Ezra's P.O.V

I woke up to find myself snuggled up against Kanan's chest. I smiled and didn't want this to end. The warmth and safety was all I needed to know that I was loved. Years of denial and fear on the streets left me to trust no one until I met the crew. They gave me a home and a family. At least that's what the voice in the back of my head says. From what I could tell from yesterday and last night, it actually felt like I did have a family again.

"Morning Ezra," I heard Kanan whisper to me but I still pretended to sleep. "I know you're awake," he added. "No I'm not," I said getting a chuckle out of him. "Alright, then I guess I'll have to wake you up," he said and I didn't like the sound of playfulness in his voice.

It was all so sudden when gentle fingers squirmed on my sides. I was laughing so hard that I was crying. "Stop! I'm awake! I'm awake!" I laughed then the devious fingers retreated back to their owners. The smile on my face never faded as Kanan sat up in bed. I sat up too and yawned.

   I didn't see Hera anywhere so I assumed that she was somewhere in the Ghost. I climbed out of bed and Kanan did to before picking me up. "Happy Birthday!!!" He said ruffling my hair and I smiled but a but confused. Wasn't my birthday like two days ago or am I in the past in an alternate universe?

I don't know anymore. The only thing that needs to be done that I know of is to get everything back to normal. "So what do you want to do today?" Kanan asked while carrying me to the kitchen. "I don't know," I said as we entered the kitchen. Sabine looked over at us and gave me the biggest smile. "Happy birthday!!!" She yelled and ruffled my hair.

"Why does everyone like messing with my hair?" I asked fixing my hair. Hera walked over to us and took me from Kanan to hold me. "Alright, would you rather have this," she said and attacked me with multiple kisses on the cheek. I laughed so hard cause it tickled so much. "No! Stop!" I laughed and Hera stopped with a smile.

   I was surprised by how everyone was acting (especially Chopper, but he won't admit that). I looked around at the crew, my new family. I never thought I would get that back but now here they were the whole time, under my nose. Yet, I couldn't stay like this. Good things had to come to an end and soon soon I'll be back to the others.

   Others, as in the opposite of the crew that I'm with now. The ones the cared and loved me even if it's only been less than two days.

   Hera set me down and we all started to do things at a party. Like games, watched a movie, and now it was time for the last thing. The cupcake.

   They sang happy birthday to me and brought the cupcake over setting it in front of me. Such a simple party dessert and full of power to grant wishes. The lights were off and the crew stood or sat around the table. The light of the candle was the only light in the room showing whatever it could from the shadows.

   I looked one more time at all the faces of the crew. I closed my eyes and said, "I wish everything went back to normal."

Breath in.

I blew.

The fire went out.

The room went dark.

   "Ezra."

   I opened my eyes then rubbed them looking around to see where I was. "Hey kid. You ok?" I  craned my neck to see green. "Kanan?" I said and that's when I noticed that I was laying my head on the table with my arms as a pillow. I sat up and looked around to see that the cupcake was moved over some.

   My eyes scanned myself and saw that I was back to normal again. That's when I noticed Kanan still waiting for an answer. "Yeah, I'm fine," I said rubbing my sore neck. Kanan smiled and ruffled my hair. "Good to know," he said, "Must of been some dream you were having."

   I looked over at him confused. "What dream?" I asked and that's when it hit me. That was all a dream. "You fell asleep out here. My guess the whole night," he said then Hera walked in smiling at us. "Hello boys," she said and sat across from me. "I guess you are not going to eat the cupcake?" She added looking at me a bit sad.

   I looked over at her then at the cupcake. They through me a party because they cared. I see that now. They do care for me and it took that dream just to notice that. "Who going to stop me from eating a dessert for breakfast?" I said making Hera smiled. I took the cupcake and started to eat it. "This is really good," I said with my mouth full.

   "Thanks," she said and Kanan brought over three cups of water for us. "I should be thanking all of you," I said without food in my mouth this time. "You guys took me in and even tried to give me a small party."

   Kanan sat next to me and slung an arm over my shoulders. "What's family for?" He said and grabbed a napkin wiping my face. "Hey!" I protested trying to get away from the napkin. He took the napkin back and said, "Sorry, you had a frosting mustache." I think I surprised Kanan when I laid my head on his shoulder.

   This was my family. It just took a cupcake and a lit candle to see that. Now I'm happy with to know that I'm never going to be alone again.
