Chapter nine: Rekiya

The Birth of Rekiya: The little devil.

Rekiya kept throwing quick glances at her mother here and there, but no word was spoken to her. Ruki had refused to talk to Rekiya. The room was dead quiet, the maids quickly finding their way out so as not to say anything that might got Ruki angrier. They all knew Rekiya had gone to the neglected garden the moment they couldn't get hold of her. They couldn't wrap their fingers to why Rekiya loved going to the place.

"Rekima, mother is not talking to me again." Rekiya said for the tenth time to her elder sister, Rekima who was helping her change into another dress.

"Rekima, I just went for some fresh air. I was sincerely going to come back quickly."

"Rekima, how do I make mother happy?"

When Rekiya didn't get any response, she suddenly felt all alone. Everyone wasn't talking to her. Did mother now hate her? She looked up at her sister with her eyes almost getting teary. "Rekima…I will not go again, I promise." The tears rolled down too quickly before Rekima knew what was going on. Her sister was breathing so heavily as she cried. "I'm…so…sorry," she cried.

Rekima hugged Rekiya, smiling "Anyone that sees us now will think I'm flogging you. They will not see how I changed you from your dirty, smelly jungle wear to a new dress. Rekiya see the way you are crying."

Rekiya hugged Rekima even more tightly, then she laughed at her sister's response. "Mother, Rekima is beating me." Rekiya half yelled, laughing.

Rekima laughed so hard. "Let's go and meet mother. Once you smile at her, mother will forget everything."

Rekiya followed Rekima, but of course, she knew she couldn't smile yet. And her eyes were slightly showing she had cried. Rekima joined Rekiya who was already on her knees. "Mother," Rekima said to Ruki whose mind was long gone. Everything on Ruki's mind was if the Crown Prince was going to really keep what he had saw to himself or speak to someone that will tell someone, and tell someone, that will tell the Queen, and tell the King.

"Mother!" Rekima yelled this time.

Ruki lifted her head from where she had placed it. Now that she finally heard her name, she looked down at her children without a word. Then she placed her head back.

"Mother, Rekiya has come to ask for your forgiveness. She promised me that never will she disobey mother again and go to that jungle. But Rekiya, what if anything bites you. Why am I just thinking of that!" Rekima said so seriously, facing Rekiya who was trying not to smile at her sister's seriousness. She understood everything was just acting.

"Now you see why I'm always worried. Now you see." They finally got Ruki's attention who was now sitting upright. "But Rekima, why do you beg for her all the time when you are to tell mother to scold your stubborn sister. Are you telling me you still don't know Rekiya."

"Mother." Rekima brought Rekiya's hand and held it. "As her sister, you have taught me to protect her. No matter what I hear about her outside, I still need to protect her first. Because of that, I should protect her even from you mother."

Ruki chuckled. What was she listening to? She didn't know when she started laughing. Her own daughters were ganging up against her. "You are both my daughters. Me. Your mother." She laughed so hard.

"Yayy!!! Mother has laughed." Rekiya got up from her knees and hugged Ruki as if she was seeing Ruki after several years. Then she reached higher, kissing her mother's cheeks. "Rekima, you can still beg mother for me in case she's yet to change her mind. Please don't stand up yet. I will kiss mother and come back." Immediately, Rekiya after kissing Ruki's face came down, but Ruki reached for Rekima's hand to get up, and told Rekiya to sit on her lap, while Rekima rested her head on Ruki's shoulder.

"I don't trust Rekiya with you anymore, Rekima. You didn't even ask me what she did," Ruki said, speaking in a calm tone which she loved using when speaking to her daughters.

Rekima, thinking she knew it all was about to tell Ruki not to worry, but instead…"Okay, mother what has she done this time?" She changed her mind.

"She used her power on the Crown Prince."

"What!" Rekima's two hands flew to her mouth. Her head resting on Ruki's shoulder was now brought towards Rekiya, staring at her. Rekiya didn't tell her that. Rekima was sure that dumb prince was telling everyone by now what he had saw. "Mother he would have been telling everyone. What are we going to do?" Rekima had gotten up, almost reaching the entrance. "Mother we must do something."

"Rekima he didn't even say anything. And if he did, I will just make him disappear forever." Rekiya boasted.

Rekima was back to her calm self when she was told the Crown Prince never said anything to the Queen. She really hoped Rekiya would grow up and stop messing around so as not to put them in trouble. Rekima was ten years old just like the Crown Prince, and knew exactly what happened when caught for doing something wrong. "Mother, have you even told her? She can't act that way towards him."

"Who?" Rekiya looked in between her mother and her sister. "Is there anything that Rekima knows that I don't know mother?"

When Ruki explained to her how she was going to start serving the Crown Prince once she was thirteen, she screamed.

"Mother! How would father do that to me? How can he tell you to allow me to serve the Crown Prince? So once I'm thirteen, I will have to move to the Crown Prince place? After then, I will never see mother and Rekima again. But I'm a princess mother. I should be serving and not serving someone. There won't be anyone to look out for me and hug me again. Mother are you tired of me?" Rekiya was starting to cry as she hugged Ruki. She couldn't believe she was going to leave her family. "But why?" She cried.

Ruki laughed. "My daughter, who said you will be living with the Crown Prince?"

Rekiya's face came up to her mother and Rekima laughed.

Ruki wiped Rekiya's tears with her fingers. "My daughter, you will only go in the morning, and come back to the house at night. If you choose to let our maids follow you in the morning, they will, but at night they must bring you back. I wouldn't allow you to walk alone in the palace at night. And…" Ruki smiled.

"Mother now." Rekiya was back to her happy self.

"You won't be doing anything my daughter. You will just feed your eyes, but Rekiya learn well so by the time you are asked to do any of it, you will. And he wouldn't have to complain about you to the King, so you won't be replaced for now. So Rekiya, watch how to dress the Prince when his maids are doing it. Learn everything you need to learn about him in case you will be helping one day. But, don't you dare lay your hands on anything dirty like washing his clothes, running errands, cleaning his place. Don't you!"

Rekiya smiled seeing her mother's expression. "You don't trust me mother. I don't even like him. I hope I will not end up poisoning him."

"Abomination!" Ruki shouted in her Gabatha way of speaking, covering Rekiya's mouth before jumping up. She instantly looked around. Hope no one heard Rekiya? Hope no maid was around her chamber? As much as her maids listened to her, Ruki knew some of them worked for the Queen. And some of them from Barbra, reporting everything happening to her and her daughters to them. As long as she didn't have a son, she didn't pose a threat to them, so they were safe, but with what Rekiya just said, if this was reported to the Queen, they would be long dead.

"Don't you ever say that again Rekiya. Do you want to have me and your sister killed! The Crown Prince you saw today is the most powerful one in and outside the palace after the King and the Queen. And he's the next King after your father. If you ever offend him, you will get us killed."

"I'm sorry mother," Rekiya said, looking remorseful. Now wishing she had never said that. "Please don't jump like that again mother. You will hurt yourself. And I will never get you and Rekima killed because I love you all so much. If anything ever happens, I will also die mother. I will just die."

Rekima chuckled. "Don't say that again. I will be here for you. Mother will be here too. Nobody is going to die."

"The gods will never allow that to happen." Ruki added, and hugged Rekiya. "My little devil."

Rekima laughed, getting up. "Mother, next time, say our little devil. I'm going through worse."

Everyone laughed.
