Chapter Nineteen: Saving the Crown Prince I

You are reading The Birth of Rekiya ❤️

Meeting someone who looked a bit like her was something Rekiya found extremely hard to take off her mind. She wanted to tell her mother. If she did, Mother would know she left the palace. Mother would definitely find out everything and she didn't want that to happen.

Keeping quiet would save her from getting scolded, and she would have to find a way to go back and find the girl. How could someone who isn't related to her look like her that way? A lot kept running through her mind.

Today, Rekiya had woken up early, avoiding her Mother so as not to spill what she saw outside the palace. She made it look like she had been around the palace, hanging out with Aliya. As she stepped out of their palace, she remembered Yasmine telling her to come to the Crown Prince palace early the first day she went.

What would the Crown Prince be doing? Bathing? Still in bed? Dressing? Rekiya went for the first option. Her feet dragged the hallway behind her, intentionally slowing down to take forever because she wasn't sure how to save the Prince Dermin despite being warned by her mother.

"Do you know you will take your life if you are caught?" The voice echoed into Rekiya's ears. She was close to the Crown Prince bathing room, but hurriedly stepped back, hiding. As much as the words came out in a whisper to who the person was saying it to, Rekiya's ears were Instantly active. Actively listening. Despite being as small as a mouse.

"Everything moron! Pour everything. This time he wouldn't be able to lift his body."

"For me, he should stay mute for life."

Rekiya heard the response that followed. She could understand what was going on by what was being discussed. But why? Why are they hurting him? Why are they harming him? Rekiya thought, but there was no one to provide an answer for her. Not even her own mother who would only speak about death.

On her toes, Rekiya walked with her back, carefully, gently, even holding onto her breath. Any sound from her would only put her in danger. She could die like mother always told her. The moment the air kissed her sweaty face, Rekiya took to her heels, sprinting towards nowhere. She just wanted to get away, far away from the scene and not to get caught by those maids. Of course, she knew they had access to Prince Dermin's bathing room because they served him. Judging by the second person's response, they hated him. She did too.

"Are you alright?"

Who dared to touch her? No one touches the Royal until they are instructed to. It was now she realised she didn't know where her legs took her to. After enough breathing exercise, Rekiya raised her head, staring at another person she never knew lived inside the palace. A place full of new faces every day. Her hair was messy. She tied her hair with an old piece of cloth. Her long skirt was wet, but her blouse was soaked, dripping of water and extremely rough. Her face could have cheated her into the Crown Princess selection, but the scar on her left cheek seemed not to have fully healed. Her face looked tired, and looked like she hadn't had her bath for two days.

Her gentle aura made Rekiya pause. She could tell by her clothing. She was another maid with lowest ranking from the unregarded maids in the palace. They were the set of servants who did the most dirtiest works in the palace.

Rekiya raised her brows at her. "You don't know me?"

"I can tell you are wealthy my Lady. I had just entered the palace two days ago. I come from Jigar village here in Akugba. My father has debts to pay, and a saviour in the palace secured this job for me to help my father. I barely have time to see what the palace looks like."

Rekiya felt for her. She must have been working without rest for looking so unkept. Rekiya finally took a look at her surroundings. The heat she was feeling wasn't just because she ran. The pool next to her was smoking hot. It wasn't just ordinary water. The two short maids filling the pool had beads of sweats on their forehead. Lifting the heavy container as they poured the hot water that had them moaning in pain. Around it, there were another four maids filling the other pool tank with cold water. This was the first time Rekiya would see where the hot water and the cold water she bathed with for years was fetched from. Some maids fetched from the well, doing all kinds before the four maids would bring it over to the tank. The processing scared her.

Rekiya turned to the girl who possibly couldn't be older than her. "Can I borrow you for a few minutes my Lady?"

The girl's eyes widened, dropping her bucket of water as she bowed before Rekiya quickly. "My Lady, call me Tia. I would love to help you, but–"

"So please help me." Rekiya didn't bother to listen to the rest of what Tia had said. She bent closer to Tia's left ear and whispered into it. When Tia came back, Rekiya took the clothes in her hands and changed into it, looking like one of the palace maids. She picked the bucket Tia brought with her as the two headed towards the fetching ground.
