(13) Mixed Feelings
Damira
After a few paper cuts and angry growls, my work for the day was finally done. My brother sat in front of me, his brows furrowed in concentration. The pen in his hand nearly at breaking point. After missing a few years of pack work, Baden seems to be struggling a bit. But, he knows how to get it done in the end.
Leaning back in my chair, thoughts scatter towards the human pacing around the packhouse. She's with Jasmine, Jacks's mate, and a few other she-wolves. Jealously tinges my heart at the thought of her getting close to others. I feel guilty, but its the way it has to be. She will weaken me and my pack. My mother taught me that. My father... is what my father is.
I turn to the window and frown at a couple of wolves carrying tools and materials. "Hey, Baden, why are there a bunch of wolves taking tools and materials into town? I didn't see a report for repairs."
His murmured reply was so quiet, I barely heard it. "Luna King is repairing the temple for Howling Island to use once again." The small figure shouting orders in between the group of wolves caught my attention. Soliel, the little human who is stubborn as a bull is smiling and direction everyone towards the temple.
"I didn't authorize this!" I bellow, standing up and storming towards the door. I turn to Baden. "Come on Baden!" Without waiting for him, I storm through the packhouse. I don't remember agreeing to this. To let this human take charge and do something that I didn't agree upon. This is unacceptable. She isn't the leader. She isn't a wolf. She is human! Weak and naive.
I see Jack arguing with his mate until Jasmine slaps him across the face. I cringe internally at the mark appearing on his cheek. Jasmine is a tough woman, I know for a fact. She's punched me before and it hurt. That is exactly why she is the top warrior here in my pack. Shaking my head, I call for them, their attention now focused on me.
The two bow their heads. "Alpha,"
"Why is it, that a human is commanding my pack to repair the temple?" The two stammer, trying to find words. I roll my eyes, preparing to argue more when a soft voice speaks from behind.
"Because I am their Luna King, Darling." I whirl around and my eyes stop short on her small figure. Yes, I admit, she is small but those curves underneath those silky furs, man. Her sea-blue eyes sparkling with life. And the pet name...
"Ahem... Well, little human your not. I've rejected you, so you are no longer my mate." I walk a little closer, trying to intimidate the little human. She doesn't intimidate me.
"Don't lie, our mate is strong, so strong it scares you," my wolf replies, almost amused. I shake her away.
"Hmm?" My mate hums. "Is that so? Well, I've rejected your rejection, mate. The Moon Goddess paired me with you for a reason and who am I to go against a Goddess?" My lips rumble with a growl. She's defying me! Why is she defying me?!
"You can't do that, you're a human." Soleil comes closer, a smirk rising upon her much kissable lips. No! She isn't kissable!
"Denial..." my wolf sings.
"I'm afraid, I can." she shows me the mark behind her neck. "I belong in a pack and because of the mark I now share with you. Didn't you notice yours?" She cocks her head to the side, innocently. This little... what happened to the shy human I met the first time around. Wait, mark? Soleil lifts up her wrist, showing me the swirling black marks from the wrist up. The audience we had attracted gasped at the sight of the mate mark. My wolf howled in joy to see it.
Soleil marched towards me and grabbed my arm. I went to push her away but it was too late. My sleeve was pulled away, the same marks swirled around my own wrist. "H-How dare you!" I grab my mate around the arm, pulling her close. But no fear elapsed within her eyes. She looked proud.
"I wouldn't even think about it, mate. We have an audience and it looks like they hate you for hurting me." I turn to look at my pack, their eyes wide, some sad and some angry. What is going on?
My heart pounds as her scent fills my every sense. The sea breeze and forest grass. I became puddy between her hands just right there. Her eyes softening as she watches me, her smile lovingly. "I really want to try with you, Damira. I want to know every inch of you, mind, body and soul." She whispers, my heart-shattering. She can't... I don't... She can't know of me. It'll kill her.
I push her away, growling. "Do what you want, but we will never be together. Ever." I storm away, not looking back. She can't know my past. Never.
A/N So it looks like there is a soft side to our dominating Damira. Maybe she just needs to be loved. And who better to do that than Soliel? Do you like our new and improved Soul, guys? I think she's badass!
Well thanks for reading and can't wait to hear your feedback!
