Training: Day One

The alarm clock went ring, ring, ring, as Link was still asleep...

Third Person P.O.V.

(Y/N) walked around the training grounds, shaking her head in disapproval.

"I knew that idiot would be late," she said as she scoffed, "Time to start then."

*****

"Liiiink," Andrew muffled through his pillows, "Could you please turn off that alarm? It's been going to snooze for the past hour already."

Link groaned, "Alright, alright," he replied lazily while grabbing the alarm clock.

Link's P.O.V.

"Wait, the alarm's been going on for the past hour?"

I looked at the time again and jerked up straight out of bed.

"I'm late! Oh (Y/N) is probably going to kill me."

Though I despise that (Y/N) girl, I'm never one to be late, especially when it comes to activities involving fights.

I put on a blue shirt and some brown pants and dashed out the door.

"5:10. Maybe I should've gotten some breakfast...nah. The training isn't that rigorous. And besides, since I'm late, she'll probably be too mad to even work with me. Score one for you, Link."

I mentally cheered on that last part and continued making my way towards Hyrule Kingdom.

(Y/N)'s P.O.V.

I was out practicing my horseback sword skills when I heard an intentional cough. I rolled my (e/c) eyes and turned Onyx around.

"Look who decided to show up. You're thirty minutes late."

He flipped his hair and leaned against the fence of the training arena, "I'd like to consider myself fashionably late."

I laughed a fake laugh, "You call a plain blue shirt and brown pants fashion? You legit only need thirty seconds to put those kind of clothes on."

I saw him curse under his breath. I brought Onyx to the stables and wore (sw/n) in its sheath on my back.

"So," Link started, "When will I get to learn the horseback techniques?"

"Never," I replied bluntly, "Unless you start showing up on time and improve on whatever I plan to teach you."

I threw Link a wooden sword while taking out a wooden sword of my own. Link looked down at it and frowned.

"Aww," he said in one of his childish tones. I swear his actions make me doubt that he's older than me.

"What is it now?" I asked.

"Why can't we use the shiny, metal swords? These are too dull."

"Because it's your first day of training and the metal swords are quite heavy. I doubt you could handle it. Besides, we will be doing a lot of work today and the weight of the metal sword will probably wear you out."

"I'm up for a challenge," he said with arrogance returning to his voice.

I smirked internally.

"He so does not know what he's in for."

"Suit yourself," I said and walked back to get him a metal sword.

Link's P.O.V.

"Ha!"

I laughed at her. Does she really think I am not capable of holding a metal sword. Does she really think that all the training we do today will wear me out? I think not.

I saw (Y/N) return with a plain, metal sword.

"Eh, better than the wooden one."

She tossed the sword to me while pulling out her own. I remembered her saying how the sword was her best friend. How can it possibly be so--

"Dang! That Gonzo dude was right! That sword looks very valuable. No wonder he told her not to leave it unattended."

I snapped back to reality.

"You ready?" (Y/N) asked me.

"Ready as I'll ever be," I replied back.

"Good. Now go run around this arena three times with that sword in hand."

"What??? But running with this sword will make the run even harder," I complained to her.

I saw a glint in her (e/c) eyes. She flipped her (h/c) hair mocking the way I did to mine.

"I warned you, did I not? Now run."

I grunted and started my run.

*****

It has been three hours and I'm already tired, but I can't show that to (Y/N). She actually joined me in the exercises. I gave her a questioning look and she told me it was her job as the trainer to train with the trainee. Seems legit. Or maybe she was trying to rub it in that she was better than me.

"Alright, Link, you get a ten minute break," she said after what seemed like an eternity.

"Thanks, boss," I said as I crawled over to the closest tree. Now I know I said I wasn't going to show weakness but she was facing the other way so I took the chance.

I got under the huge, shady oak tree and put my back against the trunk. I was beyond tired and weak. Maybe I should've eaten breakfast after all...

(Y/N)'s P.O.V.

Link was actually pretty good with training today. Perhaps I should offer him a drink or something for his hard work.

"Hey, Link..."

I heard a sudden crash.

"What the..."

I looked over to see Link on the floor. If that boy was tired he could've just told me. I walked over to him and started shaking him.

"Hey, hey, Link. You want something to drink?"

No response. So I started shaking him more.

"You better not be pretending, Link. This better not be one of your sick womanizing tricks."

Still no response. I looked at his features and noticed he was totally worn out. I realized that he actually lost consciousness. I called for Impa to help carry him back to the castle.

"Dang it, Link. If you couldn't take it, you should've just told me. As a trainer, it is my job to make sure my trainees are in good health condition. Even though you get on my nerves, you are still my trainee."

Link's P.O.V.

Ugh, my head hurts a lot. What even happened? All I remember was falling asleep under a tree. I opened my eyes and looked around. I noticed I was not outside, but rather, in a hostipal-like room.

"So you're finally awake," I heard a very familiar voice say. I looked over and saw that it was (Y/N).

"What happened?" I asked her.

"Well," she started walking around, "You lost consciousness under the tree so I called Impa. The nurse then checked to see if anything was wrong. She said you were malnourished."

She stopped walking and looked at me with a look of sincerity mixed with concern.

"You didn't eat anything before you came here, did you?"

I gave her a sheepish grin, "Nope."

She sighed, "Link, you should've told me. Even if you were late, I would've let you eat at least something. It's not good to go into training without eating anything. It's my job as your trainer to make sure you're kept in good shape."

Now that's a side I was surprised to see from her. She was actually nurturing?

"Aw, until that last line, I was starting to think you were developing feelings for me," I said in an obviously fake, sad tone.

(Y/N)'s P.O.V.

"Tsk," I said to him.

"Well at least I know he's back to his senses."

"Keep dreaming, boy," I told him.

"I was joking," he laughed.

"I know, but I'm not. I'll see you at training tomorrow," I said as I started heading out the room.

"(Y/N), wait," I heard Link say.

I mentally sighed and prepared myself for one of his idiotic actions.

"Thank you. Thank you for caring," he said with honesty in his voice.

Well that's a first.

"No problem," I replied as I finally walked out and closed the door behind me.
