(21) Preparations?
Soleil
The birds chirping outside the windows are annoying me. Grumbling, I turn over onto Damira's pillow, her earthly sent filling my senses. However, her warmth is missing. Opening one eye slowly, Damira's figure not present. Pouting, I sit up and find myself still in the hospital room. Where has Damira gone and why has she left me. Does she regret telling me about her feelings? Opening up?
"Ah good, your up." I turn to the voice, frowning. Baden walks in, head dug into a clipboard.
"What are you doing? Where is Damira?" Getting out of bed, I run my fingers through my hair. Baden hums and hands me the clipboard.
"Here. You're in charge of the preparations."
"Huh?" Taking the clipboard, my eyes scan the pages clipped there. Annual Meeting Ball. "What is this?" I ask, turning over the pages, frowning at the list of things printed on all 5 pages. Is this what I have to do?
"Yes. Now chop, chop. The Annual Meeting Ball is in a week and there are lots to do." Baden grabs me by the shoulders, pushing me out of the door and towards the main house. "Please make yourself presentable and head to the kitchens. The menus are the first thing to do." My mouth was moving but no sound came out as Baden continued shoving me up towards my room.
As soon as my door was close by, I shoved him off. "Baden! Stop! Wait a second!" I breathe out in flustration, eyeing Baden with disdain. He stands there, a brow raised.
"What, Soleil? You need to start working, like right now? Damira has already placed the list of guests and we have until the end of the week for you to call them." I roll my eyes.
"Why me? Why can't Damira do half of this?" I throw my hands up in exasperation. Baden bursts out into giggles. "What's so funny?"
"N-Nothing. It just that, do you really think Damira is fit for social communication? All she does is growl at people," I frown.
"She doesn't just growl at people," I mumble, crossing my arms. Baden sighed, rubbing his temple.
"It's just the way things are and plus Damira is sorting out protecting the Island while this Meeting is on. It's important we find out about our new enemies and what the next step is." I watch Baden lean against the wall, eyes strained with exhaustion. Didn't he sleep at all last night? Biting my lip, I nod.
"Fine I'll do this but god, all of this," I flip the pages. "Before the end of the week?" Baden gives me a half-smile.
"I believe in you." And with that, he turned and walked away. Groaning, I kick the wall and after hissing in pain.
"F*ck! That hurt!" I cry, hopping on one foot and cradling the other.
"I hope you didn't damage the wall, Luna." A deep chuckle interrupts my wailing and a young man walks up the stairs towards me. His dark hair wove into a bun upon his head and the 3 o'clock shave had me freezing on the spot. Who is he? Is he part of the pack?
I give him a small smile, eyeing him. I have never seen this man in my entire time being here. "Well, let's just hope the wall didn't damage my foot." The man before me grins, leaning against the railing.
"You seem to be fine, now." He says before assessing the fallen clipboard on the floor. Before I could reach down to grab it, he picks it up. "Here, this must be yours." I nod and take it out of his hands, fingers grazing his chilled hand.
He doesn't move for a second before moving away. "Well. I'll see you around, Luna." I watch his back as he retreats down the stairs, goosebumps rising. Is this man dangerous? Who is he? Maybe I'll ask Damira. He might be a warrior or something. Shrugging, I turn into my room forgetting the encounter and ready myself for a long day.
* a Few hours later*
"No, no! I said, put purple flowers by the entrance!" I cry in frustration, showing the flower boy where I wanted the flowers. He nodded, nervous sweat on his brow. Huffing, I wave him away. "Take a break," I mumble, eyeing the gigantic ballroom. When I asked one of the mothers where we hold balls, I didn't expect an actual ballroom to exist on the island.
I rub my chest, the slight ache silently pounding. I have not seen Damira all day and I think it's effecting me. When my mind wanders, it always wonders to Damira, feeling quite lonely. I wonder what she is doing and if she's okay. Jasmine visited me during lunch and mentioned mind link but since I'm more human than wolf, the mind link might not work for me.
"Luna Soul?" a small voice interrupts my thoughts. I turn to Clara, frowning down at her tear-stained face.
"Hi baby," I coo, picking her up in my arms. "What's the matter, hmm?" Clara whimpers, burying her face into my neck.
"Mommy and daddy said I couldn't play with Lilly and Kion..." I play with her bouncy hair, trying to sooth her rapid cries.
"Hmm? Can you tell me why your mommy and daddy might have said that?" I ask gently. Clara shakes her head.
"Mommy said it's almost dinner time but I asked if I could play with them before dinner. But they s-said no..." I hush her gently, rocking side by side.
"Well maybe your mommy and daddy are getting your siblings some food. Babies don't eat food like us," Clara looks up at me with wide eyes.
"They don't?" I shake my head.
"No baby. Your brother and sister drink special mommy milk to make them big and strong. Just like you," I bop Clara on the nose and she lets out a small giggle.
"Okay! I beelive you!" She lisps, grinning widely. I chuckle softly and kisses her temple.
"Why don't you go and help your mommy and daddy with your little siblings? Hmm?" I plop her down on the ground, her pout slipping.
"But I can't play with them..." She mumbles. Okay this kid is the cutest thing ever.
"Maybe when they finish their dinner. But your mommy and daddy might need some help. Your the big sister now, your brother and sister will look up to you." I can't imagine Clara bossing the two about.
"Okay!" With that she runs off, giggling. I shake my head, a small smile on my lips. Why do kids have more energy than us? Chuckling I decide to head up and find Damira.
Maybe she is back from her duties. Humming softly, I wave goodbye to the workers and follow the familar hall's towards the Alphas domain.
When her door comes into view, I knock softly. "Damira? You here?" No reply came from the one woman I call mate. Frowning I try the doornob and find it unlocked.
Huh. Okay. Walking in the pink I had found earlier was changed to a dark blue and white. She's had a change of heart, I see. I grin as I find no stuff teddies. She even got rid of her teddies. Closing the door behind me, I jump on her super comfy bed, curling into her pillows.
Damiras earthly smell invading my senses. Hmm, how I miss her. Closing my eyes, I start to drift off, my mates sent driving me to dream Land. "Come home soon, Damira," I mumble.
