This is the area between the city and the land bridge to Asia, which is now connected to Alaska. Most Bicentennials stick to the cracked roads on the way to the bridge, but some choose to stray from the beaten path, perhaps from stupidity or perhaps from the notion that they would have a better chance to survive this way.
