Chapter Thirty: Please Shut Up

"What are you two doing here?!" he suddenly asked, pulling me behind him so he would cover my body.

Sweetheart, let me answer that for you... it's their fucking house!

"I'm at that point where I don't even know what question I should ask first," his mother spoke, "I thought I would come home and surprise my two sons with a good homemade breakfast, not this."

Okay, I understand where this woman was coming from. She had every right to be upset because first of all, her oldest son wasn't here and then I came in before they could even see their other child.

To be fair I'm in a proper relationship now with Gray. It's not like they actually believed that he would hold off before marriage because let me tell you, that's just a faraway dream for them and I don't even know when he lost his virginity. That conversation never really came up.

Wait, I'm drifting off topic again.

She rubbed her temples before sitting by the kitchen counter, "Honey, you take over."

His father switched his gaze from his wife, to Gray, and then to me. Scratching his head, I could almost see the gears in his head turning as he tried to think of the best approach for this situation. Clearing her throat, he eyed me before he started to say, "How are you, Clara?"

"I'm good sir," I quipped, peeking from Gray's towering figure. He nodded in approval before he noticed the incredulous look that his wife was giving him. He shrugged in response as he smiled sheepishly, hoping that it would calm her down.

Now I knew where Gray gets his quirks.

"Please get dressed properly first," Mrs. Martyn sighed, waving us off. Gray didn't waste another second as reached behind him and took my hand, pulling me with him out of the room.

You know, the scene I had mind was one of those corny morning-after breakfast where I will wear nothing but his and shirt while he couldn't get his hands off me – finding me absolutely irresistible.

But then again, I'm irresistible enough as I am.

Once we reached his bedroom, he picked up my dress on the floor for me as he went to scout for my shoes, "Sorry you had to be part of that."

"I'm used to walking into situations that I'm not supposed to," I muttered, entering his walk-in closet to get a bit of privacy as I changed into the clothes I was wearing last night, "But now I think I should go home."

"Yeah," he agreed, putting on a clean shirt after pulling on a pair of jeans, "I'll drive you."

Going out, I shook my head, "Your mom would explode if you step a foot out of this house."

And what I have failed to mention before was Gray's mom was extremely strict with her boys. She should be, considering their track record of mischief. Their father on the other hand was as chill as can be, always muttering something about letting them enjoy their youth or something.

"I don't care," he mumbled as he opened his bedroom door for me, "Then how will you get home?"

"Uber?" I suggested, taking out my phone from my clutch, "I'm a master of sneaking out of this house."

Although hesitant, he agreed to my words as we quietly went down the stairs, pausing at each step to check if they could hear us. Instead of making our way back to the kitchen, we took a detour to the front door and Gray slowly clicked it open, making sure that it didn't produce any sound.

Just before I could slip out, he lightly grabbed my shoulder, making me stop to look at him, "Goodbye kiss?"

Letting out a low snicker, I pressed my lips onto his cheek before shooting him a wink just when we heard his mother, "Gray, are you done yet?!"

"Bye," I mouthed before walking away from his house.

Before actually going on to order a ride, I decided to first visit that nearby 7-11 partly because I'm freaking hungry. My plan to cook up a nice breakfast for Gray and I flew out of the window before I could think of how to do it.

Walking through the glass doors, the bored looking worker by the cashier greeted me with a lazy look and I raised a brow just as I walked away from him.

Glad he was having a good day then.

A sandwich should suffice for now, I could always whip something up at home. As I was about to open one of the chillers to grab myself a drink, someone beat me to it. Looking up, I expected another weirdo being melodramatic about Arizona iced tea but imagine my shock when I saw that it was Erin Matthews herself standing there.

When she realized that it was me, she gaped for a moment before her eyes went down to assess my current condition.

Yes, I'm wearing a freaking cocktail dress with my disheveled hair and smudged makeup. Even so, I'm still better looking than you.

Then suddenly, a new member of the group peeked from one of the shelves as he held up three bags of Lays, "Hey, are these enough?"

Squinting my eyes at him, I tried to figure out why he looked so familiar. Craning my neck to the side to get another angle, I then recognize him as the boy Gray has scuffle during that time at the party. Raising a brow, I held back a snort.

So this was the lamb's lap dog.

"You know, you can't avoid me forever," I muttered, reaching for the can of Arizona iced tea as I shuffled the sandwich in my hand, "If you want to say something then just blurt it out."

Because I don't know about you, but I already said everything I wanted when she tackled me back in her house.

Ah we're come so far.

"Erin, you're taking too damn," one of her friends, Kick, came marching down. From where I was standing, I could see Side's arms filled with a bunch of candy following right behind the feistier girl.

Oh great, the full circus is here.

They all paused when they saw me face to face with the lamb. Rolling my eyes, I closed the chiller door before walking past the three girls, making my way to the counter. They didn't bother to look away after I paid for my food so when I turned around, their gazes were still following my every move.

Okay, I know I'm gorgeous and all, but this was starting to get creepy.

"Kids, are you still not done?" entered Mrs. Matthew from outside and right behind her was Evan, grumbling incoherent words under his breath.

He looked lazily around the store before his eyebrow scrunched up in confusion at the amazed look his sister and her friends were sporting. When his eyes passed me, he quickly stiffened, doing a double take as he asked me a thousand questions with his gaze.

At least there was one person in here that I got along with.

Because we all know my current disposition with the lamb, Side and Kick weren't exactly my cup of tea, I don't know the tall dog over there, I have mixed emotions about Mrs. Matthews, and the guy by the counter looked like he was ready to stab us all with a breadstick.

"I'm going to wait outside..." he trailed off as he subtly gestured for me to follow him.

Giving them a sarcastic tight lipped smile, I walked out of the store and found myself right beside a confused Evan as he kept on opening and closing his mouth, trying to find the appropriate words.

Finally sighing in defeat, he spoke, "One question," he muttered as he pointed towards my whole body, "Why?"

"Dinner, vodka, Walmart, cupcakes, waffles, parents," I listed off before I saw his face morphed into an indescribable look.

Don't worry, the more I think about it, the more confused I become as well.

Oh yeah, you like me right? Well, I got a story to tell. You see, I went on a dinner date with my boyfriend, which I crushed your heart for, and we drank a lot of vodka, somehow ending up in Walmart because of my cupcake craving. We had sex after and when I walked into the kitchen the morning after, I saw his parents there while I was clad in nothing bus his shirt.

Did I mention that I wasn't able to eat some of their waffles so now I'm craving them yet I decided to escape because I don't want to know what will happened if I stayed there.

Now I'm not an insensitive fool to just blurt that out to him!

"Basically, I had a very strange night and a stressful morning," I explained vaguely, "So what's going on with you and rowdy crowd squad?"

"Erin and her friends wanted to go on a road trip-like thing to go look at colleges," he informed, "And I got dragged along."

"Well, since I woke up, there are too many events that happened," I muttered as I ran a hand through my hair, "And I'm pretty sure when I get home, I'll never hear the end of it from my mom."

He scrunched up his eyebrows in concern before pointing towards the white van, "Want a ride?"

"So you want me to sit in a car with the person my step-father was caught having an affair with, a lamb who was the reason why Gray and I started fighting in the first place plus her Side and Kick, and a dog that my boyfriend had an actual fight with?"

He shrugged before responding, "Beats walking and it's free."

I released a groan as I crossed my arms over my chest. He saw this and gave me a smile, "Don't worry, I'll be there."

"That doesn't really ignore the other five out of six of that car's passengers," I told him.

He rolled his eyes before offering a hand for me to take, "Come on, it looks like you already had enough for the day."

Well, he was right about that.

Cracking a grin, I took his hand as he pulled me to the van, opening the sliding door for me, "I think they're going to be in there for a while."

"I'm more excited for when they actually see you in here," he chuckled, taking a seat, "So, everything going good for you?"

Nodding, I leaned back, "Thank you, Evan."

"My mom's driving anyways," he mentioned, referring to the free car ride.

"No," I told him, "Thank you for not judging me on that night you saw me outside my house, for giving me your jacket when I sprained my ankle, for comforting me during that time I cried when I visited your home, for forgiving me when I bullied Erin, for encouraging me to give closure when I broke it off with Gray, for going with me to Hallie's wedding, for dressing up in a ridiculous mascot for me, for being the one to see me when I was frustratingly confused last Friday."

This is one long list.

"For doing that karate chop on me to bring me back to reality," I said before turning to face, "And thank you for liking me when I thought I have completely given up."

He stared at me for a good while before looking down, scratching the back of his head as he murmured a very soft reply, "You're welcome."

"I feel like if I said to you that you're one of my best friends, you're going to moan about getting into the friendzone," I joked, "But if you ever leave me, I'm going to be really disappointed."

He did a quick glance before shaking his head, "I don't think I can even if I tried."

This guy deserves an angel, not an almost-devil like me.

"Just a question though," I muttered, "But, why did you like me?"

I admit that I'm amazing, but you can't just fall for someone in a snap like that. Plus, Evan wasn't like that. He looked beyond the usual physical beauty and even if you were nice to him, he still won't budge at times. He'll be kind to you but that was it.

"That night when we properly met..." he trailed off, "For once, I saw a girl who wasn't pretending to be decent or proper. There stood someone who declared that life is bullshit and she actually takes it on in a very unique way."

Perhaps that was what we had in common – we declared that life is bullshit.

The door in front opened and came in Mrs. Matthews herself as the rest of the crew hopped into the van. Kick released a loud groan when she saw me sitting there next to Evan before she swiftly avoided me by sitting at the row behind us.

Watch it, Kick, I'm wearing stilettos and they hurt whether I stomp or stab with them.

"Mom, can we drop off Clara at her house?" Evan asked as he closed the door after the last person went in.

His mother looked over her shoulder and glanced towards me before nodding, focusing her eyes back to the front, "Alright."

The drive was so agonizingly quiet. Even though I wanted to speak, I couldn't because of the heavy tension packed into this small vehicle. I wanted to ask Mrs. Matthews to turn on the radio but unfortunately, I couldn't pluck the nerve to do it because it was so compromising that it was painful.

When we rounded up towards the ever so glorious home, I shot a quick thank you to Mrs. Matthews before sliding the door open. Squeezing Evan's hand, I hopped down the vehicle before I gave him a small wave.

Just before I could walk away though, the lamb called my name, "Clara."

Soft and weak, just like the rest of her personality.

Turning around, I could see her exiting the van as she came up to me, "Can we talk tomorrow after school?"

Now this is different.

"I've got training after classes," I informed, tilting my head to the side, "For the whole week."

Wringing her hands in nervousness, she drew a quick breath before bravely declaring, "I'll wait."

That's the cliché line you tell the person you like, not the person you secretly want to disappear.

"Okay," I hummed, "Your brother has my number, just text me or something when you want to meet."

Not even waiting for her reply, I spun on my heel before continuing my way to the front door. Fishing for my keys inside my clutch, I quickly unlocked the door.

Going inside, I looked around before sneakily heading for the stairs, praying that I don't run into Will or mom.

When I realized that I managed to reach upstairs without anyone noticing, I made my way to my room, closing the door shut. I hope my mom just thinks that I'm still sleeping in bed right now because I got home late.

Then again, maybe seeing her fuss about it will become entertaining.

After taking a long shower and finally putting on some more comfortable clothes than that dress, I sat on my bed before reaching for my phone to message Gray.

----------------

Miss me peaches? Well, there weren't any updates last week so probably or probably not. Why did I not update? Mostly because I was upset at myself for being upset at you guys. I don't like being mad or disappointed at you guys so in the end, I just took it out on myself and decided that I should skip a week to cool down.

What did you guys do wrong? Nothing so don't you worry your pretty little minds.

Question: I'm going to create a chapter in Erin's POV but it's basically just rewriting a chapter. Which chapter or events in the book do you want to be seen in her POV?

Dedicated to RXY1ND for the cover!

From where I'm at, I'm so close to finishing this book so I'm praying to just plow through. Well that's it. I love you guys, don't forget to comment, vote, and follow. I shall see you all next chapter.
