall.
"A broken heart huh?" Damien spoke with a chuckle as he looked at Evie straight in the eye.
"Pain and anger combined..." He continued as he got up from his throne and walked towards the girl, his black robes touching the ground as he did so.
Damien now stood right infront of Evie as he tilted his head.
"A feeling of anger...a feeling of jealousy. What if I told you that you could use these negative emotions to make yourself stronger."
Evie looked at Damien in disgust as she smirked in a mocking way and then looked away, rolling her eyes. "Oooh, so interesting. I am intrigued." She spoke with sarcasm lacing the tone of her voice.
Damien's before calm expression turned to anger as he bent down to Evie's level and holding her chin, harshly made her look into his eyes.
"Evie..." He whispered as a chill ran down her spine. "Would you not like to have the Prince all for yourself?"
A few minutes passed draped in silence as Evie slowly shook her head, "Why do you care?" She asked to which Damien slightly smiled.
"I know how you feel..." He said, his voice strangely pulling her to him. "I know how it feels to be rejected and thrown to one side just because you are not accepted and cared for."
"But I am accepted! I have my friends and family by my side and they care for me." Evie spoke, suddenly feeling attacked.
Damien just shrugged his shoulders as he let go of her and stood straight, "Do they, Evie?"
No response came to which Damien continued, "Do they truly care about you? Do they even want you in their life? Your parents sent you here, far away, because they wanted to get rid of a nuisance like you. You are alone..."
Evie shook her head as a swirl of emotions starting forming in her, "No, its not like that." She wanted to sound firm in her words but they just came out in the form of a quivering voice.
Seeing this, Damien smirked. "See, even you are doubtful of the love your parents have for you."
Evie shook her head once again, like a small child about to throw a tantrum. "But I still have my friends! Jungkook, Taehyung-"
"Taehyung? You really think he even takes you as a friend?" Damien cut in. "He only cares about that girl he loves, who said that he even cares about you? You are worthless..."
"I am not!"
"You are not needed. Nobody likes you, nobody cares about you."
Evie just continued to shake her head in denial as she wanted to block out the voice that kept speaking words which hit her heart like a thorn.
She felt emotionally attacked as tears formed in her eyes, blurring her sight.
Ever since a child, Evie had been told to be strong, to never let tears stain her cheeks.
She had been told to be independent and for this quality to firm itself in her, her parents used to stay strict with her and so, she hardy used to receive any warmth from them.
Their presence was more like a shadow, sometimes there but mostly not. They did not help, but just pointed out her mistakes and this caused Evie to withdraw from the person she truly was. It caused her to form a barrier between her and anyone else as she feared that if she would be her true self then the others would judge her.
But still, even after all this, Evie still held on to the hope that she was loved, that she was needed and on having someone poke her on this topic was starting to hurt.
It was like a reminder that no matter what, she would always be alone.
"Stop, just stop...please." She finally spoke in a whisper as her voice echoed in the room.
Damien smiled, glad on seeing how his plan worked so efficiently. Keeping his hand on the girls shoulder, he looked at her with shining red eyes as he spoke, "Would you not like to get revenge?"
These words caused Evie's heart to stop beating for a second as she looked up with wide eyes.
"Would you not like to end the person who is the reason of why you got rejected?"
Evie gulped as she heard those words, Aera immediately coming in her mind. The words sounded tempting but she shook her head once again, desperate to not let negativity fill in her.
On seeing this reaction, Damien raised an eyebrow as his red eyes shone with more ferocity.
"Give in Evie, stop resisting. It's of no use anyways."
"Go away..." The girl just weakly whispered.
Damien tried harder, his eyes shining even more brightly as he looked at her deep in the eye, trying to get into her mind. "Evie..." He called out once more. "Join me and I will give you such a power that will help you rise to the top of the world and prove everyone wrong. We, together, will show the world of how darkness has and always will reign."
"GO AWAY!" Evie shouted in anger as pushed Damien aside and got up, her breaths heavy while tears rolling down her cheeks.
Not waiting even for a second, Evie turned towards the open doors as she ran towards them as fast as she could. But before she could even pass through the door's frame, Damien threw a spell on her which hit her back, causing her to suddenly freeze.
A headache hit her as Evie could feel another power taking control of her mind.
She tried to fight it but failed as her green eyes slowly clouded and turned to red while her once bright look became dull and shady.
Slowly, she turned around and facing the man in the long black robes, bowed down speaking the next few words in a low voice,
"My Lord, how may I serve you?"
Hi guys!
So before going, why not give a listen to the song Lily posted above. I feel like the lyrics of the song kind of match the situation Evie is in.
