Death of a Brother
Evelyn
"I haven't seen Damian the last few days. He comes and cleans my wounds and then goes away again. I don't even think he's coming home at night. What the hell is wrong with him lately? I should go to the warehouse and see what's happening. I can't drive, so I'll have to call a taxi and have the driver drop me off somewhere close to it.
I arrived at the warehouse a half hour later, and Parker allowed me to come in. He gave me a gin and tonic. "Thanks for letting me in Parker, and for the drink,"
"No problem, so what brings you down here?" Parker asked me.
"I'm looking for Damian, is he around?" I asked.
"I haven't seen Damian, but his car is out the back so he's around somewhere?" Parker smiled.
I sighed. "Alright, thanks," I smiled. "Out of curiosity, is there anyone special in your life?"
"I'm married," Parker said.
"Really? You don't seem like the settling down type," I was surprised, but when I looked at his hand, I saw a ring on his finger.
"I've been married for five years and have two children. We're all the settling down type, except Damian," Parker said.
"So Damian doesn't want to get married and have children?" I said. Then, Parker eyed me and smiled.
"Damian with a wife and a child, now THAT is funny," Parker laughed.
"Maybe someday he might change his mind," I said.
"Don't hold your breath, kid; Damian doesn't believe in marriage. He's a hump-and-dump man; he always was. He rarely sees the same women twice," Parker said.
"What are you doing here, Evelyn?" Damian said behind me.
I turned to face him as I got up from the bar stool. "Why shouldn't I be here? I am a member of the Black Dragons, am I not?"
"And that's my queue to leave," Parker took a bottle of wine and walked off.
"Do you not want me here or something, Damian?" I scoffed.
"Where did you get that idea?" Damian scowled.
"Well, it seems ever since you slept with me. You can't stand to be around me," I growled, but Damian put his hand over my mouth.
"Keep your damn voice down!" Damian said, but I quickly removed his hand.
"Why? Don't you want everyone to know I'm another notch on your bedpost?" I said.
"Have you been drinking?" Damian asked.
"Parker gave a drink to numb the pain, but other than that, it's none of your damn business!" I said.
"Calm down, Evelyn, I'm warning you," Damian growled.
"Go to hell, you creep!" I gulped down my last shot and walked away from him.
Damian
After Evelyn stormed off, I was pissed off. Jenna then had the gall to flirt and try to force herself on me moments after Evelyn left. She only backed off after Parker and I threatened to put a bullet in her head if she didn't stop.
"You okay, boss?" Parker asked.
"I will be when everyone remembers who's fucking in charge!" I roared.
I left the warehouse and got in my car. What the hell is happening to me? I never let a woman get under my skin like that. So why am I letting Evelyn? The other members think I'm going soft and must stop that. I command respect from all my men and women; they must remember that. Greg, Parker, and Phoenix are like my brothers. But I still demand respect from them, and they give it. Jenna has been crossing the line lately, and it is time to put her in her place. As for Evelyn, she's too close, and that is a problem. I've let my guard down around her, and it needs to stop. Evelyn needs to move out. I'm sure of that. But why does my chest tighten at the thought of not seeing Evelyn each morning? I didn't even look at Evelyn when I returned to the penthouse and mumbled that I was going to bed.
My eyes shot open when I heard a gunshot. I reached for my gun that I kept in my drawer and ran out of my room. I rushed to Avery's room and called out for him when I didn't see him. "Avery!" I looked around in his room again. "Where the hell are you?"
"Damian, I heard gunshots! What's going on?"" Evelyn said when I saw her in the halls.
"I think we are under attack. Did you see Avery?" I said.
"No," Evelyn shook her head.
"Stay behind me!" I pulled out my phone and called Parker. "Parker, it's me; we're under attack in the penthouse. Evelyn is with me, but I can't find Avery. Just get here as fast as you can," I hung up and turned to Evelyn. "Evelyn, go to my room and you'll find a secret door under the rug. Go down to the safe room and stay there until I come and find you,"
"No, you need someone to watch your back," Evelyn said.
"I can handle myself, just go, I need to find Avery," I said.
"Evelyn reluctantly nodded and ran to my bedroom while I checked the other penthouse rooms before finding myself in the living room. I point my gun at a figure. "Don't fucking move," I lowered my gun when I saw it was Gregory and Parker.
"Boss, it's just us," Greg yelled.
"Did you see anyone?" I said.
No, boss, whoever was here is gone," Greg said.
"Don't worry, we'll find out who was behind the attack tonight," I said.
"Boss, we have bad news," Parker said. "You might want to sit down,"
"I'm not sitting down, tell me what happened!" I demanded them. "What happened?" I realized that there was a room I had not checked—the bar area. I ran over there with Parker and Greg behind me, and what I saw made me breathless. "Avery?"
Pheonix was standing over his body. "Avery?" I got on my knees and held him in my arms. "Avery, wake up! Now's not the time to doze off, we have a situation here. Avery, wake up... Avery!" Tears rolled down my face as I couldn't feel my brother's heart beating. I roar in despair. My baby brother is dead, and god help whoever did this because I am coming for them, and I will kill them all!

(A Few Days Later)
"Can I see him?" I asked Greg.
"Sorry, Evelyn, but Damian is not seeing anyone. It would help if you prepared for the funeral, the cars will be here soon.
Ever since Parker told me that Avery was murdered, my heart sank. He was young and gentle. I was starting to get to know him and be friends. Now, I never had the opportunity to know Avery, honestly. I hope Damian finds the bastards that did this and makes them pay. I haven't seen Damian since his brother's death. He never comes out of his room, and only Greg, Parker, and Pheonix guard his door day and night. They think that whoever killed Avery will come to kill Damian when he is at his lowest, and there hasn't been any word on who was behind the attack.
But I know damn well that when the funeral is over. Damian will not rest until whoever killed Avery is dead. I wore a black dress and my black coat—time to go. For the whole ride to the cemetery, no one spoke a word. Damian's jaw was clenched the entire time. I stayed looking at the floor, not wanting to make eye contact with any of them. The church bells rang as we arrived.
"Rest easy, Avery," I said as I touched the coffin. "You will be avenged," I walked past Damian.
"I promise you, Avery, that I'll get them. Every single last one of them. I will avenge your death, and I will destroy them all," Damian said.
I placed a rose on Avery's grave after it was lowered.
One week after the funeral, we found out who killed Avery.
A gang known as the Cobalt Syndicate. It was Vinnie and Johnny at the penthouse that night, but the word going around was that Vinnie shot Avery. But Vinnie went underground, and the worst part was he had not been seen since that night.
I was drinking a glass of wine at the warehouse, listening to Damian and Parker talking.
"Find them. I want a list of all their family members, and I will start killing them one by one until they come out of hiding," Damian roared.
"Damian, no! You said you never kill innocent people," I look him in the eyes.
"An eye of an eye, Evelyn," Damian growled when he looked at me.
"And the world goes blind," I finished the saying.
