Chapter 2
The odd trio burst out of the doors, only to be met with a lone police officer guarding the cars parked outside the bar. "Hey! Stop-" Before the officer could finish and draw his weapon, Norman stepped forward and backhanded the poor man sending him across the street. "This way!" Edwin yelled over to Norman as he ran across the street, cars honking as the three of them kept moving.
"We need a place to crash, any ideas?" He said nearly out of breath. "There's an abandoned warehouse south of the docks, no one ever goes there. Wait... Don't you have a plan-"
"Now's really not the time Norman!" The giant rolled his eyes, and kept running. Being tired of keeping pace to a human he scooped Edwin up with both hands and holstered him over his shoulders. "Sorry Edith..." Norman muttered.
"I think I'm gonna be sick..." Edith said, holding a hand to her mouth over the sheer amount of handling from not only a human but a giant as well. At the much faster pace of a giant they arrived at the abandoned warehouse before dark. Norman kicked down the garage door where trucks came in and entered the building.
He gingerly placed Edwin down and promptly collapsed on the floor. The adrenaline finally exited his system allowing exhaustion to take over. Edwin followed suit, though did so much more carefully given the smaller passenger in his suit pocket. As soon as he laid down, Edith scrambled out of his pocket and ran to the wall and vomited.
Finally relieved, she went back to Edwin and used the sleeve of his shirt to wipe her mouth. "You did not just use my shirt as a napkin after you did that." He tried to sound threatening but it failed as he barely got his words out gasping for breath. Edith didn't even have a snarky response, simply opting to collapse into Edwin's hand to soak up it's warmth to fight against the warehouse's lack of insulation.
The next morning came and went, then early afternoon arrived before the trio finally began to wake up. Edith was the first, slowly stirring but then quickly scrambling out of his hand embarrassingly. Seeing as both were still asleep, she chose to wake up Edwin first. Edith took a step back from the hand and pulled out a spare knife.
She wound up her arm and threw the blade as hard as she could. Knife barely embedded itself into Edwin's middle finger. While not enough to draw blood it was enough to penetrate the skin and draw a surprised yelp from the human. He shot up and once his eyes laid on her, he shot the borrower a glare before snatching her in an enclosed fist. Though this barely phased her much to his annoyance.
"Was that really all that necessary?" He said curtly, to which she merely shrugged. "It was the most efficient way to get you up." Edwin opened his mouth to retort but quickly closed it, annoyed once more that she had a valid point. Rolling his eyes he let her down and walked over to Norman, now having to do the same task Edith did.
With much less grace than Edith he kicked Norman's hand. A strangled yelp emanated from Edwin as the hand moved to pin the human harshly against the ground. "Norman, Norman, Norman! Norman-" The giant slowly rose from his sleeping position, using his free hand to wipe his eyes. "What?" He said, looking around before his eyes landed on Edwin.
"Oh..." Norman waited a second before releasing his grip, not bothering to apologize. Edwin ignored the faint snicker from Edith and got up, dusting himself off. "So, what's next?" Norman asked. He was about to speak but stopped himself, instead starting to pace around the room aimlessly. The two stared at the human with bewildered expressions. "Well?" Edith finally broke the silence.
Edwin wore an embarrassed smile before speaking. "Well... I'm gonna be completely honest," He clasped his hands together. "I didn't think we'd get this far." With narrowed eyes Norman stood to his full height and loomed over Edwin, leaning in closer. "What." He said in a low tone that shook the human to its core.
"BOYS!" Edith shouted with as much authority and volume that came with her size. "One, Norman, sit. Back. Down." She pointed to the floor and the giant begrudgingly listened and did what he was told. "Two, Edwin, get me off the floor." Not wasting any time, Edwin strode over to Edith and quickly offered her a palm. To which she ignored and threw her hook onto the collar of his shirt and began climbing.
Once on his shoulder, Edwin stood up, and along with Norman waited for further instructions. "Right... Intimidating each other won't get us out of this shitty situation, so let's not do that. Got it?" The two reluctantly nodded to which Edith sighed in relief. "Okay, Edwin," She turned on his shoulder to face him. "Did you have any semblance of an idea of where we go after we get out of Lamport?"
He nodded. "Our only option is to go south, to Jersey City, it's one of the few port's that isn't under our boss's control. The only problem is transporting," Edwin looked to Norman with a sly grin who reciprocated with a hardened glare, daring him to make a remark about his size. "Norman."
She turned towards the giant. "Any ideas?" Unconsciously she put a hand on Edwin's neck and leaned on it, not being able to see the slightly widened eyes on his face. "Aye, the cargo trucks at the port are long enough for me to lie on. If we can steal one, it should have enough fuel to make the journey."
Edith nodded, remaining silent to allow an opening for Edwin to do his thing. "So," He started to slowly pace around the room. "We head to the docks, steal a big enough truck, get the hell out of dodge and run like hell for Jersey City..." Edwin stopped to face Norman, giving him and then Edith a half grin.
"What could possibly go wrong?"
