CHAPTER 16

It was past midnight.

The corridors and hallways were dark, slightly illuminated by the little golden lights pitched against the walls at long intervals, making the portraits and pictures shine in their wan glow. The walls and balconies bathed in the rich moonlight, lashing in the regions without any restrictions. Silence had spread her gentle hands over the region, as it was lost in deep slumber. Not a being was in sight, no sound was heard, except the low chirping of the cricket and the ticking of the grand old clock downstairs. It was only silence, sombre gloom and...lone.

A figure walked down the corridor, languidly, in an indolent manner. It's footfalls echoed softly in the surrounding, adding a little more sound to the otherwise gloomy ambience. The figure walked on, in a pensive mood, until it reached a room. It quietly went in and locked the door behind him.

Hyunjin didn't care to switch on the lights of his room, as he went to his bed and sat at the edge. His mind felt void, as he threw his worn out body on his bed and closed his eyes. He couldn't think what to do next, when he got up once more and looked around. Soon, his eyes fell on his bedside drawer, especially the last chamber.

Hyunjin got up and crouched down on the floor and pulled that chamber by its handle. Inside it, there was only a big wooden brown box. He slowly took it out. Hyunjin couldn't help but smile as he opened the box, with utmost care.

Inside it, were all his relics of his merry boyhood and high school days. Little bits of toys, a small hand made teddy bear, a broken camera, small  and big pieces of paper bearing the artworks and scribbles of a little kid, nursery rhymes written on some. Broken crayons, used brushes, dry paint, colored papers small pencils littered the box. Hyunjin let his fingers stray through those treasures, his smiles knowing no bounds. Suddenly, he came across a small yellow envelop, which was nestled amidst all other stuffs. He quickly pulled it out and looked into it. He was amazed. It had all the pictures from his elementary school and high school days. Oh God! How he missed his friends and their never ending banters and utter nonsense. Hyunjin smiled from ear to ear as he saw all the bright, stupid faces of his long lost batchmates, until, he saw someone familiar.

Pictures of...Felix...taken by him.

Hyunjin carefully took out the pictures and traced them with his fingers. His lips trembled.

"Little Lix," he murmured softly, his eyes never leaving the pictures.

His hands shook.

Eyes moist.

He felt numb.

Memories flooded back to him.

"Oy...Hyunjin, here please."

A raven haired youth came running out of nowhere and neatly presented himself to the physical education teacher. He was an active, young and a really handsome lad.

"You called me, Sir?" He asked politely.

"Yes, boy. Now," The teacher quickly pointed at a boy sitting on a chair just close to him. Hyunjin gaze travelled to him. It was a fragile angel, he thought, beautiful and sweet, but in deep pain. The boy was clutching his knee, where a dark red wound had made its impact, as the scarlet fluid oozed out of it. The boy was in tears, and was shaking all over.

"I am too busy with the upcoming Basketball match practices. So, would you mind taking Felix to the school infirmary?"

Hyunjin was reluctant to go, he didn't want to miss his race. But, at the same time, he didn't want to disappoint his teacher. He was a model student after all.

"S-Sure Sir, don't you worry," he replied, as the teacher thanked him and walked away. Hyunjin slowly went to the hurt lad and kneeled in front of him. He wasn't sure what was wrong with him, but he felt...so weird. A feeling he gad never ever felt before. His heart throbbed wildly against his ribs, as he felt weak and loosing control of himself.

"Um...hey," he cleared his throat, grabbing the tearful boy's attention, "We...We must go to the doctor. I-I think you can't walk, so..."

With a great effort, Hyunjin finally succeeded in lifting the boy on his back and carrying him all the way to the school infirmary. He wouldn't lie, the boy wasn't heavy at all. On reaching the clinic, he entered and gently laid the boy on the bed.

"It-It hurts," the boy mewled in a low tone, his big doe eyes still glassy with tears.

"Shhh it's okay, the nurse will come soon," Hyunjin tried to comfort him. Within the next few minutes, the school nurse walked in, in her clean white uniform and her usual cheer.

"How were you hurt, Little Lix?" the nurse asked in a sweet tone, edging closer to the boy.

"S-Someone pushed me," Felix answered, crying a little.

"Bad boy," the nurse replied, as she started collecting the first aids. "Hyunjin," she said, "Please hold him tight. This might hurt him a bit."

Hyunjin didn't understand why a simple first aid would hurt someone but he did as he was told to. He quickly sat behind Felix, and held him tight, not too much, but to some extent. As the nurse started treating the injured boy with antiseptics, Felix shuddered and wept a little, but, in Hyunjin's grasp, he felt better. Soon, his treatment was over and he was free to go.

"Now, this is for being a good boy," the nurse said as she handed Felix a chocolate bar and left. Felix nibbled at the chocolate, as Hyunjin's gaze never left him.

"Is it still paining?" Hyunjin found himself asking him, as he knelt down in front of him. He didn't know what he was doing.

"A bit," Felix whispered.

"Um...tell me, how can I make it go?" Hyunjin asked softly. He desperately wanted to help the lad.

"Kiss it and make it good!"

Before Felix could realise what he had said, Hyunjin slowly brought his lips to the bandaged wound and softly kissed it.

"There," he smiled, "Who taught you this?"

"My Mumma," Felix chirped fondly, "Mumma used to say that 'kiss a wound and make it good'."

Felix smiled shyly, as he looked up at Hyunjin and for the first time, their eyes actually met. A moment, never to be forgotten. Beautiful, baby blue eyes locked perfectly with the bright mischievous green ones. A piece of a puzzle finally found his lost piece, Hyunjin felt, as if he was that one piece himself. Hands interlocked, they gazed into each other, as if they could do it forever, until,

"Lix babe, what happened?"

A boy bursted into the clinic, brown haired and handsome face, but worst behavior. As soon as he saw Felix, especially with Hyunjin at his feet, his anger knew no limits. He glared.

"Babe, c'mon, let's go," he tried to pull Felix away from the bed.

"B-But Jae, I-"

"He's hurt," Hyunjin tried to convince.

"You don't have to butt in, spoilt brat," the boy retorted sarcastically, "I'm his boyfriend and I know better. Now c'mon Lix."

The boy pulled him away from the place. Hyunjin felt his blood boiling, but still, he accepted what he saw. He didn't know whether he was really his boyfriend or not, but as he saw that Felix didn't protest, he didn't think much. He didn't want to think more. As long as his 'first love' was happy, he was.

"I hope we meet again, Little Lix."

"L-Little Lix," Hyunjin wept harder, feeling his heart break into two, as he brushed his lips against the photos in his hand.

"I-I s-still love you, my Little Lix."

He looked at his useless, broken camera and smiled.

"Thank you. Thank you so much for capturing all these memories."
