Chapter 18: Party 6-14-16
Noah had gotten away without his parents finding out about what had been doing for the past couple days, which was good. He was also trying to get out of the house as much as possible so he could hide the bruises all over his body. He had one on his face, left leg, and two on his left arms. They had all been from the boulder hopping and probably after the shark had landed. Other than that, he had no clue where they could have come from. But if his parents ever did ask about it, Noah would just tell them he was jumping on boulders at the beach and kept slipping. It wasn't really a lie, just the stretched truth.
His mom was a work this morning and had to work all day and his dad took off the day of his work because his car was having engine problems along with a flat tire. He wasn't good at fixing things either, he usually made things worse. So he had to bring his car into the car shop today. He had gotten it towed to the shop and the workers said Noah's dad could have his car back around 4' o clock that day. This had left his dad to wonder around town until then looking in different shops and stores.
He had asked if Noah wanted to join, but Noah decided to go to Doyle's house instead. He wasn't big about shopping and wondering around for no reason looking at different things in stores that he wouldn't buy anyway. His dad wasn't big about it either, but he had to since he had no car. So now Noah was walking to Doyle's house with his beach bag slung over his shoulder. Noah's dad had told him he would pick him up once the car was fixed, so he didn't have to walk all that way back home.
As soon as Noah opened the black gate around Doyle's front yard, Robin came running out of the front door of the house.
"Hi Noah! Are you feeling any better?"
"Better than ever!" Noah replied and walked to the house with her.
"Doyle said we can talk in his backyard. He brought some snacks and he said we can play in the pool too if we want too," Robin explained.
"Okay, sounds great! Good thing I have my swim suit in here," Noah said gesturing to his bag.
They walked out to the backyard and imminently saw Doyle sitting in a lawn chair in the shade sipping on a grape juice box. He waved at Noah and Robin. The rain had stopped and was only a little cloudy in the sky, but the water at the beach was still pretty high. Hopefully no other large creature got stuck in that area any time soon.
"Hi Noah! Feeling better?" asked Doyle.
"Fine, thanks Doyle!" Noah responded with a smile.
Robin laughed. She had asked that same question only minutes ago.
Noah sat down next to Doyle and examined all the food. He was hungry because he had skipped dinner last night and breakfast this morning. There was a basket of apples, chips and salsa, juice boxes, grapes, cookies, and biscuits. Next to the biscuits were 3 bowls. One with berry jam, one with sweet honey, and one with creamy, melted butter. Noah personally liked putting honey on his biscuits.
"This looks yummy! What's it all for?" Noah asked taking a handful of grapes and sitting down next to Doyle again.
"It's all here to celebrate you being a brave person, never giving up, and still being alive today to tell your story!" Doyle said happily, "And we can talk and swim in the pool too," he continued and pointed to the pool. It was a giant pool with a small waterfall, waterslide, and a diving board.
Noah had always wondered why people so close to the ocean owned pools, but now he realized it was for those times like this. When you wanted to get together with a small group of people and not have to hear the loudness of the crowds of people on the beach, not worry about getting stung by a sting ray, or get pestered by the seagulls, or pinched innocently by a crab.
"I just wanted to say this," Doyle started, "Thank you Noah for bringing me on this amazing mystery with you and not just doing it yourself. And I'm glad you are safe with us and we can go back to our normal lives. Even though this adventure was really fun,"
"And not to forget that you saved the shark Noah! With a little help from me though, not to forget," included Robin giving a good point.
"Thank you guys and I'm so glad to have done it with you and end up safe. And I couldn't have done it without you guys," Noah said and then popped a red grape in his mouth.
"Yah, you probably couldn't have done it without me," said Robin with a bright smile.
They all burst into laughter together and where so happy to be safely back together again.
"Want to swim?" Robin asked.
"Let's do it!" Noah and Doyle said at the same time.
They all got their swim gear on and then took turns jumping into the pool with a big splashes, like they had seen the shark do on the beach. Hopefully no other animal would need their help any time soon.
The End
