Chapter Five: She's home
The Birth of Rekiya: Welcome home my daughter.
When Agbobi looked down upon Rekiya, he was instantly filled with love for her. Agbobi smiled back at Rekiya whose toothless mouth never stopped smiling at him. Agbobi wondered what manner of child smiled this beautiful. Somehow, Agbobi felt really connected to Rekiya. He had never seen such a beauty in his Kingdom. Even all the chiefs commented on how she was going to grow into a beautiful woman.
But who could be so heartless to dump this beautiful baby by the bush. Who? Agbobi thought.
"Yaayyyyyyyyyy!!!!" The King played with the baby in his hands. He threw the naked Rekiya up, and immediately all the chiefs fell in love with her laughter.
The King returned Rekiya back to Ruki. "Because this child has brought me joy, and laughter. For I found peace around her, today she has become a princess and should be called Princess of peace. If what has transpired today get out of here, my chiefs, I will hold you all responsible."
"Never! I agree Your Majesty. Her presence has brought us plenty plenty good news." It was the Chief of Welfare, whose skin was shinning like that of the King. Even though the King knew he was welfaring himself and his family, he kept it a secret because he believed his chiefs loved him so much and he wouldn't want to offend them.
"My King." It was the Minister for finance. Even all other chiefs knew his ministering to keep the Kingdom's money made every member of his family one of the richest in the Kingdom, yet the King turned a blind eye because money was in excess in the Kingdom of Akugba. "You are truly one of a kind my King," he said, "may you live long Your Majesty."
"May you live long Your Majesty!" The rest of the chiefs chorused.
Ruki who didn't know how to express her gratitude remained on her kneels. Of course, she wanted the King to accept Rekiya, but she never thought the King would make Rekiya a princess. Smiles burst out from her stomach, revealing how excited she was. Oh Reba, your baby is now a princess. Everyone loves her. I promise to protect her with my life. I'm sorry you will miss watching her grow, but anytime you ever meet again, she will tell you how much she is loved by me. Ruki bowed her head before the King. "Thank you my King. Thank you."
"My Lady, I have seen your love for this child. Because you have my interest at heart, I name you the mother of this child. She shall grow up in your arms. She shall call you mother. Nobody shall ever be able to treat her badly because I the King would be her father starting from today. My heart has shown nothing but love to this child. Your child. Our child."
Suddenly, Ruki shouted in awe of what the King had done for her niece, now her child, and now a princess. "Long live! Long live! Long live the King!"
"Long live the King!" The Chiefs chorused after her as they all bowed before Agbobi. The Only King that forgave his Chiefs over and over again. His heart was full of love for them and the people of his Kingdom.
"My King, you would like my suggestion." One of the Chiefs known as one the descendants of Tiger stunned Ruki with his laughter, for ever since she knew him, he always looked like an unhappy man, but today he laughed. "My King you see, if this child's aura has brought you nothing but good news and make you smile so big today, don't you think you should bestow her to the Prince to bring him good luck." He finished with a laugh.
"No your Majesty! My King, your chiefs have suddenly mistaken your kindness. They need maximum rest from all that their stomachs have consumed." Ruki scoffed at the hungry chiefs. She would not let her niece be the Kingdom's property, and be caught up in their greedy fight for peace. She wished the King could open his eyes to see how cunning, deceitful, liars, thieves these Chiefs had always been. "My King, this child is weak, and I'm afraid she might never serve the Prince well."
Agbobi laughed. Of course, Ruki was his woman, and he knew her well enough by observing her. "My Lady has really started her motherly duties. You see my Lady, the chiefs know so well that a girl whose background is unknown can never marry a prince." The King said to Ruki. "What he meant was, when the princess of peace is of age, she shall learn to serve the Prince to be in charge of everything the Prince wants. This will make the Prince achieve everything he wants before he becomes a married man, and our princess can get married too."
"My King has said it all." The one who brought up the suggestion added.
Then the chiefs laughed so hard.
Anger surged from Ruki's eyes, that she imagined herself unsheathing her sword, slicing the necks of all the chiefs. Of course, it wouldn't take her up to a minute as many of them could fall to the ground just by laying a finger on them. Ruki cursed them. Foolish thieves. Why couldn't they think of their own daughters staying by the side of the Prince? They wouldn't because the Queen's son is not the Prince they want on the throne. They are just waiting for the perfect time to go against the King. And here they sat laughing with the King who covered up all their sins. Thieves. Ungrateful beings. How dare you people gamble with my child's life. She's still unsafe you idiots, now she's being kept by the side of a prince whose life could be cut shut any day. Wicked souls.
Ruki tried again. "Your Majesty…"
Agbobi cut her off immediately. "I agree with my chiefs. Don't worry my Lady, I will protect her. Now leave and take care of your child. My maids will bring you plenty of gifts and money for your new child. Take care of her well. She's now a princess. Now go."
Ruki gave up. "Thank you your Majesty."
If this was their plan towards her child, Ruki promised to protect her child from the snare of fowler called the chiefs of Akugba, who are worse than the bite of a snake. Including the King whom she never trusted since she entered the palace. Cause for everyone who ever takes the throne, they are worse than the Devil's judge.
Ruki smiled down at Rekiya as she almost entered her chamber. "Welcome home my daughter."
