The Queen.

She was experiencing the three stages of grief in just a few seconds. Fear. Heartache. Headache. Unstable breathing. Weak knees. Shaky hands.

More words could be used to describe what the Queen was going through, but she was stunned. Completely stunned. Again, one of their own has been killed by their people. Her mouth gaped open as her dear friend who had come to warn her fell to the ground and got his skin shredded instantly to bones.

A long queue appeared at the Queen's doorstep when she almost brought down her own palace. Unbelievable eyes stared down at the bones of Hakum. Strange. And then to the Queen whose eyes look haunted. Almost freezing to death despite the warmth in her room. How suddenly Hakum's death came was choking her to the brim of her chest as she pressed her hands on her gagged face.

This was enough to tell the Queen whoever the Olori was, he was ready to drop anyone. Drop anyone dead. The moment you are considered to be no longer useful, this was what he resulted to. Take you out. Kill you. Drop you dead.

The Queen set out of her palace in a hurry.  Her maids filed in a long queue right behind her. Thunderous steps fill the hallway of the majestic palace.  The Queen’s vigorous steps didn’t scream her Majesty. It instead screams a Lady held by fear of losing her life. Walking hastily, her shabby footsteps getting her plenty of attention she requested not. She looked more like a Lady haunted down the palace and was running for her life. Her noisy and heavy steps moved forward aimlessly. Her pace was unsteady and soon began to race down the extremely cold palace, freezing and gnashing her teeth as she ran.

Her pop eyes questioned the almost frozen guards who saw her appear.

“Where is she?” The Queen barked before she saw the sight near her. The cold breeze caressed her skin instantly and she staggered to the back. Her knees were beyond weak. Immediately supported by her maids when they saw the Queen could barely stand on her own. This can’t be. She was shaking again as if she had been under the cold weather for days. Her mind yelling profusely. Hakum was right after all. “Where is she or are you all deaf? Where is Barbra!” She raged. Her voice sent cold shivers down their bodies, trembling in fear of losing their lives too.

Instantly, all the guards went on their knees.

This was exactly what they met when they suddenly saw the strange arrow too. They were explaining when the King came in with his guards. Agbobi's presence made everyone almost wish they were swallowed by the ground rather than experience the punishment awaiting them for not watching and protecting the King's woman.

“What is going on?” The King demanded unable to look at the sight before him twice. He wasn’t facing anyone but his Queen now. When she raised her head, he saw fear and shock written all over her face.

“What is the matter? Who has done this to Barbra?”

The Queen was puzzled. In between revealing the whole truth to the man before her for his support or finding a way to help herself. Her eyes stared back at the King who had shown her nothing but love, trust and kindness. Right now, her heart bears nothing but pain. Her heart was weighed down with a heavy burden.  She felt she had been stabbed right in the back. About to be dropped dead. She had come too far to lose it all. And she would not. She was not ready to lose it all. She chose to keep things to herself and bowed before King Agbobi. “Your Majesty, I have kept Barbra alive as I do not have the intention to take away the mother of your children. This came to me as a shock. Who could have done this to you, Your Majesty?”

While the Queen was before the King, her quick-witted mind went out to someone else and immediately she excused herself from the scene, her maids ran behind her back just as she did.

“You will tell me where the Crown Prince has gone to this instant! Where is he or I will send your corpse to your father? Thopar, speak!”

Thopar went flat on the floor. The Queen’s voice had paralysed his thoughts that he was beginning to shiver at her presence. Thopar met the Queen running out of her palace by the time he got to her. He didn’t know what was going on with the Queen and wasn’t sure whether to confess where the Crown Prince had gone or not. The Crown Prince had not mentioned to him not to tell his mother, but would he want that? He had known the Crown Prince to hide things from his own mother.

The Queen knocked down the board the Crown Prince used for painting in anger. She tore all the paintings her maids were retrieving in the room to pieces. When she saw hers, the Queen was moved to tears. She was in pure agony not knowing where her son was. He might act somehow towards her, but he was his mother after all and he loved her still. Not knowing how to protect him broke her into deep tears.  She needed to protect him. She needed to save her son. Wherever he was, she knew he wasn’t safe. One, she knew Barbra wasn’t the one who died. That was a sign that she had been saved. By her own people.

What next?

The Crown Prince will be killed for Barbra's son to take his position.

Stuttering sounds that came from the Queen moved the people around her. The sadness in her voice felt as if she was gasping for breath. “Thopar, I shall shred you into pieces for you should be reborn as a woman to live the misery of a mother. Will you not tell me where my son is.”

“Rekiya, your Majesty! The Crown Prince set out to save Rekiya.”

The atmosphere suddenly became heavy. As if the air of Akugba was held by someone to suffocate the Queen.

The Queen inhaled deeply as if a sharpening blade had struck her from behind, her breath pleading to be released. She was numb with shock.

Her son had been sent into the den of the lions.

In ten minutes, heavy steps of horses raced out of the palace. The chances of trampling anyone who got in their way to death were so high that everyone who saw the Queen and her soldiers coming ran for their lives. The Queen's face was masked with pain as her heart burned with intensity to catch up with her fears.

The Crown Prince was their last puzzle.

Her son was their last puzzle to solve. She needed to save him. Min, mother is coming. Her tears broke free again. Just wait. Mother is coming to save you. Overtaking the soldiers before her, the Queen gave her all with her horse.

In a twinkle of an eye.

Almost. From nowhere.

A flaming arrow, shot with restless anger hit a loyal solder who overtook the Queen. He received the enraged arrow that penetrated and made it out of his body. Blood splashed everywhere as the body flared up in fire.
