Chapter 2~ The Servant
"Miss Annabelle, meet the new addition to our staff, Percy."
Annabeth turned her head. That name sounded familiar...
Perseus!?
Percy bowed his head. "M'lady."
No, it wasn't Perseus, it wasn't her Perseus. The eyes were a different shade of green, and his hair was darker, no... it wasn't her Perseus.
Annabeth cleared her throat. "Make sure the pillows are fluffed, the meals are hot, and I like my clothes dried in sunlight all day to give it that nature smell."
"Yes, m'lady." he said, keeping his head bowed.
"You are dismissed."
Days passed, and Annabeth began calling the servant to her room more often, sometimes to judge what dress to wear, sometimes just to have someone to speak her mind to, who wouldn't speak back. Ordering him around soon became her favorite hobby, and he never responded with more than three words. Usually.
"Percy, fetch my comb!" Annabeth ordered, running her fingers through her hair.
"Yes, M'lady." he nodded, walking off.
Annabeth stared at her reflection. Her blonde hair, her storm grey eyes... those features belonged to a siren, not to a mortal girl. Twelve years she had been up in the dreaded world, away from her family, almost thirteen.
That reminded her...
Annabeth gently lifted her necklace off, placing it down in front of her. She took a small, blue bead out from her dresser. She undid the leather, letting the bead fall into place.
She retied the leather. After all these years the necklace still fit, and it hadn't broken, not once. That dork, Annabeth still wondered where he had gotten it from. Maybe it was a gift from a relative and he had passed it to her.
"M'lady." Percy came back, handing her the comb.
"What? Oh, I-- thank you." she took the comb, brushing it through her hair, removing the tangles.
Percy walked up to her and gently grabbed the necklace, putting it around her neck. He nodded with satisfaction, staring at the mirror.
Annabeth had to admit, he was semi-cute, and he had a fair resemblance to Perseus, but those eyes and that hair ruined it.
Besides, he couldn't have turned mortal, her parents would simply not allow such nonsense. A servant boy earning the right to be bewitched by one of the most powerful spells known to sirens? No, that was too crazy, too farfetched.
Then again, sirens were thought to be an impossible possibility, so maybe...
'Shut up Annabeth!' she scolded herself. Perseus was back at the kingdom, waiting with open arms and a feast. Coincidence that Perseus and Percy look alike, coincidence they share a resemblance in names. Annabeth had named Perseus, not Percy.
"Uh, servant boy?" Annabeth asked and he nodded his head to show he was listening, but he kept it aimed at the ground. "Look at me."
He shook his head.
"I said, look at me." she pushed her finger under his chin, making him look at her.
Percy gulped, averting his eyes so he didn't have to look Annabeth right in hers.
"That's not looking at me, look at me in my eyes." she got to her feet, holding his head and making him look directly into her eyes.
"M'lady." he said quietly.
"Percy." she said. Still, after all these years, she hated being called 'm'lady' or 'Your majesty,' gods, she likes the name she was given so she wanted to be called it, what's so wrong about that?
"Can you call me Annabet-- Annabelle?" stupid undercover name...
"A-Annie." he stammered. "Annie."
Annabeth tilted her head, "Annie? You wanna call me Annie?"
He nodded his head.
"Very well." she removed her finger from under his chin. "You can call me Annie." she smiled. Yep, this wasn't her Perseus from thirteen years ago.
"Annie?" he said quietly and she blinked. "What's that?" he pointed to a list.
Her Stormy Chase list.
She cleared her throat and grabbed it, "A list of the members in The Stormy Chase." she explained. "See? There's Ghost, Di Angelo, Levesque, Jackson, Castellan..." she really hoped he didn't see the faint blood line across Luke's name.
Percy did in fact see the blood, he just didn't wanna point it out.
He looked at the list, his eyes falling upon the name Jackson.
He swallowed. Jackson, King of the seas... no one knew his first name, they didn't even know if Jackson was his real name or not... there were theories, yes...
"Percy?" Annabeth snapped her fingers in front of his face.
"Sorry, what?" he looked at her then immediately looked away. Damnit! He had said more than just 'm'lady.' Stupid stupid stupid!
"You okay?"
'Did she really just ask me that? Servants aren't supposed to have opinions though...'
"I..." Percy clamped his mouth shut, nodding his head.
"Percy?"
Percy blinked.
"Forgot all that servant stuff that you know, okay?" Annabeth said, "Please, Im not like the other royals. I don't mind my servers having opinions, in fact I think servants with their own minds and body are... really amazing."
Percy tilted his head. Annabeth really was unique.
"I should get going, I got lunch with my parents and some guy named Jack."
Percy's eyes widened and he grabbed the parchment with the names on it.
"What?"
Percy pointed to Jackson.
He covered up son leaving just Jack.
"I know." Annabeth said, "Don't worry, I've got a bunch of weapons ready in case anything goes wrong. You could... come with?"
Percy shook his head. He had other duties to attend to.
"Goodbye, Percy." Annabeth walked out of the room, leaving Percy to his own thoughts.
---
"Any hobbies, Mr. Jack?" Annabeth questioned, swirling the drink in her glass.
"I enjoy sailing, very much so." Jack said, adjusting the eyepatch over his eye.
"Ah, are you captain of any crew?"
"Funny you should ask, Annabelle." he said, "I am indeed Captain of a crew, we call ourself the Chasers."
"Why is that?"
"We're all chasing different dreams, but we've come together to help each and everyone get what they wished for."
"That sounds wonderful!" Annabeth's 'mom' exclaimed, smiling. "Doesn't it, Annabelle?"
"Very." Annabeth slowly took a bite of her bread. That had to be Jackson... had to.
"Jack and his crew will be staying with us for a few weeks." Annabeth's father announced. "Their ship broke down, and while it's being fixed they'll stay here."
"Why would you invite--"
The queen cleared her throat, "Generosity, sweetie."
'Oh I get it.' Annabeth thought, 'Jack and his crew are paying them, greedy little liars...'
But despite her burning hatred for the foster family, she simply smiled, nodding her head. "You should do more generosity, mother." she said.
If that bitch wanted to pretend to be the happy go-lucky perfect queen she wants, then Annabeth gonna have some fun.
"Maybe you should invite all the guests to stay here." Annabeth said, smiling sweetly.
The queen visibly clenched her teeth. "Yeah... maybe." she mumbled.
"At least, the ones who dislike and or can't afford to stay at an inn."
"Sure..." her eye twitched.
Percy came into the room, bearing new drinks. He nodded to Annabeth before serving the king and queen.
Jack turned his head to the boy, his eye narrowing into a slit.
"I.. uh..." Percy's hands on the tray started shaking and he just bowed, exiting the room.
"Must you scare the servants?" Annabeth asked, rolling her eyes.
"My dear, if you do not keep fear you keep no reign at all." Jack smirked.
"But the servants--"
"Dear." the queen said firmly. "He is correct, if we treat our servants with respect we might as well be treating them like one of our own."
Bitches.
"Oh, yes. Yes I understand."
Understand you have some duties to take of in hęll...
"Anyway." Annabeth pursed her lips, "How did you come in contact with Mr.... Jack."
Mr. Jackåss.
"Oh..." my mother cleared her throat. "Well you see, we've actually been in contact with him for... a few years."
Annabeth raised an eyebrow. She didn't like that look on her mother's face... well to be fair she didn't like her 'mother' at all, but that's beside the point.
The king put down his fork, sighing. "Annabelle my dear, you know we found you when you were four years old, correct?"
Annabeth nodded.
"Jack came a day after, and we fostered him for awhile before he set off on his own."
"But." the queen cut in, "After seeing you two together, playing, both of you around the same age..."
"We said if we couldn't find you a groom before the age of seventeen that we would give Jack your hand in marriage."
Fûck this!
Annabeth got to her feet, staring at her parents, shaking her head. "No." she said, "Never, you will not give me away to some stranger, if I don't say 'I do' it's not official, I'd rather die than marry him!" she swiped her food off of the table, scattering it over the floor before storming off.
She was almost 17, almost...
Annabeth threw herself onto the bed, sobbing into the sheets. She didn't wanna marry, she didn't wanna have to marry someone she knew she'd have to leave, she didn't want to make a family on earth. What if her child came out a full human? She'd have to leave her kid and her husband behind when she went back, and she wouldn't be able to tell them why... her child would grow up thinking that their own mother hated them...
No child deserved that, not even a mortal child. Not knowing where their parent was all their life... or even who they were, for that fact.
"You are more fortunate than other royalty, m'la-- Annie." a voice said quietly.
Annabeth looked up, finding herself staring into the dark sea green eyes of a servant boy.
Percy looked down at her, a small smile on his face. "Some are given away when they are fourteen, maybe even twelve. But you got to live your life, you weren't bound by an arranged marriage."
"Technically I was." Annabeth muttered. "I just didn't know it."
Percy sat down next to her, pulling her into a hug. "You'll be fine, it's not like he'd kill you or anything."
"How can you be so sure?"
"I just can. As cruel as Jackson may be, he wouldn't harm a lady, he wouldn't harm his bride."
"I hope you're right about that." Annabeth said, pulling away a bit.
Percy pressed their foreheads together, smiling. "A servant knows what they are talking about, usually."
"You're more talkative this time."
"Yeah, well." he shrugged, "I get permission and I become as talkative as a fly."
"But flies buzz, and annoy."
"Exactly." he grinned, "Now, no more crying." he wiped away her remaining tears. "A princess's duty is to her people, they must almost put their subjects first, themselves second."
That sounds really familiar...
Annabeth nodded, "I know... but it's a lot harder than it looks."
"I bet it is."
Percy cleared his throat, getting to his feet. "Until I serve you again, Miss. Annabelle." he bowed before exiting the room, leaving Annabeth to her own thoughts.
Annabeth sighed. She knew her duties, she knew her jobs, but marrying into a life she did not like...
she knew deep in her heart, she could never do that, and she had to get out of it.
--
"Captain?"
"The trap is set." Jackson peered out the window. "She suspects nothing. I must thank you all for your assistance."
"Of course."
"Has Castellan's body been properly discarded?"
"Aye sir, buried with the utmost respect."
Jackson nodded his head. "Very good."
Mclean entered the room, nodding to the Captain. "You are positive this plan will work?"
"We were met with claws, of course it will work." Jackson scowled. "If it does not, everything we've worked for for the past thirteen years would have been worthless."
His hand creeped to his sword, which he then drew.
Jackson stared down at his own reflection, a frown of disatisfaction upon his face. "Annabeth Chase, consider yourself trapped."
OKAY OKAY OKAY.
I was almost gonna quit writing this because I've been reading Percico fanfics lately and they literally make Annabeth look like the devil.
Seriously.
Soo I'm back to despising Percabeth but this story just has the neatest plotline I have to keep writing it.
ANYWAY
If you noticed the underlined words throughout the chapter, YOU WIN A COOKIE!
There is 1 Annabeth.
There is 1 thirteen.
There's your hint to what's going on, you have to figure it out for yourself. Why did I underline those certain words when they're mentioned constantly throughout the book? You have to read the context around it my little duckies :3
I might delete the hints though, because one of them makes it painfully obvious to the FALSE truth, a red herring, if you will. Well, it's semi-true if you get it right but... meh. You know.
I'm just gonna shut up.
Vote, comment, like ((wait vote and like are the same thing on here O-o)), share, etc etc, have fun have a good day I'm going to keep suffering with braces.
Bai^^

P.S.
If you think Percy is Jackson and Jack is really Jackson then how can they be in the same room at the same time? Post your answers in the comments ^_^
