Pele was on the run.

She had done some things. She had gotten into a fight, revealed what she could do. And now they were coming, and she couldn't stop them.  She was strong, stronger than most, but they could destroy her easily. She couldn't risk getting caught, not with everything that's at stake.

Her mother had always warned her to be careful, to never let anyone know what she could do. And now she had broken that rule, and she would pay the consequences. She already stood out enough, a fire demoness with a golden lioness for a familiar. She had named the pretty, giant lioness Ekhi, and she had always answered to it. She was large, though not as large as the giant panther she had passed one day, a young girl with orange hair and black eyes on the back of it. She had a crown of dark burgundy dahlia woven into her long, wavy hair, and she was very tan. 

Ekhi growled softly, and suddenly Pele realized that she was humming the same tune.  Drowsiness cascaded over Pele's eyes, making them feel heavy, as if weighed down by cement.  Her vision blurred, and she briefly saw Ekhi fall asleep, her sides rising and falling deeply.  Pele briefly touched her horns, tracing along the curved, rough part of her.  She did this often while she was tired, and it seemed to help wake her up.  This time, however, it failed, and Pele's body crashed to the ground, slumped over in deep slumber.

Wow, I did a lot of research for this.  Some of the specifics took forever, having to check and recheck, just to make sure they meant what I was told they did.  Totally worth it, though.
