(36) New World
Soleil
I watch as the sun rises over the sea, my mates breathing a steady beat against my ears. Damira lie asleep under the covers, blissfully unaware of my presence by the window. Turning away from the morning view, I smile down as Damira cuddles deeper in my pillow, almost sniffing it in delight. She's too cute for her own good.
Last night, I had barley slept, my mind wandering over everything. My bond missing the feel of Damira close. I was afraid if I slept to closely to Damira, I'd see all those images again. And I'm not to sure I'm ready for all that yet. I may be just being ignorant, but I can't ignore the ache in my chest.
Sighing softly, I fix the sheets over Damira, biting my lip. How I wish to kiss those lips of hers, the soft feel of them engraved with mine.
Everything will be fine.
My eye widen as Neoma's familiar voice and the familiar bond I share with her tugs at my mind. The wide smile now touching my ears. Neoma!
Glad you've missed me.
"Of course I have," I mutter, watching Damira's peaceful expression darken with a frown. She must be dreaming heavy. I smile sadly and curl her hair behind her ear, the heat of her skin so close. My soft touch caressed her mind, calming the dreams floating in her unconsciousness.
Your power is... strong.
"Apparently. Do you know what my abilities are, Neoma?" asking wouldn't hurt. However, Neoma sighs, confirming my doubts.
All I can tell you is, you pretty much can do whatever the blade can do. Which is hold a soul in limbo so it can never be reborn or die. That is what the blade can do, however, there seems to be more underneath that power in you, Soleil. The stars in your eyes confirm it.
My lips thin as I wander over her words. I just hope that whatever it is, it can save my future. My future... family. Yes, I can't deny it anymore. What I saw in Damira's future, might come true. And if I truly want that, I need to protect it. Her happiness is my happiness.
Your truly a King, Soleil. I smile at Neoma's awe, blushing slightly. It's true. You have grown into a powerful and beautiful young woman. Be proud of the growth, Soleil.
"Thank you," the words come out sincere, my heart swelling with pride. I must be proud. Because I have a wonderful mate who has brought the best out in me. And who I hope to have done the same to them.
Damira mumbles, sleep now disappearing. "Soleil...?" she murmurs, cracking her eyes open. I smile softly, sitting back a little for her to move. "What are you doing up?"
"It's morning, Mira. Time to get ready for our trip."
"Oh," with a loud and dramatic yawn, Damira stretches like a cat, eyeing me with a smirk. "You were watching me, you pervert." I swat her mischievous smile away, grinning.
"Noo, you'll have to prove it." Almost cackling in a face wicked laugh, she wiggles her fingers.
"Hohoho, maybe I'll have to.... tickle you!!!" before she could leap at me, I run to the door, poking my tongue out at her. She laughs, slipping from the bed. amusement deep in her crystal green eyes.
"You better get dressed, Mira!" I call as I open the door, ready to slip by. "Better not make the High Queen impatient!" I giggle as I hear her groan behind the now closed door, Damira stomping around the room.
As I turn to head down the hallway, my heart almost stops as I find the High Queen staring at me, the corner of her lips quirked up. "What an interesting pair you too are." she replies after a moment of silence. I nod slightly, still intimated by this powerful woman.
I can feel all her power gushing through her blood. Gulping down that feeling, I bow quickly to the High Queen, quietly excusing myself. Her galaxy like eyes on my back the whole time. That woman may hold my life in her hands. And who knows what she intends to do, whether she really admits it or not.
Few hours later ~
We stood outside the pack house, our small travel bags ready at our sides. Damira oddly silent and Selene staring off into space. I frown as Damira turns her glare towards Selene, trying to find the pattern. What happened while I prepared the pack in our absence?
"Luna!" the tug of my trousers drag me from my thoughts, a small pup staring at me with awe. I smile softly, gently picking the boy up and sitting him on my hip.
"Hi cutie, where's your mama?" he babbles off a little and then points towards the pack gardens.
"I want to say bye bye! And and not to worry about a thing! We are strong for you and Alpha." I coo softly, petting his hair. My heart warms at the sight of his adoring will.
"Okay cutie. I believe in you. Now why don't you find your mama now? Okay?" Gently placing him down, he runs off giggling. As his little figure runs by, my hands shake. I was so close to seeing into this little guys head... so close. Why hadn't his future and past come by as fast as Damira's? Am I slowly gaining control?
"Soleil?" Damira's voice pulls me from my thoughts, frowning down at me. "You okay, baby?" I nod slowly, hiding my shaking hands away.
"Yeah. Yeah, come we must be leaving now." I reply, walking towards Selene and the High Queen of Faery. I can feel Damira's confused emotion through our bond. It breaks me slightly to see her so concerned but, I can't have her worried all the time. I can't worry her.
The High Queen clears her throat. "Now, the King of Spring and his offspring will stay behind to keep the domes up while we are away." With the clap of her hand, the hairs on my arms rise up as the feeling of strong magic floats in the air.
The High Queen murmurs a few words and the world suddenly spins. Damira calls my name but it falls on deaf ears. All I could see is the large purple spiral floating behind the High Queen. She finds eye contact with me and grins wickedly.
"This is your first test, Soleil, Goddess of Stars and Dreams. You must be able to take in the portals power and make it to the other side without passing out."
"What if she fails?" Damira asks, hovering by my side. I smile gratefully, holding a hand to my star wound. The High Queen cocks her head to the side, thinking.
"Hmm, I haven't decided yet." I almost scowl at that but before I could say anything, she grabs me by the wrist, grinning. "Good luck!" with that, she pushes me inside, my figure spiraling out of control. I scream loudly, the black hole of nothingness stares at me with hatred.
I close my eyes, feeling sick, my lungs closing my airwaves. The feel of all this magic is so overbearing. Your suppose to get use to it, to take it in. Squeezing my eyes closed, I curl myself in a ball, controlling my breathing and focusing on the one thing. Damira. Her smiling face. Her joy. Everything about her. It seems to calm me as gravity takes it against me, falling down until the bright light blinds me.
With a painful thump, I face plant the ground. "Well done, Soleil. You've past your first test." Groaning, I turn my head up, blinking away the bright sunlight and finding Dia grinning down at me.
"You bitch," I mutter, getting to my knees. However as I come to Damira's side, I notice her widened gaze. Turning to find the amazement, I too stare in awe. Grassy hills for miles, large oak trees and bright blue skies. The warmth in the air feels so right.
The power I feel against the earth, just under my fingertips is humming with life. "Welcome, to the realm of Faery."
