A few days had passed since the Davenports found out about Maeve, and it was honestly a whirlwind. Donald built a new capsule for Maeve to sleep right alongside Adam, Bree, and Chase. She could tell Donald was beginning to warm up to her, as were Adam and Tasha. While it made her happy to see them starting to like her, Maeve missed Bree.

Bree and Leo were still quite on edge around her. Leo continued his suspicious act from when they first met. Maeve had grown used to his antics and was beginning to find joy in them. Bree, however, was a different story. Bree did not talk to Maeve, and when she did, it was extremely cold and short.

And the worst part was that Maeve knew there was nothing she could do about it. It was her fault, after all. Maeve pretended to be Bree's friend. Maeve kidnapped them. Maeve ruined everything. It was all her. And while Chase assured her that Bree would come around, Maeve wasn't so sure.

She tried to focus on other things. She was able to go back to school, which added some much-needed routine to her days. On this particular school day, Maeve walked through the foyer of the school with Chase and Leo.

"And then he said I wasn't allowed to go to the bathroom because it would interrupt his class!" Leo complained. "I swear, Mr. Brown is getting more snappy each day."

"Maybe it's because you do interrupt his class," Maeve said. Chase laughed.

Maeve continued, smiling. "Nah, I'm kidding. I'm sorry, Leo."

Leo rolled his eyes with a hint of playfulness. "Why do you care?"

"Leo, stop with the act," Chase scoffed, teasing.

"Nah, he's justified," Maeve told Chase.

"Morning, germ sacks!" a voice said into a microphone. It was none other than the wonderful Principal Perry. "I know that you've all been complaining that the technology around here isn't quite-" Perry paused as the microphone glitched. She hit it against her hand, causing loud, high-pitched feedback throughout the room. The students groaned and covered their ears. Chase winced, shutting his eyes tightly, his hands flying up to protect his ears.

Perry chuckled as the feedback stopped. "...state of the art," she continued. "So, thanks to yours truly, we're getting cutting-edge equipment for the whole school to enjoy! Jojo, Betty! Let's go, ladies! Wheel it like it's hot!"

At Perry's call, two lunch ladies wheeled in something large covered with a blue sheet.

Perry gestured to the object. "Behold, Mission Creek High's brand new media center!" One of the lunch ladies tugged the sheet off, revealing a dusty, small, vintage-looking television. The students scoffed.

"I don't think you can call it technology if you have to change the channel with pliers," said Leo.

"Why do I smell formaldehyde?" asked Chase.

"Cause I found it on a curb outside the morgue," Perry answered. Maeve's jaw dropped as she exchanged glances with Chase.

Perry continued. "I'm getting all my Christmas presents there, too. Aunt Dottie's getting sheets!"

Chase rolled his eyes. "How is this thing new?!"

"New to you, lady-face," Perry replied. Chase stepped back, confused.

"Okay, let's fire up the media center!" Perry grabbed a remote and clicked a button. The TV turned on for a split second before sparking and shutting off, taking out all of the school's power with it. The students stood in the dark, watching smoke rise from the ancient TV.

"Okay, okay," said Perry, "Minor setback. For the record, you all look much better in this light."

-

That afternoon, Maeve sat in the lab in between Chase and Leo as they worked on homework.

"Guys, read what's on page 47 of your history book," Chase said.

"I lost mine months ago," Maeve said.

"I don't have a page 47," replied Leo, flipping through his textbook. "I have a four, a twelve, a thirty-two, and what I hope is gum on ninety-eight."

Chase scoffed. "This book is so old. Listen to this. Chapter four: 'Horseless carriages taking over the streets of America.'"

"Other schools teach on laptops and tablets. We're reading from textbooks that warn us the British are coming!" Leo said.

"Real," said Maeve. "The most modern chapter of my environmental science textbook was questioning if maybe deforestation is bad for the environment."

"We need to do something to bring Mission Creek High to the 21st century."

"Ooh, maybe I can help!" Donald suddenly walked in.

"No!" Chase and Leo exclaimed. Maeve looked at them.

"What?!" Donald asked. "I am a genius tech mogul! I could revolutionize your whole school. Why wouldn't you want me to help?"

"Because," Leo answered, "Every time you try to help, it starts in a good place, but then your ego takes over and ruins everything."

"That is not true. Give me one example!" said Donald.

"Last week, you gave me a new backpack."

"You said you needed a backpack."

"A backpack. Not this." Leo picked up a white and black backpack with a large image of Donald's face on it. The word "Davenpack" was written across the center. Maeve's jaw dropped as she looked at Chase, who seemed to be used to it.

Donald frowned. "All the guys in the office love theirs."

"Trust me," said Leo, "They don't."

Chase sighed. "You don't get it. This is our school you're talking about."

"Yeah, we'll have to live with whatever disaster you create every day," said Maeve.

Donald stared at her. "I will kick you out."

Maeve backed up a step and Chase glared at his father.

Donald continued. "Guys, I promise I won't embarrass you. This is about your school, not about me."

"Well..." Chase said. "Our school could really use the help."

"Fine. But you keep that ego under control," Leo told Donald.

"Don't worry," Donald replied. "My ego is officially checked." As he walked away, his phone rang with a custom ringtone of himself singing his own theme song. Chase, Leo, and Maeve stared in horror.

"Did you... write a theme song for yourself?" Maeve asked.

"What? Come on, that's just catchy."

As Donald left, Maeve turned to Chase. "You really think he'll be able to keep his ego out of it?"

"...No," said Chase. "But our school needs anything it can get at this point."

"This is true," Maeve said, rising from her seat. "I'm gonna go get a soda."

Maeve headed upstairs into the kitchen where Bree was sitting on her phone. When Bree saw her, she quickly looked back down again.

"...Hey, Bree," Maeve said, kind of nervous.

"Hey," Bree said, eyes locked on her phone.

"Uh," Maeve tried to think of what to say. "How are things going with Owen?"

Bree rolled her eyes and stood up to leave.

"No, Bree, wait," Maeve frowned, stepping over to her. "Is it gonna be like this forever?"

Bree sighed. "What do you want me to say, Maeve? You lied to me. I thought I finally had a real friend, but it turns out it was all fake. Douglas probably forced you to pretend to be my friend."

"Bree, no, it wasn't like that," Maeve pleaded. "I mean, yeah, he told... Marcus and I to become friends with you guys, but I never faked anything."

"Save it, Maeve." Bree frowned and exited the room, leaving Maeve standing still.

-

The next morning, Chase, Maeve, and Leo walked through a school filled with new technology. Donald walked up to them.

"Hey, guys, check it out! Electronic bulletin boards, tablets instead of textbooks... and this is the coolest part!" Donald led them over to Leo's locker. "Check it out. By the end of today,  I will have fingerprint scanners on all of the lockers."

Chase grinned excitedly. Maeve smiled. He was cute when he was happy.

"We were gonna do retinal scanning, but it turns out eyeballs are highly flammable," Donald explained. Maeve and Leo winced. Donald grabbed Leo's hand, pressing his finger against the fingerprint scanner. The scanner beeped, flashing green before opening.

"Hello, Leo Dooley," the locker spoke in an automated voice.

"So?" Donald asked. "What do you think?"

"I think it's gonna be a lot harder to get out of when someone locks me inside," Leo responded. Donald rolled his eyes.

Chase smiled. "I gotta hand it to you, Mr. Davenport. This is amazing."

"See? I told you it would be great!"

Suddenly, robotic noises came from the end of the foyer. Maeve and her friends looked over to see a silver, robotic Principal Perry.

Leo gasped. "Ooh, and I see you gave Principal Perry a makeover! I especially love what you did to her face."

"Zip it, Dooley," spoke the robot.

Maeve grabbed Chase's shirt and turned to Donald. "Wha- how can you just turn someone into a robot?"

"That's not Principal Perry," said Donald, frowning. "That's Robo Perry! She's a robot!"

"And she's beautiful!" exclaimed the real Principal Perry, emerging from her office to hug and kiss her robot self.

Leo clapped his hands over his eyes. "Make it stop!"

Donald sighed. "Anyway, I designed Robo Perry so she could roam the halls, handing out detentions while-"

"I'm on a three-hour lunch break!" Finished Perry, giggling. "Or lurking elsewhere."

Chase turned to Donald. "How could you do this?"

"Simple," replied Donald. "I, uh, took the foundations of a robot I built for private security, and I repurposed the software. And then, of course, I matched her vocal pattern. It wasn't easy matching the sounds of a gravel truck unloading with a bear in labor, but I got it!"

Maeve scoffed. "Robots are horrible for the environment. Did you even take that into consideration when you built her?"

Chase nodded in agreement with Maeve.

"I hardly think one robot will have that much of an effect," said Donald.

"I always wanted a super cute twin sister," gushed Principal Perry. "I'm gonna buy us matching bikinis!"

"And I'm gonna gouge my eyes out!" Leo smiled in shock.

"Zip it, Dooley!" Perry and Robo Perry snapped simultaneously.

"Thanks, Don!" Perry tried to hug Donald. He backed away.

"You're welcome. Yeah," he smiled.

Chase led Donald and his friends away from the Perries. "Why would you make another Perry?" he asked.

"Principal Perry said if I make her life easier, she's gonna name a wing of the school after me!" Donald laughed.

"You sold us out just to have your name above a doorway?!" asked Maeve.

"Once again, your ego takes over and ruins everything," said Leo.

"Hey," said Donald, "If my name on this school brings more prestige and funding because I'm so awesome, that's a win-win-win! That's three wins! That's a Daven-win!"

"Oh my god," Maeve muttered.

"I'm gonna go. I'll catch you guys later." Donald left.

When it was time for lunch, Chase, Maeve, and Leo headed to the cafeteria as always.

"Maeve!" A voice hissed. It was this girl, Caroline. She grabbed Maeve's arm and glanced at Leo and Chase. "What are you doing with... them? You know, their dad is the one who made that robot."

"Oh, uh-"

Caroline shook her head. "Come sit with us."

"I'm good, Caroline, thanks."

Chase, Leo, and Maeve went into the foyer to eat their lunch.

"Keep it up, Chip Parker, and you will be in detention forever, you - searching database for insult - mouth-breather," Robo Perry suddenly said, dragging a student out of a classroom by the arm.

"Great. Everybody at school hates us," said Chase.

"Us?" Maeve echoed, shifting slightly away from him and Leo.

Chase stared at her.

"Kidding," she smiled playfully.

"Hey," Donald said, walking up to them. "How come you guys aren't eating in the Davenporteria?"

"Funny thing," replied Chase, "When your dad creates an even worse version of the worst principal ever, kids tend to turn on you."

A student slapped Chase's lunch out of his hands.

"Look, don't worry," Donald said, as Maeve reached to give Chase half her sandwich. He smiled at her.

"I'm sure this will all blow over once kids get used to Robo Perry," continued Donald. "Remember when you first met Leo? You couldn't stand him!"

Maeve stifled a laugh as Leo looked at Chase in horror. Chase smiled nervously back at him, searching for an explanation.

"Good luck getting out of this one, Chasey." Maeve ruffled his hair and stood up, packing her lunch to move to her next class.

-

During her next class, Maeve went into the hallway to use the bathroom. Oddly enough, she saw Chase and Leo standing by the stairs, watching Robo Perry charge.

"What are you guys doing?" Maeve asked. Leo and Chase jumped.

"We're getting rid of Robo Perry," said Leo."

"The school board is coming after school. They want to put a Robo Perry in every school in the district," Chase said. Maeve grimaced

"I just need to find out where Mr. Davenport put her control panel." Chase raised his fingers to the side of his head, scanning Robo Perry. Suddenly, he groaned, lifting up Robo Perry's arm to reveal her armpit. "Hundreds. Hundreds of places to choose from and he puts it there."

Leo patted Chase's back. "Have fun."

Chase frowned and opened the control panel, revealing a screen with blue lines running down it. "She's a robot. How does she sweat?"

Chase used a screwdriver to press a few buttons on the control panel before backing away. "There we go. Instead of seeing Robo Perry patrolling the halls, the school board will see this."

Chase pressed a button on Robo Perry's back and she immediately stood up and began dancing. Electronic music played from her speakers.

Suddenly, Donald screamed from behind them. "What did you guys do to her?"

"Tapped into her control panel and adjusted the settings," answered Chase. "You messed with us, now it's payback time."

"No, no, no! Robo Perry's original programming was for military patrol. If any unauthorized user tampers with it, it resets to its factory default!" Donald exclaimed.

"So rest her date and time. Big deal," Chase said.

"The factory default is 'search and destroy'!"

"Why would you build that?!" Maeve hissed.

Donald rolled his eyes, angered. "Now it's locked in and I can't stop it!" When he turned around, Robo Perry was staring him down, eyes glowing red.

"Threat detected," Robo Perry spoke, grabbing Donald's arms. "Destroy." She threw him against the lockers.

"Now that's what you call a Daven-splat," Leo grimaced. Chase and Maeve laughed before moving over to help Donald up.

"Out of my way, space-wasters." Robo Perry threw a trash can across the foyer.

"We've got to stop her before she destroys the whole school!" Donald said.

"I think we can divert her attention and lure her into that empty classroom," said Chase. "We just need some bait."

Chase, Maeve, and Donald slowly turned their heads towards Leo.

"I get it," Leo sighed, patting Maeve's back. "Good luck in there, blondie. Hope you make it out alive."

Chase glared at Leo until Leo understood.

"Me?" Leo exclaimed. "Why me?!"

"Well, because, you're..." Chase stammered.

"...Brave?" Leo offered.

"Yes," Donald and Maeve agreed. "Very brave."

Leo smiled proudly. "Alright, I'll do it." He waved his hand and whispered, "Hey, Robo Perry, over here!"

"Oh, get over there!" Donald shoved him over to Robo Perry.

"Hey, over here, buds and bolts!" Leo exclaimed nervously.

"Tiny threat detected," spoke Robo Perry.

"Okay, I am too big to be tiny, and too tiny to be a threat," Leo said. Robo Perry began to chase him into the empty classroom. Chase, Donald, and Maeve listened as they heard Robo Perry beating Leo up.

"Aim for the bolts!" Donald called. Leo slid quickly out of the classroom, kicking Robo Perry back in. Maeve generated a gust of wind, slamming the door shut behind the robot.

"Leo, are you okay?!" Chase asked.

"I've seen some things," Leo replied, eyes wide, shaken.

Donald and Chase held the door shut while Robo Perry destroyed the classroom.

"How could you guys do this to me?" Donald asked.

"We had to," Chase answered. "You doubled the Perry, which doubled our pain."

"Pain?!" Leo cried. "You don't know pain! I am a damaged little boy!"

Maeve placed a hand on his shoulder.

"Look, maybe you guys are right. From now on, I will not let my ego get the better of me," said Donald. "Which shouldn't be hard, because I am so awesome at everything!"

At that moment, the real Perry walked into the foyer with a group of adults.

"Oh, great, the school board," Donald groaned.

"This demonstration will show that Mission Creek High is the school of the future," Perry was saying. She stopped when she saw Donald. "And there's the man who's 30% responsible for it, Donald Davenport!"

Maeve got up to help Chase hold the door closed as Donald walked over to the school board.

"Principal Perry," Donald said, chuckling nervously.

"What's the word, Donny Bird?" Perry replied. "Uh, where's Robo me?"

"Uh, she is, uh, supervising a parent-teacher conference," Donald answered. Loud crashes sounded from the classroom. "It's not going well."

"Well, get that beautiful hunk of metal out here!" Perry smiled. "I wanna show her off."

"Oh, why don't we just stay out here and look at that big, beautiful hunk of... you?" Donald offered.

Suddenly, Robo Perry ripped the door from its hinges. Maeve and Chase were thrown backwards from the force, crashing against the cold floor. Maeve half-landed on Chase, quickly rolling off of him.

"There she is!" Perry grinned. "Come give your sissy a kissy."

"Threat detected," spoke Robo Perry.

"Threat?" Perry questioned. "I'm no threat. What are you- what are you talking about?"

"Destroy. Destroy."

"Destroy me?" Perry laughed. "Oh, honey, many have tried. I don't think so."

Maeve and Chase watched as Perry and Robo Perry wrestled.

"Alright," grunted Perry, "I don't know what's going on, but you're going down, metal me!"

"No, you are going down, fleshy me," responded Robo Perry. The two Perries screamed and fought one another.

"We're not getting much of an education, but where else can you see this?" Leo smiled.

"Don! What's going on? I don't think I can hold her much longer!" Perry cried. "She's strong! You must have given her some of my unbridled rage!"

Eventually, Robo Perry won out, throwing Perry across the foyer. Bree and Adam ran in from the gym.

"Principal Perry!" A boy yelled in an Irish accent, running into the foyer in his gym clothes. "Principal Perry, you have to help me! Adam and-" upon seeing Robo Perry, the boy screamed. Robo Perry tossed him into the group of student board members.

"Oh," Adam gasped. "Now, she knows how to lift!"

"I see stars, and yellow moons, and green clovers," Irish boy said before passing out.

"Well, that settles that." Bree said to Adam. "He's definitely not bionic."

"Yep," Adam agreed. "But leprechaun is still on the table."

"Mr. Davenport, how are we gonna stop Robo Perry?" Chase asked.

"We don't have a choice," said Donald. "You're gonna have to use your bionics."

"You want us to expose ourselves in front of the school board?" Chase questioned.

"No, he wants us to use our bionics in front of the school board," Adam laughed, pointing at Chase. "This guy."

"Look, we have to do something! Robo Perry is gonna destroy the entire school!" Donald exclaimed. "Just do it!"

Chase, Maeve, Adam, and Bree stood next to one another, readying their stances. Maeve lifted her arms, preparing to fight, when suddenly-

Principal Perry screamed and tackled Robo Perry, ripping off her head. "There can be only one!"

"Still one too many," Leo whispered.
