Maeve walked down to the lab to look for her friends. She hadn't seen them yet that day.

As she approached the lab, she could see something on the floor. It looked like - no.

A body?

As she moved closer, the body became three. it was Adam, Bree, and Chase, collapsed on the ground, seemingly unconscious.

Maeve's steps slowed as she felt her heart stop in her chest. All she could look at was her friends, lying helpless on the ground. Until two black boots stepped into view.

"Don't act like you didn't know I would come back," a deep voice boomed. And without even looking, Maeve knew who it was.

Her father grabbed her by the shoulders. "And now, it's your turn to die."

Maeve yelled out, but there was no use. Her father lifted her off the ground with one hand, and in the other, began to generate a huge ball of electricity. She shut her eyes in fear as the humming of the lightning grew louder, louder...

Her eyes snapped open. Maeve stared out at the lab, perfectly normal. She looked out from her capsule to find Adam, Bree, and Chase sleeping peacefully in their own capsules.

Still shaking, Maeve took a step out of her capsule, careful not to wake the others. She headed upstairs to make some hot chocolate while she relayed the events of her dream in her mind.

She hadn't had a nightmare like that for a while, not since she joined the team. Sure, she had been under stress lately, but why all of a sudden? Why now? Was it a premonition of sorts?

No way. Maeve tried to shake the thought as she took a sip of her hot chocolate. There was no way... they were safe in the lab.

But-

"Maeve?" A soft voice asked, interrupting her thoughts.

Maeve looked over to see Chase standing sleepily in the doorway, his hair slightly ruffled. Her nerves dissipated somewhat.

"Hey, Chasey."

"What are you doing?" He slowly shuffled up to her, standing by her side.

"Couldn't sleep. I'm sorry, did I wake you up?"

"No, I-" Chase shook his head. "I woke up and you weren't there, and..."

Maeve sighed as Chase took the seat next to her.

"I can't stop thinking about... my dad."

Chase paused. "What about him?"

"I don't know. I'm really scared he's gonna do something. To me, to you guys."

"Maeve," Chase traced her back gently. "I didn't know you were worrying."

"I thought I was just being irrational, but I don't know. He's dangerous," Maeve frowned.

"I know," said Chase. "But... Mr. Davenport's on it. He designed this lab with a state-of-the-art security system. Even if your dad does come back, we're protected in here."

"You're right," Maeve sighed. "I'm just scared."

She leaned her head on his shoulder.

"We're all here with you, Maeve. You don't have to fight him alone anymore."

Maeve paused before leaning closer to hug Chase. No matter what she was thinking, she always felt a bit safer around him.

He wrapped his arms around her. "I got you," he whispered.

Maybe he was right. Maybe her dad wouldn't even come back. Maybe the security system was enough to protect them. Maybe it would all be fine.

But Maeve wasn't so sure.

-

Adam, Bree, Chase, and Leo examined a shiny, new motorcycle in the lab.

"So, what do you think?" Donald asked, walking into the lab in an ugly leather suit.

"I think you're begging for a gang of bikers to do rotten things to you," Chase answered.

"Are those my pants?" Bree exclaimed in horror.

Donald smirked. "Not anymore."

Bree mimed vomiting and Maeve grimaced.

Donald stepped over to the motorcycle. "I call it a Daven-cycle. She's got autopilot, laser-guided weapon systems, and a tiny little flower vase to brighten your day!"

They watched as he took an orange flower from his jacket pocket and placed it on the motorcycle.

"Woah, cool!" Adam grinned. "Throw in a tiny basket for Chase to ride in and we're good to go!"

Suddenly, the computer screen on the wall glitched. The group turned to it as a face appeared on it.

Douglas' face.

Douglas waved frantically towards the camera. "Hello, anybody home?"

"He hacked you again?!" Leo exclaimed. "Would it kill you to spend $40 on some security software?"

"Love the new lab, Donnie," Douglas grinned. "Ooh, tunnels! Industrial, yet classy."

"Take a hint, ex-brother," Donald frowned. "There's a reason why none of us accepted your buddy requests."

"Oh, I accepted it," Adam laughed.

Chase, Bree, and Leo looked at him in shock.

"Actually... me too," Maeve grimaced apologetically.

"What? His updates are hilarious!" Adam said. "Looking forward to a weekend of evil, winky-face!"

"Listen, I don't have a lot of time," Douglas said. "Krane will be back soon. He went out to get his head waxed."

"Fascinating. You know what, it might sound like I'm hanging up," Donald said, reaching to end the call.

"Wait! Wait, wait, wait!" Douglas yelled. "This isn't another trick! You're in danger! Krane has completely lost it!"

"Wow," Chase breathed in fake shock. "The guy who keeps implanting himself with bionics is unstable? Who could've seen that coming?"

"I'm serious! Krane is using my technology to give himself new abilities I didn't even know were possible. He's a ticking time bomb and he sees you four as a threat!"

"Hey!" Leo exclaimed. "What about me? I'm dangerous."

"Yeah, there's always a chance you might faint on somebody," Douglas nodded slowly.

"Look," said Donald. "Adam, Bree, Chase, Maeve... and Leo... can handle anything. And after all you've done to this family, why should we trust you?"

"Well, I..." Douglas trailed off, thinking. "Give me a minute!"

"Take all the time you want," said Donald.

"Oh, thanks, I-" Douglas was cut off by Donald shutting off the computer.

Donald shook his head. "Douglas is up to something. He's obviously trying to distract us with this Krane guy."

"Well, maybe so, but what if he's telling the truth?" Chase asked.

Bree nodded. "Yeah. We've seen Krane face-to-face. He's a total creep."

"Yeah," Adam agreed. "Nice eyes, though."

"Trust me, this is exactly what Douglas wants," said Donald. "Don't fall for his trap. My brother is the real threat."

"No," Maeve suddenly spoke. "He's being serious. I can tell."

Donald smirked. "No offense, Maeve, but I think I can tell better than you when my brother is lying."

"I know he's hurt you, but I think he's telling the truth this time.

"I'm with Maeve," Chase said. "Krane is dangerous. Maybe we should be taking this seriously.

Donald rolled his eyes. "Look, guys, I've taken care of you your whole lives. I know what's best."

Donald strolled out of the lab.

Maeve turned to her friends. "Why won't he listen?"

"I don't know," frowned Bree. "But we should really keep an eye out."

"For what?" Adam asked. "Ooh, you mean for that new student? Yeah, he does not seem trustworthy."

"No, Adam, for-" Chase began, then rolled his eyes. "Oh, forget it."

-

The next morning, Maeve and her friends hung out in the lab.

"Good news," Donald said, walking into the lab.

"We're kicking Chase off the team?" Adam asked excitedly.

"No," said Donald. "Until I figure out what's going on with Douglas, nobody's going to school."

Adam, Bree, and Maeve smiled.

"No way!" Chase groaned. "I'm gonna miss my chemistry test!"

Maeve pursed her lips and patted Chase's shoulder.

"Nerdiest sentence ever," said Bree.

"Well, Leo already left," Adam told Donald.

"I sent Tasha to pick him up," Donald replied. "In the meantime, we have a new state-of-the-art of the art security fence, capable of withstanding any threat. Even bionic ones. Behold! The-"

"Wait, let me guess!" Bree interjected. "The Daven-fence!"

Donald scoffed. "No, that's lame. This is the new cyber security perimeter Daven-wall! I control it remotely from my wrist."

Donald clicked a button on his watch and a blue screen flashed over the lab entrance.

"Lab security perimeter engaged," the computer beeped.

"Woah," Adam breathed.

"Yeah," Donald grinned. "And this little baby can only be turned on and off using my own personal thumb print."

"Mr. Davenport," said Chase, "I applaud your efforts, but I could easily break out of this thing by using my fingerprint recognition app."

"Uh, actually, you can't," Donald smiled. "I removed my fingerprints from your database. But, I can come and go any time I want by wearing this watch!"

"But, wait," Adam interjected. "What if you lose the remote? We'll be stuck in here forever."

"I'm not gonna lose the remote," said Donald, exasperated.

"But what if it runs out of batteries?" Adam asked.

"It doesn't use batteries."

"What if you lose your thumbs?!"

"I'm not gonna lose my thumbs!" Donald exclaimed before leaving.

Adam paused. "Just because he says it confidently does not mean it can't happen."

Through the rest of the day, they waited, having nothing to do without school.

They sat in the lab - Bree braiding Maeve's hair, Maeve looking over Chase's shoulder to read his book with him, and Adam throwing stuff at the security fence.

"Awesome!" Adam exclaimed as his shoe was blasted backwards by the fence. "Let's see, what else can I throw?"

Adam looked slyly at Chase.

"Don't even think about it," said Chase, not looking up from his book.

Donald walked through the fence, seemingly upset. "Something's wrong. Leo just left a message that Douglas showed up at school, and now I can't find him or Tasha."

"Oh," said Bree, "well, I'm sure we'll find them if you keep us locked down here in the basement!"

Suddenly, a computer screen on the wall began to flash with static before switching to a video.

A live security camera feed of Tasha and Leo tied together in some underground lair, yelling for help.

"I knew it," said Donald. "Douglas has them."

Krane stepped into the camera's view. "Guess again."

Maeve's heart dropped, and she instinctively tensed. Chase placed a gentle hand on her arm.

"Guys, don't worry," said Chase. "We'll get you out of there."

"Chase, don't make promises you can't keep!" Adam whisper-screamed. Chase looked back at him, annoyed.

"So you're Victor Krane," said Donald. "Love the face. Do you get all the premium channels on that thing, or...?"

"Enough," Krane growled. "Hand over the bionic kids."

Donald scoffed. "Not gonna happen."

"This isn't a game. I've sent you my coordinates. They have ten minutes to get here... or I downsize your family."

And with that, Krane cut off the video feed. Adam, Bree, and Chase moved over to the lab desk.

"I got him," said Chase, looking at an iPad. "He's at the corner of Prescott and Maple."

"Ooh, nice neighborhood! Crime does pay," Adam grinned.

"Let's go," Bree said.

"No!" Exclaimed Donald. "There's too many unknowns with this Krane guy. This one I do alone."

Adam snorted.

"You?" Chase said.

"Yes, me!" Donald frowned.

"Aw," cooed Adam. "It's so cute when he gets all macho."

"Okay, no offense, but if this guy's too dangerous for us, then how are you gonna beat him?" Chase asked.

"Yeah," added Maeve. "He is way too dangerous for you."

"Well, I have this." Donald raised his wrist, revealing some metal device. "My thermal blaster. Trust me, you do not wanna be on the wrong end of this baby. This is the most powerful weapon I've ever created. It's like carrying around a lightning bolt. It will fry Krane's circuits for good."

"Or you can wear your motorcycle outfit and he'll die of laughter," Adam said.

"Look, Mr. Davenport," Chase said, shaking his head. "You can't go alone. Krane is a powerhouse. He's the toughest enemy we've ever faced."

"And without my speed, you'll never make it," Bree added.

"My Daven-cycle will get me there in plenty of time. I'll have Leo and Tasha home by dinner," Donald responded.

"Okay," said Adam, "but if you're not back by 6:30, we're eating without you."

Donald rolled his eyes and left.

"There's no way he's gonna survive this. We have to go help him," Maeve said.

"I know, but how? We can't get through the security fence," said Chase.

Bree frowned. "Can't you figure something out? We can't let him go alone!"

Chase sighed, thinking. "Maybe I could try to hack in."

-

A little later, Chase laid on his side, trying to rewire the motherboard.

"Hurry!" Bree exclaimed. "We have to get out of here and help them!"

"I'm trying," said Chase. "I hacked through the encryption, but it won't let me go any further without a fingerprint!"

"Ooh, I have a fingerprint!" Adam held up his finger.

Chase sighed in exasperation. "I meant Mr. Davenport's."

"Why would I have Mr. Davenport's fingerprint? Think, Chase, think!"

"Hey," interrupted Maeve, looking at the desk. "Isn't that his coffee mug?"

"Ah, good one!" Adam nodded. "Let's have a cup of joe and talk about the good old days while Chase figures it out!"

Chase stopped Adam. "Maeve's right. I can use my fingerprint recognition app to pull this thumbprint from the cup. Then we can shut down the perimeter."

"Okay, but if that doesn't work, I got twelve of these bad boys, and odds are, one of them's bound to do something," Adam said, wiggling his fingers.

After Chase disabled the perimeter, they quickly went to their capsules to suit up.

"Come on, let's get outta here," said Bree.

As the four ran to the lab exit, they were interrupted by a sudden appearance. Krane stood in front of them, looming as they stumbled backwards.

"Not so fast," Krane smirked.

"Quick, turn the fence back on!" Adam whispered to Chase.

Krane circled around them. "So, how would you like your lives to end?"

"Living on Mars. I accidentally take off my helmet," answered Adam. "Get him!"

Adam began to use his heat vision, but Krane lifted his hands to control the fire and blast it backwards.

Bree supersped to grab the iPad. "Later, freak," she said, clicking a button. The floor tile Krane was standing on suddenly sank deep into the ground, his screams fading away.

Until he leapt back onto the main floor, laughing maniacally.

Maeve shot blasts of fire at him, hoping it would work... but Krane only lifted his hands and absorbed the energy. Maeve stumbled backwards and could only watch as her father generated an energy blast, knocking her back into the wall.

"Maeve!" Adam exclaimed. He ran and tackled Krane into the hole from the floor tile while Chase and Bree helped Maeve up.

Maeve cradled her pounding head, trying to focus on Krane despite the ringing in her ears.

They stood as they heard the sounds of Adam and Krane fighting deep below the floor, causing the entire lab to shake.

Adam leapt up. "Got him!"

Chase quickly closed the floor tile again, trapping Krane underground - but he simply geo-leaped back to the lab.

"Never mind," Adam exclaimed. "Get him!"

As they rushed forward, Krane raised his arms, lifting the four bionic kids into the air before slamming them back onto the ground.

Krane laughed. "Well, this has been fun. But all good things must come to an end!"

Krane generated a huge ball of energy and fire between his hands.

But before he could strike, he was hit with some sort of blast and fell onto the ground, groaning.

Adam, Bree, Chase, and Maeve all looked up to see none other than Douglas standing in the door of the lab, holding a huge laser gun.

"Hi, kids. Good to see ya," Douglas grinned, pointing the laser gun back at Krane.

Krane slowly stood up. "I thought I finished you."

"Yeah, that's what I wanted you to think," replied Douglas. "I'm getting pretty good at faking my own death."

"Good luck faking your way around this!" Krane blasted Douglas with blue lightning, causing him to collapse.

"Kids," Douglas groaned in agony. "You might wanna leave for this next part."

Krane lifted his arms once again, generating yet another ball of fire and energy. He yelled, throwing the ball at Douglas - but before it hit him, Chase dove onto the ground and formed a force field. The ball struck the force field and bounced back onto Krane, knocking him down.

"Dude," Adam exclaimed. "You finally did something!"

Douglas stood up and ran over to Krane with his laser gun. "I should have done this a long time ago."

Suddenly, Donald, Leo, and Tasha ran into the lab.

"Guys!" Donald shouted.

In the split second Douglas looked away, Krane geo-leaped, disappearing into the air.

"Oh, no! You-" Douglas yelled angrily. "You let him get away!"

Donald raised his own laser device at Douglas. "Get out of my house."

Douglas backed away, setting the gun down and raising his hands in surrender.

"No, Mr. Davenport, it's okay," said Chase. "Douglas saved us from Krane!"

"Saved you?" Donald echoed. "He's the reason we're having to fight Krane in the first place."

"Don, I can explain," started Douglas.

"You're lucky I'm letting you go," glared Donald. "Now get out of here before I change my mind!"

No one moved.

"Hey, if you're gonna blast him, can you get it over with?" Adam asked Donald. "Cause this is getting really uncomfortable."

Douglas frowned and walked out. For some reason, Maeve felt a pang of guilt. He helped them. And even when she still worked with her father, Douglas had never been too mean to her.

But it's not like she could try to convince Donald. She already felt bad enough for all she had done to hurt them. Maybe it was better to just let this one go...

-

The next day, Maeve, Adam, Bree, and Chase stood in the hallway and watched Donald work in the lab.

"Hey, what are you guys doing?" Donald asked.

"Safely watching you from outside the cyber perimeter that we just turned on," Bree smirked.

"Ahh, I see," said Donald. "This is revenge for me trapping you in the lab."

"Nah, the real revenge will happen when you touch the fence. We upped the voltage," replied Adam. "I should know, I touched it three times."

Donald's face dropped.

"Yep, and then we upped it again," Chase grinned. "The slightest contact will short-circuit the entire house. And leave you hairless. Enjoy!"

Chase and Adam walked off.

"I get it. You guys want me to think it's on, but it's not really on," said Donald.

"Whatever you need to tell yourself," Maeve shrugged.

"Of course, you would expect me to think it's not on, therefore it may actually be on."

"It's a real possibility, isn't it? Bye-bye!" Bree smiled and walked away with Maeve.

They could still hear Donald calling from the lab. "But only a fool would think it's on, and I am no fool. I'm a genius. So there is absolutely no way that this thing is on."

As the four began to head upstairs, they heard Donald's high-pitched scream as the electricity in the house short-circuited. Unable to stifle their laughter, they hurried upstairs.
