He Has A Soft Side
We sat in Nuri's basement sitting in a circle. I nervously bite my nails causing Wesley to pat my hand gently before holding on to it tight. Lila sits with her head down as we wait for Nuri to come downstairs.
"So, have you been settling in well"? I ask looking towards a surprised Lila. She sends me a nervous smile.
"Yes thank you" she says before quickly putting her head down. She was very shy from the moment I met her. Suddenly my eye starts to throb painfully and I squeeze it shut waiting for the pain to run it's course.
"Hey are you okay piggy" Welsey asks taking notice of my shut eyes. I nod telling him not to worry. A few seconds later Nuri makes her way down the steps with a few drinks in hand.
"Sorry it took me so long. My mother was getting suspicious". Nuri passes me a bottle of water. The pain in my eye subsides for now.
"Well now that we are all here I think we can start. So Lila, I know you told me a little bit of why you're here but we need to know the full story so that we can help you" Wesley states looking at Lila with a serious expression.
She fidgets under his gaze. I instantly grab her hand giving it a tiny squeeze. "You don't have to be afraid, you're safe here" I say softly. I try and soothe her as best as I can.
Nuri slurps loudly on her watermelon flavored drink. I send her a look and she immediately closes the cap on her drink.
"Well.... I left my pack. After an attack was taken on my pack my parents told me to run with my little brother. We... were running when he"...
Lila holds back a sob and I rub a hand down her back. "He... was taken... by some pure blooded vampires. T-they destroyed everything.... I don't know if my parents are still alive...or my little brother".
It's quiet for a moment as we all take a second to recollect her words. "So... a bunch of vampires attacked your pack... but why"? I question looking towards Wesley.
"Vampires and Werewolves haven't been at war for years. Why would they suddenly attack a pack out of nowhere"? I questioned outloud trying to connect the dots.
"Vampires and Werewolves have been at war with each other since the beginning of time. A peace treaty was created so that both species could finally live in harmony. But just because the treaty was created doesn't mean everyone was on board" Wesley says deep in thought.
"But why would they attack Lila's pack? What exactly would they gain from it"? Nuri says finally speaking up .
"My pack wasn't the only one that was attacked. There were others as well but my father believed that we were ready to handle anything. So when the attack happened we were all shocked and ultimately thousands were killed". Lila says with a slight sniffle.
"Well then that changes everything. This seems alot bigger than I initially thought". Wesley folds his long arms, his hand still held mine tightly. I felt the slight tingles run down to my fingertips.
"It sounds like we have a war on our hands. And if that's the case... we are going to have to tell our parents" I say and Wesley immediately shakes his head no.
"We can't. At least not yet anyway, just until we have enough information. How would we look if we barged up to our parents claiming that another war is going to happen? Plus we have no proof". Wesley points out.
We all agree to keep quiet until we can find more information .Wesley slowly walks beside me as he walks me home. The night air was cold and frigid but with my small hand in his I felt my hand become warmer.
"Ya know I never would have thought you'd help just anyone" I say finally clearing the comfortable silence. He looks at me with a small grin.
"I guess being away for a year changes you" he says with a wide grin. I think back to that lonely year, and how I had desperately cried for days as my bestfriend had up and left. Those days were the toughest for me and it wasn't until I met Lauren and Nuri that I was able to finally feel like myself again.
"How was it... did you make any friends" I ask genuinely curious. His eyes cast a faraway look as he recalls the year he had left for boarding school.
"It was pretty boring. I focused alot on my training and was able to get close to one of my teachers". He suddenly stopped looking me in the eyes. He gently placed a hand on my chin keeping me from turning away.
"When were you going to tell me about your eye? Don't think I didn't notice how much you were in pain earlier" he grunted wrapping an arm around my waist. I gulped deeply at how close we were, I could make out the small beauty mark by his left eye. His lips we so close to mine that one push and our lips would connect.
"I... it's not a big deal... I just forgot to bring my eye drops with me" I whisper. He lightly pushes a stray blonde of my hair away from my face. Being this close to him reminds me of how he has grown up. No longer was he the sweet little boy that would chase me around the mansion.
He had grown up and he looked damn good. I couldn't deny the slight racing of my heart as he looked at me with those eyes. I never understood why he would stare at me most times. An unfamiliar feeling plagued my stomach.
We continued the walk home until we could finally see my house come into view. I was about to step away into the gates when I was pulled back roughly into his arms. "Go out with me tomorrow. You still owe me" he chuckles lightly tapping nose.
"Hmm I'll think about it. Goodnight Wes". I say pulling away from out of his arms. He sends me a small smile with a small wave.
"Goodnight piggy"
