It was morning and she was not in her bed, not in her room, not in her house. The first thing she thought when she woke up was that the night before was a crazy nightmare, but it wasn't, and she realised it when she opened her eyes. She quickly pulled the covers off her and saw that she wasn't wearing her Spiderwoman costume, she was wearing white pyjamas and a strange bracelet. Startled she pulled down her trousers a little and saw that luckily she was wearing the underwear she had worn the night before, and it didn't hurt but just in case she put her hand down to make sure it was intact. What did hurt was her neck, from the bite she had taken.
"Calm down," said the same voice that tormented her the night before, coming closer and closer to her, "I didn't take advantage of you, I would never do that."
She quickly pulled up her pajama trousers and climbed up the wall until she reached the ceiling, to be as far away from him as possible. She could see where she was — in a huge, modern loft, with a style of decor she had never seen before. All the furniture was white. There were walls that were made of glass and you could see from inside that they were at a great height, you could see a big city, so she guessed she was in a penthouse. The strange thing was that there were no balconies or windows, no walls or doors separating the space, apart from built-in wardrobes and a door next to the bed that she assumed was a bathroom. He chose that flat for that reason, because there were no walls to give privacy apart from the bathroom, to keep an eye on her easily.
"How should I know!? You killed my ex and kidnapped me, it wouldn't be so weird, you fucking psycho asshole!"
He grimaced in annoyance but it passed, he didn't want her to see him upset, let alone angry.
"I'm not like that."
He approached her, wearing pyjamas just like hers and a mug in each hand, as well as bunny slippers that made him look ridiculous. He offered her a cup, but she, neither short nor lazy, decided to attack him by hitting him in the chest with her legs to knock him to the ground, making him grunt with hurt and anger, spilling all the liquids from the cups. In one leap she ended up on the glass wall, and assumed she would break it, but all she managed to do was to end up stuck to it as if she was a dart. She jumped hard and even punched, but all she managed to do was hurt herself.
"Calm down, would you?!" he asked angrily as he stood up and took off his T-shirt that had ended up completely stained from the drinks inside the cups he was holding before. Not only did she notice that he was indeed in very good shape, but he was still wearing that strange watch from the night before, the one he opened that orange portal with.
"Well, no, where am I?" She said as she climbed back up the roof and ended up in a corner of the flat, quite far away from him.
"You're in your new home, our home, in my dimension," he said as he went to the American-style kitchen to drop his T-shirt in the laundry basket, inaugurating it.
""Our home?" Yeah man sure," she laughed nervously, that and the idea of being in another dimension and not knowing how to get back to hers was stressing her out, "take me back."
"No," he said as he activated a robot to clean up the broken cups in the floor.
"Are you saying I'll stay here forever?"
"No, but most of the time," he said so calmly as he walked away from the floor space that was the kitchen.
"What about Barceyork? What about my friends and family?" she asked genuinely frightened at the thought of never seeing them again and leaving her city unprotected. It's not like the Avengers were going to patrol the city looking for bank robbers and muggers, they had 'better' things to do, orders from SHIELD. She was the friend and neighbour in town.
"I have the perfect substitute," he said, thinking of a certain blonde who had just fled her dimension because of her father, "and don't worry about the rest," he said, approaching her.
"How can I not worry? My mother just lost hers, if she loses me too...!"
"I know. You'll come back, but with my supervision."
"I have a life, and you expect me to trade it for you? For a meaningless kidnapping for me? You think you can keep me in this condition for long? I'm not a fucking cat or a plant! This is a kidnapping!"
"Meaningless? It makes all the sense in the world. Anyone would fall in love with you when they met you."
"But you don't know me, you crazy bastard!"
"Yes, I do."
"No, and if you love me so much, you'd let me go free."
"I can't, I must look after you and protect you."
"I can do it myself, thank you."
"No, you can't. Look at you. Do you know how many kilos you've lost since that asshole left you? 10. Going days without eating and drinking is not the healthiest thing in the world, you could die."
"Who are you? My mother?"
"No, your boyfriend. Now let's have breakfast."
"You aren't my boyfriend and I'm not hungry."
"Well, sure Derek isn't either anymore! And I'm capable of forcing food into your mouth if I have to."
"Dare."
"You know I'm capable."
"Oh, I don't doubt it, really," she said, climbing down from the roof and walking over to the bed where she had woken up, lying down again. "Leave me alone, please."
"If you eat I'll think about letting you out of here soon."
"How do I know I can trust you? You know me but I don't know you."
"I didn't take advantage of you last night, I could prove it to you with the security footage from the flat, does that help?"
She sighed and got out of bed slowly. She didn't even bother to ask about the security cameras, she wasn't surprised, it would be obvious that there would be.
"What is there?" She asked, referring to the breakfast food as she made her way to the kitchen table while he followed her.
"Croissants from a confectionery of your dimension."
"From Maite?"
"Yes."
He prepared her plate with a croissant while he made himself a cup of coffee again, and then sat down opposite her to watch her eat ridiculously slowly. Just chewing and swallowing was taking an enormous effort, as she tried to process everything that had happened and was happening.
"I talked with your mother for you," he said after taking a sip from his coffee cup and swallowing.
"What?!" she asked, confused and mostly surprised. He took out her mobile phone from his pocket and put it in front of her.
"I got on your WhatsApp with her and told her that you've found a job in the marketing department of Stark Industries," she quickly took it and got on the app and chat with her, and he was telling the truth, there were the messages, there was the conversation with her mother congratulating her and being happy for her for getting such a job, "that will justify you not being able to see her as much from now on. I've modified your mobile a bit so that you can send interdimensional messages. I'm a scientist," he informed her so that she would understand better how he could do that.
"And I guess you also hacked it for stalking me or something," she said, locking the screen and putting the phone aside on the table.
"Months ago," he said as she gave him a dirty look, leaning her elbow on the table and her head in her hand, while with the other she unwillingly picked up the croissant again to put it in her mouth, eating silently and with her head down.
"How...?" She didn't even dare to say it out loud, as if he were still alive and if she asked the question it would kill him.
"How what?" He asked raising an eyebrow.
"How did you...? He..."
"I've also brought your clothes and most of the things from your house, they're in one of the closets."
"Don't change the subject and tell me." She said angry.
"Why talk about him? What's dead is dead."
"I'm going to puke," she said, leaving what was left of the croissant on her plate, picking up her mobile and getting up from the stool she was sitting on to go and lie down on the bed. "At least tell me what you've done with the body, my God..."
"There's no body left."
She got into bed, pulled the sheet over her entire body and began to cry, trying not to make a sound, hoping that the annoyance of her now new flatmate and, according to him, boyfriend, would not bother her in any way and would leave her alone.
