The Bittersweet Consequence
A/N: Hey everyone! Hope you guys liked the previous short story. This one is a little bit different, and a little bit same as 'Field Trip'. Wow, for the first time, I don't know what to say in this A/N. Well anyways...
Also, thank you so much for showing so much love to 'Field Trip'. Honestly, I wasn't too sure about the story line, but I guess it turned out to be good. And, I am currently planning the plot for 'Field Trip 2' (yes that's the name until I come up with a better one). If you guys have any idea, or suggestion for it, please do comment here!
On with the story!
"Get him off me, Hermione."
Hermione looked up from the photo album to see Crookshanks sitting on top of Draco's head. It wasn't anything new, her cat had been doing that since past few days. And, it didn't look like it would stop anytime soon.
"You know he will eventually get off, Draco. Just be patient." She said, looking back at the photo album.
"But he's ruining my hair. I did not spend an hour trying to make my hair 'perfect' just to let him ruin it. Do something." He complained.
"Stop whining, Draco. Even if I do something, he'll again jump on you, and sit on top of your head. And, I refuse use any spells on him." Hermione told him.
"Then I'll use my magic on him." Draco said, and looked around for his wand, only to find it in Hermione's hand.
"Why do you have to non-verbally accio my wand every single time I threaten to do something? I didn't even harm him yet." Draco told her.
"You will not use any spell on him, Draco. Just wait a few minutes, he will go away." Hermione waved her hand at him, and continued looking at the album.
"What are you even doing?" He asked her, moving to sit next to her on the couch. The idiot cat had finally gotten off him.
"Oh, I was just going through this photo album your mother sent me yesterday." She informed him.
"My mother? But, wait-whose photos are there in this album?" He asked her, leaning a bit closer to look at it.
Hermione drew a sharp breath as she felt his arm touching hers. He shifted a bit, and then placed his arm on her shoulders.
"I-it has o-our photos." She stuttered.
Merlin, why was his presence affecting her so much?
"Hey, look! Isn't this from our so called 'date' a year ago?" He asked her, pointing to the picture in which they both could be seen sitting at the Three Broomsticks in Hogsmeade.
Hermione smiled as she remembered that day.
Flashback
"Where are you, Narcissa?" Hermione asked herself as she checked her watch again.
She had asked her to meet at the Three Broomsticks at one o'clock. It was five minutes past that time, and she still hadn't arrived.
She had her back towards the door, sitting in her favourite table. She heard the door open, and turned around a bit.
As soon as she saw a person with blonde hair entering the restaurant, she returned back to her previous position.
She couldn't see the person's face, or anything else except their hair for that matter, since she was sitting in front of a tall bookshelf which was kept sideways. The shelf was open from both the sides, and some of the shelves were empty, mainly those which were near her head, so she could only see the hair.
Assuming it was Narcissa, she bent down to tie her shoelaces. She didn't bother looking up when she heard someone sitting in front of her.
"Good afternoon, Narcissa-"
"Hello, mother. How-"
Hermione froze as she heard that voice. His voice.
He almost dropped his wand as he heard that voice. Her voice.
-----------
Draco had entered the restaurant wearing a cloak with its hood up. It has been almost eleven months since the war ended, but that didn't mean that people would greet him with open arms.
He still got those stares and whispers whenever he entered a famous place. So, whenever he had to go out, he preferred to keep the hood up. But that didn't prevent people from noticing his famous blond hair. It almost reached his eyebrows, but he, for some weird reason, refused to cut it.
His mother had sent him a letter half an hour ago, saying that she wanted to meet him in the Three Broomsticks. She had told him that she will be wearing a cloak, with its hood up, so he may or may not know where she was sitting when he entered the restaurant. So, she would be sitting in the table in front of the bookshelf. And, there was only one table like that.
He hadn't bother to look up as he sat down on the chair. The person, whom he assumed to be his mother, was wearing a cloak and was bent under the table for some reason, so he picked up his wand and started playing with it.
"You!"
"You?"
Hermione's jaw dropped. "Why are you here, Malfoy?" She asked him.
"What the heck are you doing here, Granger?" He asked her.
"Well, it's not really any of your business, but just so you know, your mother called me here." She informed him.
"What the- stop lying, Granger. Why will my mother call a mud-" He his eyes widened as he realised the word he was about to speak.
Hermione glared at him while covering her arm on which his deranged arm had carved that foul word.
"I-I am sorry. Old habits die hard, you know?" He awkwardly scratched the back of his neck. She narrowed her eyes at him, and he quickly added, "Look, I am sorry, okay? But, why would my mother call you here?"
"I don't know. She sent me a letter this morning, asking me to meet her here at one o'clock, and that it was urgent. So, I just came here. Now, why are you here?" She asked him.
"My mother sent me a letter as well, half an hour ago, demanding me to meet her here. And, I can't exactly deny her, you know. I don't want to face her wrath afterwards." He informed her.
"Oh-but wait, why did you come and sit here, then?" She asked him.
He then began telling her what his mother had exactly told him in the letter. As he finished, she just looked at him for a moment and then stood up.
"Well then, I guess I should be going." She picked up her bag and turned to leave. But before she could even take a step forward, an invisible force seemed to push her backwards, and she fell down on the chair.
"You okay?" He asked her.
"Y-yeah. What just had happened?" She stared at him.
Draco stood up, and tried to take a step forwards. But the same happened, and he fell back on his chair.
"I think there's a barrier or something, preventing us from leaving." He said.
"But why would-" She started but was cut off.
As if on cue, a peacock shaped patronus appeared in front of them. "Good afternoon, Miss Granger, and my dear Draco. I hope by know you both would've figured out what's happening. And, if not, let me clear it for you."
Draco blinked as he recognised the voice as his mother's.
"I sent a letter to you both, asking you to meet me here. I have seen you sitting on this very bench several times before, Miss Granger, and I figured you would sit here today as well. I saw you entering Hogsmeade, wearing a cloak half an hour ago, so I sent Draco a letter asking him to meet me here." Narcissa's patronus said.
"More like demanding me to meet her here." Draco muttered.
"I am assuming you have told her everything about the letter, Draco. And, if not, then I am dissapointed in you, and you can tell her after this message." The patronus continued.
"Why does she have to be correct?" He kept on muttering.
Hermione shut him up with a look, and turned her attention back to the patronus.
"I heard from my dear friend, Minerva McGonagall, yes, Draco, your very own Headmistress, there's no need to look so shocked." It said.
Hermione looked at him to see his jaw dropped, and eyes wide. Narcissa was indeed correct about him.
"Anyways, she told me that you two have been constantly fighting so much, resulting in a loss of points to both Slytherin and Gryffindor, a number of detentions for you two, and lastly, a headache to all the Professors. I did not teach you to fight like this, Draco. I am ashamed. Why can't you be polite for once?" The patronus said.
"Of course, she will scold me. I can literally imagine her shaking her head at this." He scoffed, and Hermione tried to suppress her laughter.
"And, I cannot stand that. You two almost destroyed the whole potions classroom yesterday because you refused to work together nicely on the potion. You may be wondering why am I talking about that. Well, the thing is, Minnie- I mean, Minerva actually told me about a plan."
"A House Unity plan. I absolutely love the idea, and I am going to support her in every way I can. Also, she informed that you both, being the Head Girl and Boy, have to organise the end of the year Ball."
"I don't even know we were supposed to do that. McGonagall never informed us. That's not even fair." Draco kept on complaining.
Hermione was getting irriated by him. She took her wand out, accioed his wand, and cast the 'Silencio' spell on him.
He couldn't do anything but glare at her.
"I want that Ball to be the best, and I don't want you to ruin it, thus ruining your Headmistress' reputation. I will not tolerate that. So, I planned this."
"I have already asked Minnie's permission to allow you both to walk around Hogsmeade till dinner. You both won't be able to leave this restaurant until you call a truce, and Hogsmeade until you at least begin a friendship. And, you know not to underestimate me, Draco. Your wands won't work against the charm."
"Well, that's all I had to say. I love you, Draco, and Miss Granger, please tell me how did you manage to tolerate him all these years when we actually meet. Enjoy your 'date'!" The patronus finished and dissappeared.
Hermione sighed and removed the spell from Draco, giving him his wand back. He immediately stood up, and started looking around.
"What are you doing?" She asked him.
"I am trying to find a way to escape." He used his wand to break the window near the table, but it didn't work.
"Malfoy, sit down. People are looking at us." Hermione said, her eyes focused on the table.
"Let them look, I know I am way too handsome." He muttered, and tried breaking the barrier using his wand, but the result was the same.
"You sit down right now, or I swear I'll call your mother here." She threatened him.
He reluctantly sat back down. "You don't even know my mother nicely and you are threatening me like this. How funny."
"I can guess that you are scared of your mother just because of the patronus' message, Malfoy. It doesn't take a genius to understand that, but then again, I won't expect you to understand that." She smirked at him.
"I am deeply offended." He told her.
"You were meant to be." She rolled her eyes, and ordered two Butterbeers for them.
As Madam Rosmerta contacted Narcissa to let her know what was happenning, she couldn't help but smirk at the way those two were looking at each other.
True love, if you asked her.
"I don't want Butterbeer. I want to drink Firewhiskey." He said, narrowing his eyes at the glass of butterbeer. How can she even chose it over Firewhiskey? He thought.
"You're the Head Boy. You can't just drink it in the afternoon. Be grateful that I at least ordered a Butterbeer for you." Hermione took a sip from her glass.
"Do I look like I care? Because even if I do, I don't." He rolled his eyes.
"You can drink it later, if you want, okay? Maybe in the evening or something." She shrugged.
"Oh, so you do want to hang out with me? Didn't know you had a crush on me, Granger." He winked at her.
Despite his annoying statement, Hermione blushed a little bit. "It's not like I have a choice, do I?"
"Oh come on. I am not that bad of a company." He said and finally took a sip of his drink. After they finished drinking it.
"Okay, so we are supposed to call a truce." She held out her hand to him. "Truce?"
"It's not like I have a choice, do I?" He repeated her statement, but a second later, he shook her hand. "Truce."
After paying for their drinks, he led her to Honeydukes, buying all the unnecessary stuff. He ignored her rolling her eyes at him as he bought a bunch of green apple flavored candies, and paid for her stuff even when she refused.
"It's not everyday I pay for your stuff. Besides, my mother would be proud of me for doing this." Was the explanation he gave to her.
"You are mad, you know that?" She told him as they exited the shop.
He ignored her comment. "I can't believe there were only five types of apple flavored candies. Like, are you kidding me? They should have at least fifty."
"You're so dramatic." She said, and started walking faster than him.
"Or maybe at least hundred types. How can they-" He was so busy complaining that he didn't notice the huge distance between them.
"Hey! Wait up, Granger!" He shouted.
----------
It was past dinner when they exited Hogsmeade. They had been so engrossed in walking around, and visiting all the shops that they hadn't notice the time.
"There was one more condition, we have to be 'friends'." Draco told her as he stopped walking and turned to face her.
"Right, friends." She held out her, and he shook it.
He took a step closer to her, and smirked at her. "Hope you enjoyed our date, Granger."
"I enjoyed it so much that I won't be looking forward to the next one." She said, causing both of them to burst out laughing.
Somehow both of them knew that it was a lie.
Flashback over
"I have to say, I really enjoyed spending my time with you that day." Draco said. turnig the pages of the album.
Hermione smiled at him, and said, "If it wasn't for your mother, I doubt we would be sitting here right now, looking at these photos."
"But why would my mother sent this to you?" He asked her.
"I don't know." She told him.
But she perfectly knew why. Narcissa knew Hermione liked her son.
(A/N: Just to clarify, Hermione and Draco aren't dating yet. They are simply close friends.)
"Well, I should go now. I have a date tonight." He stood up from the couch.
Hermione nodded, and stood up as well. "I have a date as well."
"You do? Who's the lucky guy then?" He asked, as he ruffled her hair.
"I don't know. Ginny set me up on a blind date. I'll just have to find out at the restaurant, I guess." She told him.
"No way! Blaise set me up on a blind date as well. What a coincidence, huh?" He grinned at her.
"Yeah. I don't even know why those two have to do this, playing matchmakers." Hermione rolled her eyes and he chuckled at her.
He hugged her tightly as she wrapped her arms around him. Pulling away after a few moments, she kissed his cheek, as she always did.
"Goodbye, Draco." She told him.
He waved at her, and apparated to his apartment.
Touching his cheek, he blushed. "When did I even fall in love with her?"
----------
Hermione was arrived three minutes earlier in the restaurant with Ginny. She led her to the table, and pulled out her wand.
"Tell me everything, okay?" Ginny told her.
"Don't you have anything better to do. I just hope the guy isn't like McLaggen. I can't believe I asked him to the party." Hermione sighed.
"Oh don't worry. The guy is perfect, a big idiot, yes, but good enough." Ginny winked at her, and disapparated.
Hermione didn't know what to expect.
-----------
"Why do I have a blindfold on my eyes?" Draco asked as Blaise led him inside the restaurant.
"So you won't run away." He said, and stood in front of Draco, removing the blindfold from his eyes.
"Now remember, I have put up those charms that your mother taught me, so of course you won't be able to escape. Enjoy!" Blaise grinned at him and disapparated.
--------
"You!"
"You?"
Draco couldn't believe it. His date was none other than Hermione Granger. He looked around a bit, and then sat across her. He hadn't expected she would be here when Blaise had told him which table he was supposed to sit.
"What are you doing here? I am waiting for my-wait, you aren't my date, are you?" Hermione asked him.
"Are you seriously the Brightest Witch of Our Age? Of course, I am your date. Why else would I be here?" Draco asked.
"But Ginny said that the guy was perfect, and a big idiot. Oh wait, the description fits you, except the first part of course." Hermione grinned at him.
He rolled his eyes at her. "If I didn't know any better, I would think that Blaise and Weaslette were trying to make us date each other."
Hermione shurgged and said, "Whatever. Let's enjoy this date, shall we?"
---------
"Draco! Quickly come to Hermione's flat." Narcissa told her son.
"But why? I have a meeting in fifteen minutes." He checked his watch as talked to his mother on the phone.
Yes, Narcissa Malfoy was using a mobile phone. Hermione had introduced the phone to her during one of her visits, and she liked it so much that she immediately bought one.
"I had just arrived in her flat, and I saw her u-unconscious on the floor. I took her to her room. I don't know what to do, Draco. I left my wand at the Manor, and her house doesn't even have the floo network." Narcissa said.
Draco almost dropped the phone as he heard that. "I-I coming there right now."
The meeting can wait, she was his priority.
"I think you scared the poor boy." Her friend told her as Narcissa ended the call.
"They were taking too long to admit the truth. Come on, use the disillusionment charm on yourself, he would be coming here any minute now." She said.
----------
"Where is she?" Draco immediately asked as he came to her house.
"I told you she's in her bedroom. Please do something, Draco." Narcissa pleaded.
He nodded and ran up the stairs to her bedroom. He opened the door, and saw her lying on the bed.
You would think she was simply sleeping, but he knew she wasn't.
He walked towards her, and sat down next to her on the bed.
"Hermione! Please wake up, Hermione." He said as he took her hand in his, squeezing it lightly. Nothing happened, and tried once more.
He started panicking as he didn't know what to do. He had left his wand at Blaise's office in the Ministry as he was there before he went back to his office.
Her apartment wasn't far from the Ministry, but instead of going back to Blaise's office and taking his wand and then coming here, he just ran all the way from the Ministry to her home.
Yes, he was an idiot. But he was the idiot was in love with her.
"Please wake up, Hermione. Please don't leave me." H repeated again and again.
He didn't notice her eyes fluttering.
"I love you, there, I said it. Please wake up. Don't leave me, Hermione, I love you so much. I can't live without you." He closed his eyes.
"Really?"
His eyes snapped open as he heard her voice. She was looking up at him, and slowly sat up on the bed.
He immediately hugged her tightly. "Don't ever scare me like that again. But, why were you unconscious?"
"Unconscious? I was sleeping. I worked till midnight yesterday, and so I was tired." She told him, watching his eyes widened in realization.
He wanted to smack his head as he realized what his mother had done. She wasn't the type of person to go somewhere without her wand.
He shook his head and stood up. He was about to walk away, when he felt her squeezing his hand.
"You love me? Really?" She asked him.
He slowly nodded. "I thought you only saw me as your friend. I am such an idiot." She smiled at him.
"That means-"
"Yes! I love you too, ferret." She grinned at him.
He grinned back, and sat back down. He cupped her cheek with one hand, and placed the other on her waist. Hermione leaned in, and placed her hands on his cheeks. He looked at her for a moment, and then slowly leaned in. His lips gently touched hers, giving her the chance to pull away. But instead of that, she kissed him back.
"Let's go downstairs. I need to deal with someone." He said as he pulled away.
--------
"Are you serious, mother? I was so scared." Draco said as he saw his mother smiling sheepishly at him, McGonagall standing next to her.
"I should have known you would be involved as well." He rolled his eyes.
"Well, you were taking too long to finally admit you feelings, so we thought we might help you." McGonagall smiled at him.
"Well, we best be going. Just ask her to be your girlfriend now. I don't want to put up those charms again." His mother waved at them, and then disapparated along with her friend.
"Thsoe two are something else." Hermione rolled her eyes, but she was smiling as well.
"I can't believe I am in love with a Beaver." He grinned at her.
She smacked his arm, and asked, "What do you think about all of this?"
He wrapped an arm around her waist, and kissed her temple. "Well, I love you, but you hit me so much. I would say this was a bittersweet consequence."
A/N: That was it for this short story. It was 3600+ words. Hope you guys liked it. It was a bit similar to Field Trip as Narcissa tries to set them up together. Random question: Do you like Narcissa planning for Hermione and Draco? Answer in the comments below. Vote, comment and please share my story. Reviews are always appreciated.
I know this short story was really crappy and boring. I had two ideas, but the second one wasn't planned nicely, so I couldn't write it. The original plot for this story was honestly better than this, but as I started writing this, it didn't look that good to me, so I changed somethings. I don't even know what the main topic or plot was in this story *facepalms.* Again, I am sorry. But thanks for reading it.
Also, don't forget my next book, 'Dramione Oneshots' comes out on 1/6/20(Monday). It will be a combination of Oneshots and short stories. Hope you guys will like it. And, if you have any ideas or suggestions, please comment here!!
Thank you!
