Chapter 10

"Thanks for dropping me back home."

"You're welcome girlfriend."

"No."

"Yes"

"Nope."

"Yep."

"Dude, I said no." I say crossing my arms over my chest.

"You're my girlfriend and that's final. And dude? Seriously? I'm not your dude, I'm your boyfriend." Mason retorts.

"I'm not your girlfriend. Yes, dude. Seriously. You are my dude and no, no you aren't my boyfriend."

"Yet." He concludes.

"No, I'm no-"

"How long are you two kids gonna stay out there?" a voice interrupts our banter. I gulp and turn around to face my father.

Oh dear god, help me.

"Who are you to my daughter?" My dad questions Mason as I stand a few feet away, clutching my bag to my chest. "We just started dating recently, sir." Mason replies.

What. The. Actual. Fuck?

I open my mouth to protest, but my dad quirks an eyebrow and smirks at the both of us. I groan internally, can I just eat stuff and go to sleep now?

"Dad?"

"Yes Hay?" He replies, still smirking at Mason.

What? Hay?

I narrow my eyes at him, "Hay?" I ask, he's never called me that before.

"Yes baby dinosaur, I called you Hay. Did you have something to tell me?"

Baby dinosaur? Hay? What's with the nicknames today? Oh look that rhymed. I think dryly.

"Can I like, eat stuff and then go to sleep, cause I'm tired and I'mma bitch slap anyone in my way." I say. Yes, my dad and I were on awfully good terms and so we talked like that to each other. I loved him, and I might be a slight(major) daddy's girl.

"Yeah, I'll talk to Mason for a little while."

"That's gonna turn into a disaster for Mason." I say with a forced smile on my face. I don't know why I feel so bad. It's like after Mason and I went back to his parents' house, I started having mood swings.

Sighing, I set my bag down by the door in my room and walk to the bathroom. I turn the tap on and walk in under the freezing water. It's so refreshing. I take the bar of soap and the loofah and rub my pale skin with it. I feel like I'm about to faint any second now. It must be due to the lack of sleep that got, well didn't get, last night. I side and lean against the glass door of the shower.

I wonder what my dad is talking to Mason about.

Maybe they're talking about Star Wars.

I'm hungry.

But I just ate, 1 something hours ago.

I'm talking to myself.

No, I'm just thinking out loud.

Darling, I be loving you, till we're...

Okay, Hailey stop.

Does dad think I'm dating Mason?

What is Mason telling my dad?

Why am I feeling so moody?

What is happening.

What happened that I'm thinking to myself?

What the fuck is wrong with my emotions today?

What am even doing, asking myself that?

What is that liquid that I'm feeling on my legs?

I look down to see a spots of red on the inside of my thighs. Great. Of all days? I quickly wash the foam off me and wrap a towel around my body while rushing to the set of drawers beside my closet. I do what I need to and quickly put on my clothes, wanting to know what my dad is talking to Mason about. I tiptoe down the stairs, hoping that they can't hear me. But when I reach the end of the staircase, they've already stopped talking and are waiting for me, with smiles on their faces.

"Hello." I say.

"Hi." they reply in perfect synchronisation, then they gasp and then they're eyes widen. All in perfect synchronisation. I roll my eyes and snap my fingers. "Where's mom?" I ask my father. His head snaps towards mine and he shrugs, "Not home yet." I nod and make my way to the kitchen, halfway there, the front door clicks open and my mother walks in. "Hey honey, I'm home." She says with a smile. I start walking over to her as she makes her way towards my dad but think better of it and go to the kitchen and grab a bag of chips before actually walking over to my mother and hugging her. What can I say? I'm having cravings.

Then the inevitable happens and my mom spots Mason standing a few feet away. She lets out a little squeal(which she never does by the way) and rushes forward to hug him. He lets out a nervous chuckle and pats her back awkwardly. To be honest, this would have been funny if it wasn't my mom. My dad just smiles and shakes his head. "That was, and still is, us." He whispers to me. I can't help but awe at this fact, that my parents are so in love with each other. My father always lives by the motto "Treat your woman, like you did at the start of your relationship all the time and it will never end." I think that's why it's still the same for them, because he still does what he used to do when they first started doing what they do best, loving each other.

My dad grabs her shoulders and pulls her back, seeing as she is squeezing the life out of Mason. I look down at the floor and shake my head with a small smile on my face, a little at her excitement. I look up to see Mason staring at me with that look again. He moves towards me and places his thumb between my eyebrows. "Stop frowning." He whispers against my lips, and my heart beats a little faster, not so much because of him but because of his proximity. I hear a faint noise in the background but it's so faint that I'm not sure if it's real. Mason's hand moves down my cheek, to my lips and lingers, tracing it's shape. My breath comes hot and fast against his fingers as he stares into my eyes. Suddenly, he grabs my waist and pulls me even closer to him. I place my hand on his wrist, "What are you doing? I ask him in a hushed whisper."

He leans down and I think he's going to kiss me but he buries his head on my shoulder. "I'm trying to think of ways to ask you out on a date." He mutters, his lips moving against my neck. A date?

"Then I'm trying to think of ways to properly ask you to be my girlfriend, not just 'be my girlfriend'. You're different from other girls and you don't like or want the same things and it gets hard sometimes you know?"

I giggle, actually amused. "Ask me then." I mumble. He pulls back, smiling and kisses me on the tip of my nose. "We've got a date, get ready." He exclaims, with a mischievous grin on his face. I shake my head at his bluntness and roll my eyes.

"Go!" he pushes me toward the stairs, the bag of chips falling from my hands. I place my hands on my hips and glare at him. He rubs the back of his neck sheepishly, "I'll buy you more?"

I grin and quickly run up the stairs, stopping halfway to yell, "I'm just going for the chips, by the way."

"Sure." He yells back.
