Prologue

"We shall send her due morning."

The voice seeped through the walls, Annabeth's blood turning to ice with it.

They hadn't been lying... they were going to send their heir away, their little, blonde heir. She didn't want to go though, she didn't want to leave her papa, her mama. What if she died? She had no siblings, she had no one else.

"M'lady." A servant swam in and Annabeth turned her head to face the little servant boy.

He examined her with his sharp green eyes, and she took a few uncomfortable paces back.

His eyes pried away from her and he instead looked at the floor, bowing his head. "S-sorry m'lady." he squeaked, "Just looking at you before you go on your mission..."

"Oh..." Annabeth nodded her head. "Thank you, uhm..."

"You don't need to know my name." he said quietly, "Servants do not have a name therefore you do not need to know it..."

"Then how about I give you a name?" Annabeth asked, grabbing a piece of coral.

'I, Annabeth Chase, hereby name the male merservant with the piercing green eyes, Perseus.' she wrote out, checking her spelling. She was only four, but she already knew a lot of things. Math, writing, reading (her favorite hobby), and many more.

She handed the coral back to the newly named 'Perseus,' who took it with shaking hands.

"T-thank you, m'lady." he stammered, staring at the words, eyes wide as if it was a letter from the gods themselves.

"Can we please cut the m'lady stuff?" Annabeth asked. "I'm not like momma and pappa. I don't mind being called by my name!" she smiled, a small giggle escaping her lips. She held out her hand, "Annabeth Chase."

"Perseus." he took her hand, shaking it. "I-I wish you luck on the mission, m'l--"

"Perseus." Annabeth chided.

"Annabeth." he corrected, and for once, he allowed himself a smile. It was tiny, it was microscopic, but it was a smile.

"I'll be back." Annabeth said, "Promise me you'll welcome me with open arms and a feast?"

"I promise to do more than that, A-Annabeth." he stumbled over her name, like he still couldn't believe he could say it.

Annabeth drew in a breath, making her back straighter. "Thank you, my dear Perseus."

"That name's too formal for a slave." he muttered, avoiding eye contact. "Do you still wish to give it to me?"

"I do." Annabeth said, "Do you like it?"

"I do." Perseus nodded his head.

After awhile of silence Annabeth drew up a breath and swam over to her bed, sitting down lightly on it. "I-I should pack." she said quietly.

"You will be given human items, I heard." Perseus stated. "But I will keep your stuff safe and clean, your majesty."

"Perseus, your doing it again!"

The little merchild raised his hands in surrender. "Very sorry, Annabeth."

He looked down at a necklace he wore around his neck. It was a single, light blue clam shell strung onto thread from the mortal world. Leather, they had called it.

"Each year you are there, add a bead." Perseus said quietly, lowering the necklace atop her shoulders.

Annabeth's fingers moved around the leather on her neck. She nodded, "I will, thank you." she felt her own lip quiver, tears building up in her eyes.

"Don't cry." Perseus swam forwards, wiping the tears away. "A princess can not cry."

"I-I know." Annabeth stammered, her head dropping to look at the ground.

"Royalty, even a princess as young as you, as duties to her people." Perseus said, "Royalty is ready to sacrifice anything for their people, even if it means moving away from them."

"I know." Annabeth wrapped her arms around Perseus, sobbing into his bare chest.

Perseus gulped, hoping the guards wouldn't come, but soon he returned the hug, patting her on the back and whispering over and over, "It's going to be okay."

WHOO! This is f*cking FUN to write! So yeah that was my sh*tty prologue!

Also, explanations that I cannot fit into the book (maybe)

*Perseus has a bare chest because mermen don't wear shirts, and neither do merboys.

((you might get this one)) *Annabeth is the heir to the siren throne, but she has to complete a mission before becoming queen and she has to leave her home for the mission.

*In this book sirens and mermaids/mermen etc etc are the same, but there's different levels of threat. There's the top threat, the actual sirens that you know, kill, lure sailors, etc etc all that stuff. Then below them there are, I guess, 'breeds' of different kinds of sirens, some have no magic power in their singing at all, some have mild, and some are so powerful they can decide on how much of a threat their singing is, if not at all.

*I think that's about it

If you need any other explaining feel free to ask :3 and I know they seem a bit mature for 4 year olds but I mean, Perseus grew up as a slave merboy for the royal family, so he had to learn to mature so he could serve them in the best way possible. Then Annabeth, weell she's Annabeth of a royal family, what you expect? XD

Anyway to anyone reading this: Thank you for giving this book a quick read even if you think it's crappy xD.

IDON'TOWNTHECHARACTERSDON'TSUEME!

*That drawing that is on the cover I did not draw, but I did modify.

Also special thanks to mah Big Sis, @Percy_BlackAdder

Why you may ask? Parts of this book were semi-inspired by her AMAZING book, Mutiny Captain. Go check it out! :3 (and all her other books because, who am I kidding, she's a better writer than me XD) Also because she helped me out with the editting! Thanks Perc <3
