I looked at the paper in my hand for the twentieth time that evening. Nothing. I rubbed my forehead, frustrated. 'This is the third time they've sent me on a wild goose chase!' I thought angrily. The other two times were also about robberies; things that regular police could clearly handle. I set the note down on the dashboard of my car and turned the key in the ignition. The car, custom made as it was, started like a charm. That was the one good thing about being an agent: the perks. Fancy car, cool apartment, and plenty of extra cash. Not that I'm greedy, in fact, I like to save money, preferring economy to luxury. I eased my foot onto the brake as a red light came into view. Of course, as soon as I came to a full stop, it turned green. 'Typical,' I thought, 'just typical.' I floored the accelerator for a fraction of a second, just to blow off some steam, then thought, 'Settle down, Punz, you'll be on the freeway in just a moment.' Nice as my apartment was, it was in a quieter part of town; fewer cars zooming by, no crazy people yelling, no protest marches, just quiet peacefulness. I turned onto my exit, and, mercy of mercies, there were no pesky cops prowling the street. I checked the speed limit as I drove by. 60. Okay, not too bad. I sped up to 70 and rolled down my windows a tad, welcoming the cool night air. There were no other cars on the road now, and that made me happy.
A few minutes later, I pulled into the garage, parking in my usual spot just inside the building. Grabbing my purse and the irksome white paper, I headed to my rooms up on the third floor. 'Dumb paper. Dumb briefing. Dumb worthless assignment!' I chuckled. 'Lovely apartment.' I surveyed my living quarters with satisfaction. They were small, but not tiny, and they were immaculately clean. To my left as I walked in was my kitchen, complete with a knife rack, cupboards, and a dishwasher. Right in front of me was my "living room", with a comfy leather sofa, and a plain white wall in front of it. Above the sofa was a projector, which played DVDs, Blue ray, and hooked up with my cell as a bonus. I smiled again and walked to my room, to the right of the door. I looked around, then decided I would change in a minute. I flopped down on the queen sized bed, looking up at the ceiling, which was painted like a clear night sky.
I was having such an annoying day already, and then, to top it off, my phone buzzed ominously. I sighed and picked up. "Agent Goldsun here," I said, recognizing the number as my boss's.
"Goldsun," he said, "you have an assignment."
