Confused Feelings
Evelyn
The following day came, and I soon realized I had fallen asleep before I was about to have sex with Damian. Did he ever come back? I got the dress and decided to look for Damian, but I found Avery watching the morning news. "Avery, have you seen Damian?" I asked him before yawning.
"We went out. Damian told me to tell you that your phone is on the kitchen counter," Avery smiled.
"Alright, thank you." I walked to the kitchen and smiled when I found the phone on the counter. I opened my phone and saw that I had missed 40 calls from Dylan, and he left one text message. "You better answer your phone, Evelyn; I know where you are, and you'll be sorry."
I felt the walls closing in around me as voices of Dylan abusing me started coming up. Please, god, not now. I can't have a panic attack, not here. Then Avery's voice got me out of my panic attack.
"Hey, Evelyn, I'm heading out for a few hours," Avery said behind me, but he noticed my distress. "You okay?"
I took a few deep breaths. "Yeah, don't worry about me. Is Damian back?"
"No, he's at the warehouse, and I'm currently heading there. Do you want me to pass on a message?" Avery asked.
"I want to come with you," I said. "I don't want to be here alone."
If Dylan truly knows where I am, he can find a way into the penthouse and do whatever he wants to me, and I'll be powerless to stop him. I should stick around with people that I know I can trust. Avery is an excellent young man, so I trust him.
"Yeah, of course." Avery nodded.
"Thank you so much; let me get my jacket, and we can get going.
Avery and I left the penthouse and started to go to the warehouse. Avery looks too young to drive, but if I remember right, he should be around 18.
"So, Avery, when did you learn how to drive?" I asked him.
"Damian taught me when I was 16 and got my license. He believes there is no excuse for not being able to learn how to drive. Unless you have a medical condition that prevents you from operating a car."
I better not tell Damian I'm 23 and can't drive a car." I laughed.
"Yeah, that's for the best." Avery giggled.
"How old is Damian anyway?" I asked
"He's 26 and a massive pain in my ass. It's just the two of us after our parents were murdered. We used to have a sister, but she died before I was born. She would've been 21 this year," Avery explained.
"What happened to her?" I said.
She drowned when she was 3; her name was Ann. She would've liked you."
The rest of the car ride was silent. Avery stopped the car in front of a ruined building. "What's the deal with the front of the building?" I said as we got out of the car and went inside.
"My brother thinks the broken windows will make rivals believe there's no one here," Avery explained.
"Damian does have a point. This place is like Fort Knox, and people could get into a maximum security prison faster than they would get in here." I said.
"I see that you're not fooled by appearances, Evelyn. You're going fit in just fine here. There are alarms and cameras everywhere here. Now only some people can get in here; only Damian, Phoenix, and myself have the code, and Damian changes it weekly." Avery said.
"At least it's safe here." I took a deep breath.
"Yeah, it's outside that is the problem; let's go." Avery grabbed my hand as he guided me to the main chamber of the warehouse. I saw Damian with an unknown woman.
"Avery, who's that with Damian?"
"That's Sookie Geller; she was with Phoenix on a job the other night. That's why you haven't met them." Avery said.
"Who's Pheonix? Is that a nickname?" I asked.
"No, that's his real name, Evelyn, and he's right by the fireplace," Avery said. He was sitting on a chair, drinking alcohol.
"Is there something going on between Sookie and Damian? I see her winking at him and giving sexual poses. They also seem close." I said.
"Who knows with my brother, but I know he has a no-relationship rule between members. That rule doesn't apply to him, though. Well, I'm going to get a soda."
Interesting. So I know he slept with Jenna, and now probably Sookie as well? I approached Pheonix and introduced myself. "I'm Evelyn; it's nice to meet you, Pheonix."
"I see some people have told you about me. It's nice to meet you, Evelyn," Pheonix smiled.
"Evelyn, we're leaving. Sorry to cut your conversation short, Pheonix." Damian said.
"Not a problem; I hope we can continue our chat some other time, Evelyn," Pheonix said.
"Of course." I nodded.
"Phoenix, you know the plan tonight?" Damian asked. "Don't mess it up; Gregory is going with you."
"Yes, sir," Pheonix nodded.
"Avery, let's go; we're leaving."
Avery and I got in Damian's car while Damina instructed his men to bring Avery's car back to the parking lot near the hotel where the penthouse is. "Evelyn, why did you not want to stay home alone today?"
"I'm sorry?" I said with confusion.
"Avery told me you didn't want to stay home alone," Damian said with curiosity.
"Oh, no reason at all." I rubbed my arms. I hope he doesn't suspect I'm afraid to be alone. We returned to the penthouse, and I wondered if I should talk to him about what happened last night. I felt my phone vibrate and opened a text that came from Dylan.
"No one will ever want you; you're ugly. You better call me, or I'll come to get you. Sweet Dreams Cupcake!"
I should ask Damian about these texts; he could help. I saw him walking around without a shirt on him. His chiseled upper body was mouthwatering; I removed the dirty thoughts from my head and approached him. "Damian, I need to talk to you. It's important."
"Can it wait, Evelyn? The game's about the start, and grab me a beer from the fridge," Damian asked.
"Sure," I breathed heavily. I went to my room for the night after I handed him the bottle of beet he wanted. I noticed he's been avoiding me all day. I wonder why he didn't mention anything about last night. Okay, falling asleep while he was going to get a condom would annoy any man. I didn't do it on purpose, though. I can't sleep with these thoughts in my head; I should go to the entertainment room and get some things off my mind before bed. I saw a bottle of wine on the counter and poured myself a glass.
"Pahlmeyer Jayson Red," I read what was on the bottle. "Damn, this tastes good," I said.
"What do you think you're doing?" Damian said. I quickly turned around and saw Damian with his arms crossed, giving me an emotionless face.
"I'm so sorry; I couldn't sleep, so I thought having a drink would help me feel asleep quicker. I thought everyone was in bed." I said.
"Everyone was in bed until you set off the alarms by leaving the penthouse!" Damian yelled. "We thought we were under attack.
"I didn't know that," I said, shocked. But then I noticed the gun in Damian's hand. "I didn't think,"
"It's a good thing; I noticed your usual moping. You are very sexy, Evelyn. With that body, every enemy of the Black Dragons will crawl to your feet."
"Sexy? That's the first time I've heard that word used to describe me." I said.
"Who says you're not sexy?" Damian warmly cupped my face.
"No one," I said. Suddenly, Damian's lips were on mine; he swiftly lifted me onto the pool table like I weighed nothing. His lips never left mine, and he whispered, "You're beautiful, Evelyn Jones," in my ear. He told me I was beautiful each time he kissed me, but I knew he only told me what I wanted to hear. It's nice to listen to these compliments after all the physical and verbal abuse from Dylan.
Suddenly, I feel Damian pull away and push me behind him. He pulls out his gun and aims. I know guns are pointed, but I can't see anything while behind Damian. "You idiots!" I now realize the shooters are Parker and Gregory. They drop their guns as Damian orders them to do so.
"What the fuck, boss?" Greg said.
"Have you both lost your goddamn minds?" Damian yelled.
"Sorry, boss, Avery called us to think that the penthouse was under attack," Parker explained.
"Turn the fuck around!" Damian ordered coldly. Then, when they turned around, Damian faced me. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine," I reassured him.
"Go to bed; I'll talk to you in the morning," Damian said.
I walked off and into the elevator. I could almost hear Damian screaming at Parker and Greg. I hope he doesn't rip them a new one.
