bruce x reader
"y/n! you're coming to my game tonight, right?" bruce called out to you from a good ten feet back. you halted your walking, allowing him to catch up. "hey." he greeted, and you smiled.
"hey bruce. you know i'll be there, wouldn't miss it for the world." you assured him, and he gave a sigh of relief.
"awesome, okay, cool." he tried to contain his excitement. "this is the biggest game of the season, so you better be there to cheer me on." he insisted. you have him a slight nudge with your elbow.
"calm down, man, i'll be there." you repeated, and he nodded.
"yeah, yeah i know i'm just excited."
you flinched when you looked at the time, realizing you were going to be late for the game. you hopped up and got ready as quick as you could before grabbing your bike and booking it to the field. by the time you arrived, the game had already started. you frowned, but shook it off and rushed to find a place to sit and watch. you hoped you didn't miss anything too important. there was only one point on the board, which was dished out to the home team—bruce's team. you scanned the field, and froze up when you saw bruce stepping up got the plate. you noticed that he fit his baseball uniform well; he looked good. you tried not to think about those thoughts as he played. although, the way the muscles in his arms moved with his swings were almost mesmerizing.
he got a hit in, and he bolted it to first base, then to second, before the ball touched him. he panted as he straightened up a bit on his spot. he tilted his head, pulling the brim of his cap up to look over the audience. he spotted you, and a smile covered his face. he waved, and you cheered for him. hearing your cheers made his face red, but it was hard to tell from where you sat.
the game went on in his team's favor, winning by a landslide against the visiting team. you stood up, cheering with the audience as the score was finalized. you rushed past people and down the bleachers, waiting for bruce. he was high-fiving and hugging some of his teammates. you smiled at the sight of his bright grin, it sent butterflies to your stomach.
"y/n! did you see me out there!? two home runs in a row, how cool is that!?" he chimed as he approached you. he was ecstatic, and you were so happy for him.
"yeah, that was one of the best games i've seen in a while, you really carried the team." you said, and he blushed.
"thanks, y/n." he chuckled and looked toward the rest of the players. "we're gonna get some food, if you wanna come with us." he offered. "i can take you home after, if you need a ride."
"yeah, sure, count me in."
the two of you fled to the diner with his team, and all his friends couldn't stop looking at you.
"who's that?"
"they're not on the team."
"are you two dating?"
bruce would laugh at their questions, giving vague answers. his cheeks were darker with red the longer they asked these questions. one of his friends came up to you and whispered to you.
"bruce likes you. he won't shut up about you during practice." the boy said, and you felt heart rise to your face. bruce came up to you, and looked at his friend.
"what are you doing?" he asked, and his friend grinned, shrugging.
"i think your friend wanted to talk to you about something." he said, looking at your shocked expression. bruce seemed confused, but nodded, starting toward the door.
"you coming, y/n?" he called to you. you flinched a bit, getting out of your trance. you followed him, and he grabbed your shoulder. "are you okay? you're all red." he muttered, and you stammered a bit.
"yeah, yeah i'm good!" you answered a bit too enthusiastically, and he rose a brow suspiciously. "i think i need to head home now," you added, and he sighed, disappointed.
"right, okay. i'll walk you there." he offered, and you were too intrigued about what his friend had told you to say no. you led him to your neighborhood, and eventually to your house. there was almost nothing said the entire walk. it became awkward quick. by the time you arrived to your front door, you got out your house key and twisted it in the lock. bruce stopped you before you left. "hey, wait," he took your hand, and placed a baseball in your palm. he smiled at you. "the winning ball," he explained simply. you smiled back at him and held the ball to your chest.
"thank you, thanks for taking me out to eat too, i had a lot of fun." you said, warmth in your voice. he looked away nervously, rubbing the back of his head.
"yeah, i had fun too. thanks for coming out to my game." he hummed, then took your hand into his own. "before you leave," he stepped closer to you, "i have something to...tell you." he mumbled. you smiled and squeezed his hand gently. while he fumbled with his words, you pulled your hand from his and instead touched his cheek. he looked at you with wide eyes, and before either of you knew it, he closed the gap between the two of you. you relaxed into the kiss, and he tilted his head to lean into your touch. this went on for a good couple seconds, before you two broke apart. he smiled and chuckled under his breath.
"wow, i uh...that was really nice..." he said quietly, and you smiled back. "can i see you again sometime soon? maybe see a movie or something?" he asked, and you laughed a bit at how nervous he was.
"of course." he grinned at your response. you bid your farewells to him for the night and head inside to lay in bed. he left your front door, blushing and still able to feel the tingling of your lips on his. you couldn't wait for that date.
