iii. jackson lee? on time?
Bianca walked into class to find Jackson already sitting in the chair next to her. She blinked, thinking she was going crazy but he was there. She sat down next to him as the rest of the class staggered in.
"You're... On-time?" She asked in disbelief.
"I'm not always late." Jackson defended himself. He put his hand on his heart when Bianca raised an eyebrow. "Okay, maybe a little—"
"Jackson Lee? On-time? Never thought I'd see the day," Ajax teased as he walked through the door with Xavier. The raven- haired boy flipped him off.
"If I'm being honest, I didn't either. But I'm happy that you're seemingly ready to learn today!" Thornhill spoke up to them with a slight grin.
"Alright we get it, I'm always late. Blah, blah, blah. Oh, wait, I got you a drink." Jackson pulled out a sealed coffee cup.
Bianca looked at the label of the drink, "I don't drink coffee. It affects my vocal cords."
"And that's what Kent told me when I called him about it and he gave me your cafe order. One chamomile with a little sage honey." He handed her the second drink, taking the coffee for himself. She blinked, not realizing how seriously he would take the bet.
"Thank you..." She trailed off, taking a sip. It was her exact order and it tasted amazing.
"Not bad." She decided to reply. Jackson smiled as Wednesday looked around for a place to sit, not wanting to sit next to Xavier.
"There's an open spot next to me. If you can stand sitting that close to an elitist snob." Xavier mumbled to Wednesday as she hovered to find a place to sit. Bianca watched the two interact, and Jackson saw her face.
Xavier started to create his drawing of a spider which caused Jackson to fake a yawn and act bored. Bianca noticed and rolled her eyes with the smallest laugh.
"I doubt Wednesday is impressed by your tricks, Mr. Thorpe." Thornhill adjusted her glasses as she watched the spider. Jackson agreed with her under his breath.
"Admit it, you're a little impressed." Xavier turned to Wednesday. She eyed it for a moment before smacking it onto the table, the spider was now nothing but dust. The class giggled at Xavier's failure to show off.
"Wednesday, we're thrilled to have you join us on our journey into the world of carnivorous plants. Now... Who can tell us the name of this beauty?" Thornhill waved her hands towards a plant.
Bianca raised her hand to answer as Jackson gapped at the fact that she didn't wait to let her finish the question before raising her hand. He somehow knew all about teacher's etiquette.
"Dendrophylax lindenii," Wednesday responded without hesitation or raising her hand.
"Very good, Wednesday!" Thornhill gapped, "Looks like you may have competition for first chair, Bianca."
"Pssh. You got this." Jackson muttered to her. Bianca stared for a second before looking forward. Jackson took a sip of his coffee as he watched Bianca quietly fume.
"Wednesday, perhaps you can identify the ghost orchids' greatest qualities." The teacher nodded for her to respond.
"Resilience and adaptability," Wednesday answered coolly. Jackson turned to Bianca knowing she wanted to add something. "It's able to survive in the most hostile environment."
"But!" Jackson said loudly and then pointed to Bianca.
"But its mere presence can change the ecosystem, causing the established plants to reject it," Bianca added in.
"Usually because the native species is allowed to thrive unchecked... Nothing a weedwhacker wouldn't fix." Wednesday went on after Bianca.
"You can most certainly try." Bianca tilted her head.
"Are we still talking about flowers?" Xavier cut in between the two of them.
"Must you ruin such a great explanation of carnivorous plants?" Jackson asked him right afterward. Xavier threw his hands up as Jackson pointed at his eyes with two of his fingers and then at Xavier.
"Yes. Thank you, ladies. For those illuminating insights. Clearly, the plants aren't the only carnivores in class today." Bianca still glared before looking back.
As Thornhill went on with her lecture, he ripped up a piece of paper and quickly wrote something with his pen. He slid the paper to her as she looked at him confused. She opened the paper and looked at him in disbelief.
I cannot believe the new girl has called him an elitist snob, that's kind of funny. ~ J
She pulled out a pen from her pencil pouch and wrote something under where he wrote.
Stop distracting me.
When he received the note, he pursed his lips and nodded before writing his note.
Fine by me. Let's meet at my dorm at 6:30. You can't say no it's a part of the bet. DW, I can cook for us. :)
He shuffled the note back to her. He knew she had finished the note when he heard her huff. She wrote something simple before sliding it back to her.
Fine.
A knock was heard right on time. Jackson opened it, holding two cases of food.
Bianca eyed it, "Is it poisonous?"
"Yes. So addicting that no one can stop eating it. May I present to you, my home- famous chicken alfredo!" Jackson opened the top of the container to show it to her.
"Wow. It looks and smells appealing." She took her container as Jackson shut the door of his dorm.
"Alright, so what's your plan for the Poe cup?" Jackson sat on his bed Bianca sat on Kent's.
"How am I supposed to know you won't give it to anyone else?" Bianca shot back.
"Because I'm all in for this bet." He smiled at her.
"Me too. I got someone to replace Kent. He's gonna be on the side and he'll jump in to slow the others down." Bianca quietly explained.
"Smart. What's the spot? In case Kent gets high again before a race and gets lost, I can find him and show him the way." Jackson nodded. Bianca hesitantly nodded, pulling up a photo of the place on her phone where they heard someone clearing their throat.
It was the housemaster.
"Bianca... Take that necklace off and do your thing." He whisper yelled to her before covering his ears. Bianca mentally agreed with him, taking it off and telling him to go take a nap.
Jackson walked towards her and helped her put the necklace on after watching her struggle for a second.
"I'm gonna say, your power is so cool!" He gushed.
"You're just saying that." she rolled her eyes.
"I get that there are struggles, but that was one of the coolest things ever." He ranted again, now laying on his bed.
"I guess I should go so I don't get into trouble again..." Bianca trailed off.
Jackson smiled, "Goodnight, Barclay."
"Good night, Lee," She spoke coolly.
