Chapter Twenty two: Saving Rekiya II

You are reading The Birth of Rekiya ❤️

"Your Highness," the short man with grey beards said. His big stomach pushing out of his clothes before he brought down his head and bowed to Prince Dermin. He remained on his knees but raised his head. "Your Highness, Princess bathed with a deadly herb. This particular herb, if you have no wounds on your body that it can penetrate into, it will form wounds on its own to take immediate effect."

"Your Highness, Princess must have also taken it with something. When taken by mouth, fresh or old wounds open up, and would not heal if she uses this herb continuously. And if continually taken, it can kill after a year. It is a slow process to kill, and no one would know if the person did not visit a physician," the man said.

Prince Dermin froze on his spot. The beads of sweats on his forehead could only be due to his anxiety. His eyes wide awake like something terrible had happened to him. Of course, the man's explanation had brought one and two together. He tried to hide the shock building up on his face. The physician had narrated what must have been happening to him for a while. His wounds. They never healed. They were just like when he got them. The bathing water. He would always feel tired after his bath, excruciating pain eating him up from inside. Unlike today that his body was relaxed. He even felt like going back to sleep. Then the medicine. The medicine that came from his own mother. Clearly, someone was using his mother. What an effrontery! The audacity of such person made him angry. Prince Dermin finally told the man to sit on his couch, but he refused.

Yasmine came to the physician and told him he had nothing to worry about.

Prince Dermin had refused to call the royal physician who had been taking care of his wounds. He only did that because he didn't want words to get out that Rekiya fainted. Thopar had recommended the man as one of the best physicians outside the palace.

Prince Dermin faced the man. "What are the symptoms if someone has been on this herb for long?"

"Your Highness," the man began. "Just like the Princess feels today, the body will be so extremely weak that it would become so unbearable, if the person is just starting. But if one had been on it for long, the person would have gotten use to the pain, the tiredness, loss of appetite, and lack of sleep. Any wound the person has before, or must have developed during the use of the herb would not heal if not stopped, and will lead to the person's death after a year."

Yasmine and Thopar gasped. All colour drained from their eyes. They tried not to believe what the physician had just said. Someone had been tampering with the Crown Prince's bathing water. And the medicine. It was so unbelievable for the two of them as the shocking expression remained on their faces.

Yasmine thought. Rekiya had seen something.

How could she use herself?

What if she had died?

What if?

Prince Dermin's eyes were suddenly red. Tears welled up in his eyes. He was close to tears but he won't let them fall. It was the look he had on whenever he was afraid. His hands went into his short hair, down his neck and they dropped in frustration. He was beginning to get scared again. Despite enough soilders protecting him, personal chef cooking for him, selected maids serving him, tight security here and there…. He turned his face away from everyone and let out his fears. He could have died. Just like that. Someone wants him dead. Someone wants him dead. Someone really wants him dead. Because he was the Crown Prince. And they would have succeeded if Rekiya had never seen them. Not even the royal physician playing with his life.

Eventually, the tears came down. It was so hot that it burned his cheeks. Clinging unto his chest as if his heart was going to slip out. Why? What has he done to deserve this?

Two hands came around him and he hugged Yasmine back. His head resting on his old maid shoulder to stop himself from crying. She was his second mum. Always there for him whenever he was afraid. Especially with all the dangers that came with being the Crown Prince. He needed the hug. As much as he hated breaking down like the little ten year old boy, he couldn't help it. Thopar and Yasmine, including his friends were his family. The only people he trusted. The ones who made him feel love and comfortable around them. All the love his mother showered on him while he was young suddenly disappeared when he was thirteen because they believed he had matured and shouldn't be acting like a weak boy. And of course, he missed his mother. He was now grown that any form of affection from his mother made him cringe.

She had gone from being a caring mother to a supportive wife, and the lovely mother of Akugba Kingdom.

When Prince Dermin released himself from the hug, he turned to the physician sitting on his couch. He said nothing for about three seconds. Silence taking full control of the room. Prince Dermin slowly turned his head towards Rekiya. The anger in eyes dissolved at the sight of her. His eyes softened seeing how helpless she was. She could have just informed him or Thopar or Yasmine. She could have told anyone of them and immediately they would plan to fish out the culprit. Prince Dermin thought. What if she had died? What if?

She needed to be taken care first.

Prince Dermin turned to the physician again. His eyes as cold as ever. Shutting down every part of his memory trying to remind him of his fears. "How many hours will it take to recover with all the spots on her body gone?"

"Eight hours Your Highness. Her body has not consumed so much at all."

"Thopar. The underground."

Thopar gaped at the Crown Prince. "Your Highness, no one should–"

"Do as I say. Now."

Yasmine and Thopar stared at him. The underground passage shouldn't be known by just anyone, and besides, they expected him to communicate his wounds too. They didn't want to act so selfish, but he needed to be treated very quickly also. He had been on the herb for months. They wanted him to talk about himself to the physician too, but he was just about Rekiya. Again, Yasmine tried to remind him reasons not just anyone should know the secret passage. As much as they tried to disagree with him, they understood he was doing that not to alert the spy around him. He was smart, and would risk everything he can to protect himself.

While Thopar left with the physician, Yasmine looked down at Rekiya before her gaze settled on Min. The boy she had nurtured and cared for since he was a baby. The boy who grew up in her arms. She didn't want to believe what she was seeing, but it looked like he was beginning to risk all he had to someone rather than himself.

Yasmine then looked around. As if she was searching for something. Her eyes found the black curtain covering the Crown Prince's paintings. Then remembered his paintings that had a girl with a very long hair.

Yasmine, I saw a girl with a very long hair in the palace today. But she's just a commoner brought into the palace. Mother had told me about her.

What did mother say?

She said she's a monster.

And do you think she's a monster?

I love her hair.

2) Prince Toro never wanted to associate with Rekiya. Why?
3) Now, Yasmine revealed to us about the Queen telling Prince Min that Rekiya is a monster. Do these people know who Rekiya is?
Do you think Min told his Mum what happened that day?

"My Lady, Princess Rekiya–"

"Who is your Princess?"

The maid before Barbra shrank away to the ground even more, as if she could get any smaller than her body. Lady Barbra threw the fresh from fire hot tea in her hand towards the maid before her.

"My Lady!!!" She yelped in pain, as the side of her face burned very quickly, but no one told her to keep her mouth shut immediately.

"Next time, think before you speak. You poisoned my tea with that name. What is it? Speak!"
