Training: Day Two (Part 3)
Link's P.O.V.
"Come on. Let's go. We still have loads of time to kill."
I looked at (Y/N), still kind of scared of her. I've never been afraid of anything before, but this girl scared the living daylights out of me.
When I heard her say, "We still have loads of time to kill," I was thinking something else.
"You mean you have me to kill."
I stood there while (Y/N) started walking to a board next to the stables.
"Come on, Link. Let's go."
She waved for me to come over and I hesitantly walked to her side. I made sure to stand a couple of feet away in case she somehow reverted back to who knows what she was earlier.
"Okay, let's see," she started as she skimmed the board for a mission.
"I told you if it ended in a draw we'd skip training and do the easy missions. So..." she said as she continued to look at missions.
"Seriously. How is she not phased by what happened earlier. Maybe I should ask her about it..."
"Hey, (Y/N)--"
She cut me off.
"Perfect. I found just the right mission for us. It's over at Romani Ranch. Get a horse from the stable and let's go."
"Actually, I have a horse of my own," I told her.
"Oh do you now? Let's see it."
"Okay then," I told her as I took out my ocarina and played Epona's song. Literally, in a blink of an eye, Epona was right in front of us. Usually it would've taken a few minutes but considering that I had hidden Epona behind the stables, she appeared very quickly.
(Y/N)'s P.O.V.
I didn't really want to talk about what happened earlier so I was doing everything I could to avoid the question Link was trying to ask. It's my problem, not his. I'll find out more about it on my own.
"This is my business, not yours, Link."
So when his horse came, I let him use her for our mission. Normally, I would've told him to get one of the horses already in the stables, but if it would help to avoid the topic, I allowed it.
"Alright," I told him as I looked at his horse, "You can take her."
Link gave me a stange look, probably because I agreed to it, but he eventually formed a smirk on his face.
"Warming up to me already?" he asked.
"Here we go again."
"Ha, you wish. Now let's go."
"Does this guy have like short term memory or something? Oh well, better for me."
I took Onyx out of the stables and sat atop of him. I motioned for Link to follow me and we rode off to Romani Ranch.
*****
We slowed our horses to a trot as we neared the entrance of the ranch.
"What's your horse's name?" Link asked as we continued heading inside the ranch.
I gave him a strange look.
"What? It's only polite that I ask," he said.
"Since when were you polite?" I mumbled under my breath before responding.
"His name is Onyx. And what's your horse's name?"
"Epona," he replied back.
Our horses finally reached a stop and we got off our horses.
"Okay, so we're here today because the owner, Cremia, said that these 'things' have been coming at night and taking their cows."
Link nodded in response.
"While we're here waiting for it to be night fall, we're going to practice our archery skills...unless you already know how to do that as well."
Link smiled confidently, "Of course I know how."
I sighed, "Figures."
I started heading down the dirt path with Link following behind me.
"Hey, (Y/N)."
"Hm?"
"What happened--"
Link's P.O.V.
I was right in the middle of asking when I was suddenly interrupted...again.
"(Y/N)! So glad to know you'll be the one to resolve the problem," a voice said.
"Why am I always being interrupted by people?"
"Yeah, I'm here with my trainee actually. Link, this is Cremia. Cremia, Link."
"Nice to meet you," the woman smiled with a mother-like aura surrounding her. She held out her hand for me to shake.
I know I've been known to try and pick up any girl I meet, but I do know when it's necessary to stop.
I shook her hand and smiled genuinely, "Nice to meet you as well."
"Well that's a first," (Y/N) mumbled under her breath as she realized I wasn't trying anything.
"Hey," I said as I pouted a little, "I'm not that indecent."
"Sure you are," she said bluntly.
"I swear this girl can be so emotionless at times."
"Hi, (Y/N)!" another girl's voice said.
I looked over and my face went pale.
"No way. Malon's here? She's sure to make (Y/N) suspicious."
"Hello, Romani," (Y/N) replied.
"Wait, Romani? I could've sworn--"
"(Y/N)? Is that you?" another voice said.
(Y/N) should just start a fanclub already, sheesh.
"Yes, it is, Malon," (Y/N) chuckled.
"Oh man. Malon is here and she's coming right this way. I hope she doesn't recognize me."
"Well," Cremia started, "Romani and I will go ahead and start feeding the cows. I'll see you two later?"
"Yeah," (Y/N) replied to them.
"Hey, Malon," (Y/N) said as she received a hug from Malon, "Good to see you."
"Good to see you as well," she said happily.
She was completely ignoring me and for once, I was glad a girl was ignoring me.
"So why are you here?" Malon asked.
"On a mission to stop those 'things' from taking your family's cows. I'm here with my trainee actually."
"You are? Where are they?" Malon asked.
(Y/N) pointed to me and as Malon turned to face me, she froze. But then suddenly, her face lit up.
"Link? Is that you?"
Here comes trouble. I will definitely be questioned by (Y/N) later for this. I saw (Y/N)'s face full of confusion.
"You two know each other?"
"Yeah!" Malon beamed, "We actually met back when we were younger. He was actually my first crush," Malon said as she blushed.
What can I say? The girl's love me. Well at least most of them.
"So I see," (Y/N) said taking in the information Malon had just given her.
"Well, it was nice seeing you, Malon, but Link and I need to prepare for tonight's attack."
"Aw, okay. See you guys later."
(Y/N)'s P.O.V.
So they met several years ago, huh? It seems that Link has been hiding something from me. Here I was thinking that he was a complete stranger to Hyrule Kingdom. I must ask him questions later, but for now...
"Link, go practice your archery."
"But I don't need to," he said in his whiny voice...as usual.
"Just do it. There's always room for improvement."
"Fine," he said as he took out his bow and arrow.
*****
It's already night time and Link and I are on the look out for those 'things'.
"Hey, Link," I said.
"Hm?" he replied.
"Tell me something. You've been here in Hyrule already, haven't you?"
No response.
"I know there's no way you couldn't have met Malon if you haven't been in Hyrule. And you two met when you were younger which only proves my point. Just what were you doing here when--"
A sudden light flashed in the sky. Link and I both looked around.
"Link," I said, "Go stand over there. They're here."
One by one, these alien, ghost-like figures showed up. Bright orange eyes shining in the moonlight. Each and every one of them moving towards the barn.
Link and I shot arrows like crazy making sure that none of them reached the barn. Finally, after an hour, they were all gone.
"So, " I said while catching my breath, "How was your first mission?"
Link panted and gave me a thumbs up. We were both pretty tired from all the running and shooting we had to do.
I leaned against the barn walls when suddenly one of those 'things' appeared a couple feet in front of me. This one was different though. It was huge compared to the others. Its eyes weren't round or orange. The were slit eyes with a blood-red color. Black flames surrounded it. It started to come towards me, not the barn. I shot at it like crazy.
"Link! A little help would be nice about now," I said trying to remain calm.
"Right," he said as he jumped up and starting shooting at it as well.
"At least he's cooperative."
I continued shooting at it but the arrows had no effect. It got closer and stared at me. I felt something touch me and after that, the thing just disappeared.
"Are you alright?" Link asked me.
"I'm fine," I replied, "Just a little tired I guess."
I suddenly felt a piercing pain in my left side and everything went pitch black.
