20. Meet And Greet

As the little droplets of water which were formed in the clouds, hit the ground, a rhythmic sound was formed as it followed the same pattern again and again;

Pit Pat, Pit Pat...

The water in the rivers increased as rain water mixed in them, causing them to overflow their banks and cover a larger area.

Frogs croaked as they hopped around on their web shaped feet, enjoying the rain and the misty atmosphere.

A distant sound echoed in the quiet woods as Jimin walked past a few trees and towards the river which now had a fast flow.

He avoided the muddy areas in order to not dirty the boots he wore as he jumped over a few puddles and finally reached the place he was headed for.

A soothing feeling settled deep in his heart as he approached the huge tree which stood a few meters away from him. Coming under its shade, a place where the water droplets could not reach due to the dense canopy the tree formed, he smiled as he rested his back on its moist bark.

This was the type of weather he loved as it always helped in calming him and clearing his mind, bringing peace and pure happiness to fill inside.

This was the place where he would come whenever he felt burdened or lost. It was like as if the woods had a special magic to them which never failed to sooth the saddest of hearts.

He let his eyes wander around from a poppy flower to a fairy collecting its nectar to probably use it in making a special dish made once in a year for a fairy festival in which these little creatures used to celebrate the coming of rain.

Unknowingly, he started humming along to the sound of the rain as a smile crept up on his face.

But this quietness was soon disturbed as he suddenly heard the sound of leaves crunching from afar.

Jimin turned around to see who was approaching as his eyes caught the sight of a red shirt which disappeared behind a huge banyan tree.

Curiosity took the better of him as he left the place he was standing at and walked towards that tree.

As he walked closer and closer, his ears caught the sound of soft weeping coming from a person.

Jimin arched his eyebrows in confusion as he bent down and hiding behind a small bush saw a girl of his age sitting on the wet ground, tears occasionally falling from her eyes and rolling down her cheeks.

She reminded him of a nymph Grandma Helda would read about in a fairy tale story before tucking him and Aera to bed when they small kids.

The girl's beauty mesmerized him as he could not let his eyes off her.

From the straight long hair to the pinkish cheeks, he felt intrigued to know the reason of why she was crying.

So, slowly coming out from his hiding place, he took a deep breath to calm himself down.

Now, standing next to this girl who no matter how much he tried, still caused his heart to race, Jimin bent down to her level and realized that she had not yet noticed his presence.

"Uh excuse me, are you ok?" He slowly asked, trying not stutter or seem weird.

His sudden question caused the girl to immediately jump up with shock as she did not anticipate to meet someone in a place so deep inside the woods.

Her hands quickly made their way to the sword that was hung by her waist as she pulled it out and swiftly placed it at Jimin's neck.

Jimin did not even get a moment to think or react as he now stood completely defenseless with eyes wide of shock.

"Whoa, wait! Why are you attacking me?" He asked as the girl looked at him straight in the eye, which honestly was quiet intimidating.

"Who are you?" She asked in a demanding voice. "Why are you here? Are you a part of that filthy pack of thieves who attack innocent people just to loot and kill them?"

Jimin gave an offended look as he backed away, "What did you just call me?" He asked in a high pitched voice. "How the heck do you think I am a thief? I just found you here and thought of asking if you were ok because people normally don't come here just to cry and shed tears and now you accuse me of being a thief!"

His hands up in the air while his voice filled with defense, Jimin scoffed in disbelief as he looked away. So much for thinking that this girl might have been a gentle and kind one.

The girl furrowed her eyebrows as she studied this man standing infront of her, whom to her surprise was not bothered about a sword kept on his neck but rather about the fact that she had accused him of being a thief.

"Men and their ego..."

She thought with a sigh as she brought her sword down and kept it in its scabbard.

"You didn't answer me stranger," She said in a voice that was a bit more cold than she expected. "Who are you and why are you here?"

Jimin finally looked back at this green eyed girl as he gave a small glare and huffed, "Don't you think you should be the one answering that question of yours to me? Who are you and why are you here?" He asked back putting special emphasis on the word 'you'.

The green eyed girl being Evie, looked at Jimin in a judging manner as the only words she could find to describe this stranger were 'irritating' and 'obnoxious'.

An annoyed sigh escaped her lips as she shook her head and once again sat down on the ground, closing her eyes and taking no notice of the obnoxious man who stood beside her.

Jimin looked down at Evie with an angry pout and deeply furrowed eyebrows.

"I had just asked if she was ok and in response I get a sword kept on my neck along with a rude reply!? Jeez. How much did I miss in these past five years?" He thought as he shook his head in disappointment.

A few minutes passed by in which Jimin did not move an inch but just kept observing this girl who had her eyes closed and was extremely quiet. "She is probably lost in some world of hers or either taking a nap."  An eye roll was what followed next but soon he heard the girl speak again,

"If you just going to stare and tire yourself why not sit down?"

Oops, said too soon aye Jimin?

Jimin flinched a bit at suddenly hearing Evie's voice. Hesitantly, he sat down on the ground and folded his legs.

Evie opened one eye and gave a chuckle as she noticed that this man was keeping a safe distance from her. She truly must have scared him!

Opening both her eyes she noticed that the rain had stopped while the smell of wet mud rose in the air. A smell of nature which she loved.

"I am Evie." She said as she turned to look at her side, deciding to break the silence and initiate a conversation which would hopefully take her mind off from thinking about Taehyung.

Jimin looked at this girl whom she had introduced as Evie and stared at her green eyes which fascinated him. "I am Jimin." He said as for a few minutes the two were extremely quiet but then they suddenly burst out laughing at seeing each other as Evie smiled.

"Hey man, sorry for scaring you like that. I guess you must now have a pretty bad impression of me." She said to which Jimin chuckled.

"Nah, its ok. And I am sorry for suddenly approaching you."

Evie shook her head as she gave a genuine smile, already starting to like this boy who seemed to be pretty friendly and cute which was ironic because just a few minutes back she thought of him as someone irritating and obnoxious.

She noticed how his silver hair had a bowl cut which added on to his cute eye smile and plump lips.

Jimin too looked at Evie as his heart continued to hammer in his chest.

Five years...

Five years had passed by of him not seeing the outside world and having no oneto talk to except that old wizard who was the reason of why he was still alive, breathing and existing.

Attaining someone's attention and them talking to him just like how Evie talked to him caused his heart to be at ease and for it to feel happy at finally having company again.

"Do you come here often?" He shyly asked as Evie nodded and looked around the tall trees and the birds that flew.

"Yes, I do. This place is like a second home to me because over here I can feel true peace and joy. People don't come here as they are busy in their own lives and so, when I saw you I was immediately shocked and guessed that you may be a thief who was here to rob me."

Jimin eyes sparkled as he heard Evie's reply, "Really? I too find this place to be really calming and peaceful as it always makes me feel content and happy. Its great to know that a person other than me too feels the same way!"

Evie gave a soft smile as she looked back at Jimin who now seemed to be quite more calm and relaxed around her. It made her feel good knowing that her quiet and reserved personality was not being hated or judged. People would normally call her a bore just because she didn't like being sociable and talkative.

Just because she wasn't as outgoing or fun like other people didn't mean that she was an emotionless person who could be ignored. She too wished to have someone to confide in and someone who wouldn't judge her on the basis of social standard.

And here, seeing this boy who sat beside her not minding her straightforward attitude, made her heart warm and content.

"So...why were you crying? Is there anything troubling you?" Jimin asked to which Evie once again felt that daunting feeling pass by her.

Evie looked up at Jimin as she gave a small sigh and then once again looked away.

"Heartbroken I guess, that's the reason I came here, to heal it. To heal my heart."

Evie's reply caused Jimin to fall silent as he looked at this girl sitting next to him. By the looks, she seemed to be a cool person who didn't give a shit about the happenings around her. But as its said, the first impression may not always be the truth as after hearing her words, he realized that even the toughest people have hidden thoughts and feelings buried deep inside their hearts.

Jimin pursed his lips for a while, thinking of what to say. "If you don't mind, you can share your problem with me. I may not be able to give a proper solution but it may help in lessening your grief."

Evie looked at Jimin and chuckled, "Trust me, there is nothing you or I can do about it. But if you insist then, I just like someone and that person does not like me. Yeah, that's it. Just another heart breaking love story."

Jimin looked Evie with an expression she could not comprehend. He was really surprised at how easily she just said it all, without breaking in the middle or tearing up which as far as he had noticed, people would do.

And yes, Evie did not show any emotions while answering Jimin's question but she could feel her throat tighten as she tried back to hold tears from falling.

"I am strong, I wont cry..."

She kept reminding herself as a light wind blew, causing her to shiver. Placing her hands on either sides of her arms, she rubbed them in order to gain some heat and not feel cold.

Jimin noticed this as he looked at Evie and then at the rain coat he was wearing which he fetched at the last moment before going out of the house.

He thought for a bit, after which he slipped his hands out of the rain coat, the cold wind immediately hitting his now bare arms as he slowly came near Evie and kept the coat on her shoulders.

Evie stopped shivering as she realized of what Jimin did. Taking the coat off she handed it back to him, "You keep it. Don't worry about me."

"Who said I am worried about you?" Jimin replied with a smile knowing that if he said otherwise, Evie would not accept the coat. "I just did that as an act of humanity."

A scoff escaped Evie's lips as she shook her head, "Seriously? That's the best you could come up with?"

"Uhh...yup. Why, was it bad?"

Jimin and Evie looked at each other for a few minutes in silence as both of them forgot about the cold wind and the coat that now lay on the ground, untouched.

Finally, Evie looked away as she closed eyes, trying to snap out of a particular feeling that was slowly forming in her heart. "You really are pretty oblivious sometimes, Jimin..."

Jimin scratched the back of his head as he gave an awkward smile.

Evie smiled back as she shook her head and got up.

"Where are you going?" Asked Jimin as he unfolded his legs and stood up after picking his rain coat from the ground.

"Home." Came the reply which caused a disappointed feeling to pass by Jimin's heart as he had just met someone and now that person was leaving. But with a sigh he nodded his head and handed the coat back to Evie.

"My house is just nearby so I will reach home faster than you and so, you need this coat more than me." He said as he kept his hands in his trouser pockets after running a hand through his hair.

Evie felt her heart warm on receiving this amount of care from a person she had just met. "Thanks Jimin. I hope we meet again and I guess we will as I will be returning your coat."

Jimin smiled as his eyes formed crescents, "Sure, my pleasure."

And with that, Evie turned around and started walking away as she wore the coat which she noticed had a vanilla scent to it.

"EVIE!" She suddenly heard her name being called as Evie looked back to see Jimin running towards her.

Panting, Jimin looked at her and with a smile said, "You told me that you were sad as the person you love does not love you back but have you tried confessing your feelings to him? How can you be so sure that he does not love you?"

"Because I know that his heart now belongs to someone else. He likes her and its really evident and noticeable."

Jimin clicked his tongue as he shook his head, "You may be wrong. I am telling you, just do it! Just confess your feelings."

Nervousness took over her just at the thought of confessing to the Prince Taehyung himself and the catch was that Jimin did not know that the person Evie liked was a Prince and the person the Prince liked was his childhood friend, Aera.

Evie just gave a halfhearted smile, "I will try." Was the only response after which she walked away.
