The Ajele. You want to know the Ajele? I agree you are also as curious as I was when I found out they exist. The Ajele are known to be the most Powerful and smallest of the three Kingdoms. Many said they are not humans even though they are just as good looking and live like every other Kingdoms. It is said that no one sees the heart of a man, but I will say no one sees the heart of an Ajele to know how tremendous the evil that resides in their hearts can be.
The fear of their own unique wickedness was the beginning of their separation.
Few who could not stand being manipulated and tortured by the ones who seem to have more power than they do fled the Kingdom. If you have ever seen a caged bird whose door was opened after many years, you will understand how these set of Ajele never looked back again.
It was said that many Ajele fell in love with humans. Lived with them. Hid their powers and built new families. It was also said that the children they gave birth to lived just like a normal human being and does not posses their power. That means, the Ajele accepted to be different that they fantasize living a normal life with someone who has no strange powers as they do.
Power that makes the powerful ones among them kill at the snap of their fingers.
Power that had become a mystery to other Kingdoms and villagers around them.
Whether they act like human or not, they seem different. They cannot be easily killed because of their power and magical ways of using sword. They seem undefeated whenever they go to war. The Ajele are born with a power that the other Kingdoms don't understand.
Because of this, no kingdom or never did I hear of a village entertain an Ajele. But somehow they found their way around humans. They probably sneaked their way in and hid all their powers. But I heard that only Ajabi, the terrible and most dangerous King Akugba once had killed the Ajele like a butcher and gave their bodies away for wild animals to feed.
They feared Ajabi.
They feared Akugba.
But would they ever forgive Ajabi for killing them without mercy.
Till today exist a sword used by Ajabi. No one can tell what this sword was made of, but can say how powerful and mighty the sword had been during his reign. It was his only sword. No war he went to that his sword failed him or was he ever defeated.
As I write, it was said everyone who tried to run away with Ajabi's sword because of its praises and exceptional power died a mystery death just like the owner.
The Ajele. The Ajele still live in our midst, and are the most terrible and dangerous set of human among the three Kingdoms. Infact, after Ajabi's death, they were said to have flooded Akugba that normal Akugba people carried the rumor of magic spreading. If I ever meet an Ajele, I will run for my dear life because will an Ajele ever forgive Akugba for Ajabi killing almost a whole generation. I heard a book was written about how Ajabi killed them and boasted of being powerful than them. Imagine an Ajele reading that. They will definitely grow up hating on Akugba.
Do you think they will revenge on Akugba?
How do one even recognise an Ajele?
"Your Highness."
Slowly, Prince Dermin closed the book in the middle of the book he was holding. The History of Ajele. Written by a Scholar who feared an Ajele can pick up this book. Prince Dermin then finally closed the book beneath the book he was reading. The Prince who pleases his mother. He recognised the voice too well that he could never ever have mistaken it for anyone.
Prince Dermin who had the habit of putting one hand at the back while reading turned very slowly and exchanged his hands. One holding The history of Ajele behind him. One showing the woman before him The Prince who pleases his mother.
"Mother," the Crown Prince looked up at his Mother, the Queen whose suspicious eyes became relaxed upon seeing her son. She had come because she sensed someone ran to the library, but all her doubts were gone when she met her Son's right hand at the entrance of the library. Whenever the Crown Prince came to the library, Thopar would always be at the door. Therefore she thought no one would have escaped through the door.
The Queen's relaxed face became so affectionate and a smile took over her face. "Mother has only come to say hi," she lied, . "I am pleased to know you are doing well and has fully recovered." The Queen approached the Crown Prince, her right hand rested on his left cheek looking at her son with so much love. "Nobody will be able to hurt you Min. You are next in line to your father and you will become the most memorable King Akugba ever had," she paused and dropped her hand. "But never forget you owe me a favour, and when you become the King of Akugba, you must grant me this wish. Cause Min, Mother never got here on her own."
There was a sudden pause.
The silence lingered for few seconds. Prince Min staring at her Mother. Unable to return the affection his Mother was giving him.
It was as if he never knew who his Mother was. Gone are the days he thought his mother loved him so much. Gone are the the days he thought being the Crown Prince would give him freedom. But instead brought him pain and he clearly understood his mother's selfish interest.
Prince Dermin stepped forward. He was as tall as his mother, but his body overshadowed hers. His eyes were fixed on her, his stare showing he wasn't pleased with his mother for a reason unknown to her, but also showed little affection for she was still his mother. "Mother, you have to stop," the Crown Prince's voice was calm but firm, his masculine voice exercising more authority on his mother. "Whatever you are doing, I need you to stop."
The Queen was quiet. She raised her perfect shaped eye brow gazing at her son. She wanted to ask him stop what? because he was starting to piss her off. She wanted to ask him to explain what he meant but her countenance changed too quickly, suddenly not hiding her annoyance. "You should be the one to stop." Her voice came out a bit louder as if she had been waiting to tell him that. "Stop! Stop!" She said not catching her breath. "Stop acting weak. Don't be like your father. Don't just stand there! So stop!" The Queen yelled, her eyes were on fire as if she had wanted to scold the Crown Prince for a very long time.
The Queen looked directly into the Crown Prince's eyes. "I'm never going to stop whatever it will take to protect you."
"Protect me? Or protect yourself, mother?" Prince Dermin rolled his eyes. At this point he knew whatever his mother was doing wasn't for him as she claimed.
The Queen's eyes were suddenly at alert, searching her son's eyes. She was beginning to question whom her son was growing into. One, he had become so cold, and now...
Prince Dermin remained calm. He could have balled his hand into a fist to ease his nerves, but he also couldn't reveal the book he had behind him. He stepped back from his mother instead.
"I hope you know that the most memorable King Akugba ever had remains Ajabi. The man who killed his family for the throne. Including his mother who got in his way."
The Queen had gotten very angry and was refraining herself from yelling. "Your Highness, watch what you say." The Queen's face bore an expression that anyone could tell she was greatly annoyed. Even with her own son. "You think you and your brother including I will survive if Barbra takes the throne for her son!" She ended up yelling.
Though the rest of her words came out with her soft voice, it did more damage she never expected. "You are just a weak boy like your father was when he was growing up, but of course, he never had a mother like you have. My son--"
She didn't finish her words.
She didn't get to.
The loud noise which happened all of a sudden took the Queen by shock that it made her stagger. The horror look on her face could make someone give up the ghost if she was seen at night. "Der...what..." the shock seem not have left the Queen's body that she began to stammer, staring at the fuming Crown Prince she had never seen since she was called his mother.
A whole shelf filled with books had made it to the ground, hard. The Crown Prince had forcefully pushed it down in anger. He had taken his anger out on the old shelf as much as he tried not to. He hated to be called weak. And coming from his own mother he was trying to warn and protect aroused his fury that he couldn't spare himself another second holding his anger in.
"Min!" The Queen gaped at the Crown Prince unable to absorb the shock that almost made her pass out. The shelf. The old shelf. The Queen had no doubt that it would take two strong men. Very strong men to bring down the giant shelf that had been in existence even before she came to the palace.
Prince Dermin grabbed his mother's hand who was yet to recover from her shock. "I would have answered if you asked me what I meant for you to stop, Mother." His voice was calm, but his eyes wasn't leaving the Queen as he dropped her hand. "Mother, for the last time, stop. Or may be you can tell me who you truly are."
May be you can tell me who you truly are
Who you truly are!
Who are you, Mother?
That was the only thing the Queen could pick up from the Crown Prince sentences. It was as if her son had asked her a direct question.
Instantly, the shock on the Queen's face stayed frozen. As if the blood flowing in her body suddenly stopped, the Queen turned pale. Anyone could tell fear had slipped into those eyes. Her eyes were wide open but she was crumbing apart inside. Could it be the Crown Prince was the one in the room? Could it be he was the one? No! No! She wouldn't accept that. Even when she had all the reasons to, she still didn't.
Her strange reaction shocked the Crown Prince instead. "Your Highness, I'm your mother. That is who I'm truly are. Your Mother, the Queen of Akugba Kingdom."
