Chapter 5~ The Servant Girl
"You can't kill me, you don't want to kill anyone after Castellan."
"I'll kill you if it means I can return home!"
"But do you really want to go home, Annabeth? You've been away for so long... face the truth already you stupid girl, there is no home for you to return to. You don't belong there anymore."
"I DO TOO!"
"No you don't... you've lived as a mortal nearly your whole life. You can't go back there, and you know it."
Annabeth woke up in a cold sweat, shivers running down her spine.
She belonged home, she did! She was going to go back there, she was going to become the siren queen, and she was going to see her parents again.
"M'lady?" Annabeth jerked her head to the door.
"Hang on, I need to get dressed!" she yelled, climbing out of bed, nearly stumbling. She threw on the first dress she spotted-- a cream colored one.
She swung the door open, not bothering with her hair or anything.
Percy blinked, staring at her.
"What?" she demanded.
"Annabeth... why are you wearing a servant's dress?"
"What do you mean why am I--" she looked down, her eyes visibly bulging. The dress wasn't cream, it was stained white! The bottom wasn't some fancy design, it was actually ripped!
"But, you look outstanding in a servant's outfit." Percy shrugged, "Can't lie."
"Maybe I should be a servant for a day." Annabeth laughed, "Think anyone would recognize me?"
"Considering they only know the princess has blonde hair and white skin, probably not. Just gotta turn that blonde into dirty blonde."
"How?"
"Maybe we should call Piper for that..."
When Piper was done the girl in the mirror was unrecognizable, besides the storm grey eyes.
Her hair was a dark brown with stormy eyes, face and clothes dotted with dirt and grime.
"You really deserve your position." Annabeth muttered, leaning in to stare in the mirror.
"Why thank you, Belle."
"Belle?"
"Annabelle, Belle." Piper explained patiently. She would've used Annabeth's real name, but... too risky. She might pick up.
"Beth." Annabeth suggested, "Belle is too obvious, no matter how dull the king and queen are, someone else is bound to figure it out."
"Ah." Piper nodded, "But why Beth?"
Oh I know exactly why, princess. I can't believe you're so trustworthy, someone like you.
"Oh um..."
You suggested part of your real name and you don't even have an excuse?
I swear Ghost is better at faking an identity, and the only mood he can act is depressed.
"Just... a name of one of my... old pets?"
Old pets. Oi.
Percy raised an eyebrow and we exchanged confused glances before nodding.
"Right, sorry I pried... Beth." Piper said.
Annabeth nodded her head, "That's fine, now on to work!"
"Right, first and foremost we serve the queen, king, and their lovely daughter."Piper said, "Who just happens to be out in town with a friend."
"One less person to serve." Annabeth nodded. "I'm ready!"
Percy and Piper led the 'new servant' to the kitchen, showing her everything to do, telling her what not to do, and slapping her arm when she reached for some food.
"Servants get fed their own meals." Piper said, "Never eat food meant to be put on the royal table."
"Not even left overs?" Annabeth whined.
"Not even left overs."
"What happens if..."
"You get whipped and beaten by the king himself." Percy interrupted. "Experienced it myself when I was new here..."
"Nearly everyone does." Piper agreed.
Except for me, because I'm boss, and I'm actually smart.
"That's why you didn't want to accept that food..." Annabeth said.
"Yeah." Percy nodded, "Come on."
"Percy, can you show Beth the ropes, I've got to get to my own chores." Piper said.
"Sure Pipes." he guided Annabeth around, showing her everything else.
Piper looked around, making sure no one saw her. She moved into the servant's quarters, walking around the dusty room. Torn blankets, scraps of food, it's what they were forced to live in. Oh the day she could hold the king and queen's heads in her own hands... that would be the day she'd be proud to die.
She ran her fingers over the wall, looking for the imperfection.
Gotcha.
She pried open the old door, hearing the creaking and groaning. She huffed, stepping into the corridors, only to get a face full of cobwebs.
She coughed, brushing them off of her. Stupid spiders, couldn't they live somewhere else?
Relax, Piper. she told herself, Mission first, petty complaints later.
With that she walked through the passage and out of the castle.
"Stan aside!" Piper yelled, looking up at the girl above her. "I wish to speak to the Sisters of the Sea."
"An' who be askin'?"
"Piper Mclean, Jackson's right-hand woman and second in command of The Stormy Chaser."
"Climb aboard, make it fast." the girl snapped and Piper did so, boarding their ship.
"Ahh, Mclean, didn't expect to see you here again." the voice came sharp, obviously masking a tone of disgust.
"Shut up, Hylla. I need a favor." Piper snapped.
"Oh?" she raised an eyebrow, "And what would you want from my sister and I?"
"Reyna." Piper said, "I need Reyna."
The other sister looked at her, finally speaking, "Why would you want me?"
"My captain has formed a plan." Piper informed them, "To succeed further we need your help, Reyna."
"Why would I do something to help that Jackson?" Reyna asked, "He destroyed our home, made my sister and I live on the streets--"
"And that got you where you are now." Piper sighed, "Will you help, or will you run?"
"Reyna, please think this through."
Reyna glanced over at her older sister, meeting her pleading eyes with cold ones.
"I have, Hylla. I will do this, I will assist them."
"There is one thing, Reyna." Piper said.
"Mclean?" she raised an eyebrow.
"You must play the part of a servant girl."
----
"Captain Jackson, your orders?"
"I have none."
"Wait, what?"
Jackson sighed, looking up at his crew. "I saw her, talked to her, that is all I desired. Carry out the plans I have set, I do not have fresh instructions, I'm afraid."
"Captain, why was it so important for you to see her?" Levesque asked.
"I thought I made that very clear." Jackson said. "With my orders, the task I gave you all... I love her. I truly do."
"And if she kills you?"
"Then I die at the hands of the woman I love," he got to his feet, "and I'm just fine with that."
"When did you become so weak?" Grace suddenly snarled, getting to his feet.
Jackson raised an eyebrow, "Weak?"
"Yes, weak!" Grace snapped, "The captain I knew would never be fine with dying."
"The captain you knew is standing in front of you." Jackson said simply. "It is a matter of who kills me. Not when, not how... but who."
Grace's eye twitched, "I have become a servant boy at your command, someone who must wait on those... petty royals hand and foot."
"What an accomplishment for scum like you." Jackson spit, "If it was not for me you'd either be dead or starving right now."
"GO BURN IN HADES!"
"ONLY IF I CAN TAKE YOU WITH ME."
"BOYS!" Mclean stepped between them, "We're all pretty here, alright?"
"Actually I'm more better looking than the captain..." Grace muttered.
"Grace, go kiss a brick." Mclean snapped.
"Wha--?"
"Go. Kiss. A brick."
She turned to the captain, "Are you sure you have no new orders?"
"I am sure."
"Where's the captain that was happy we had caught her in our trap?"Ghost asked.
"As I told Grace, he is in front of you." Jackson said, "Almost all of you have met her, you know what she's like. It should come as no surprise that I wished to trap her, only to speak to her."
"She is pretty nice..." Mclean admitted. "Great spirit, loving attitude."
That's my Annabeth...
