The Belt of Aphrodite
Hey guys, Annabeth here. So I interviewed Darby, and it took a while. I also asked Rick, son of Apollo, for some writing tips. This is actually t first book, so I may write it bad. Percy is looking over my shoulder and telling me I'll do fine, quiet, I'm concentrating.
Anyway, please read the story of Darby Sanders, daughter of Athena.
(Hey guys, admin here. I was planning on writing my story at CHB, but I figured it would work better on Annabeth's account. Enjoy.)
============================
It all started when an empousa appeared on my doorstep.
"Darby, there someone here to see you!" My little sister yelled.
I jumped down the stairs and came to the front door. Standing there was a girl with black hair that was held back in a ponytail. She was also wearing a cheerleading outfit.
Even though I guessed she was like, sixteen, we were about the same height.
"Can I help you?" I asked, cocking my head. She smiled at me.
"Yes, maybe. I'm looking for a Darby Sanders?" The wind changed, and I caught the smell of roses mixed with, wet fur?
"She might be here," I said warily, stepping back. "Why?"
"I just need to see her." She insisted. By now, she was practically inside.
"Darby! Who is it?" My dad yelled from the living room.
"Oh. So you're Darby." She grinned. Suddenly, instead of the stereotypical cheerleader with tan skin, and long legs, she became the stereotypical cheerleader wth tan arms and two different legs, one donkey and the other metal. Her black hair also burst into flames.
"I've been looking for you." She laughs. My eyes widen, and I slam the door in her face.
She kicks it open, sending splintered wood into the hallway. "Can't get away from me that easily Halfblood." She cackles.
I back up, and my dad comes charging put from behind me. In his hands, he's holding a small thin sword, but the blade is gleaming like dull bronze. He swings it around and it goes through her stomach.
She lets out a blood curdling wail before exploding into shimmery dust.
I cough, and turn to face my dad, who is now joined by my mom. "What was that?!" I exclaim.
My mom turns to look at him. "I guess we have to tell her?"
He nods gravely. "She's thirteen. It could happen any moment. She'll be safer it camp."
My eyes widen when I hear their words. Camp? Thirteen? Empousa? All these words connect to a certain series on its own special shelf in my room upstairs.
My parents bring my siblings and I into the living room, the proceed to tell us that I'm a demigod. I have to admit, I had a little fangirl moment at that part.
Logan and Curtis of course, think that's entirely unfair.
Then they drop the bombshell.
"You'll have to leave tomorrow though." My mom says. My face drops.
"What about my friends?" I ask.
"They aren't demigods, that we know of. Besides, you'll be safer as a year rounder." My dad says.
I take my phone out of my pocket. "What about this?"
My dad steals it from my hand and grows it against the wall.
"Well that answers that question." I murmur.
"You'll get a new one at camp, monster-proof, shatter-proof, water-proof, basically unbreakable, thanks to the Hephaestus kids."
Suddenly, a man in UPS uniform appears in our living room.
"Hello hello sorry to drop by unannounced, but Leo wanted me to give this to you. Same number and everything, but right now it's blowing up." He hands me an iPhone, but instead of the Apple logo, it has a Pegasus.
"It's customizable, you can make it look however you want." He informs me, before disappearing again.
I glance at it, and an image appears in my brain. Suddenly, it's on the back of the phone. It's simple. The deathly hallows symbol, but with my fandoms. Percy Jackson, Mortal Instruments, Hunger Games, and Divergent. Of course, Harry Potter too.
"Awesome." I grin.
"Go upstairs and pack. You'll be on the first plane to New York tomorrow." I run towards the stair, but turn back.
"Dad, who is she?" I ask, referring to my godly mom.
"Now where's the fun in that?" He grins.
I roll my eyes and run up to my room to get ready. Except that doesn't happen until the middle of the night practically.
My phone rang before then. I saw my friend Sarah's caller ID, and I cringed. I don't like talking to people over phone call, but I picked up anyway.
"Hello?" I said.
"Okay. Something must be up. You actually answered." She said.
I rolled my eyes. "Does this call have a point?" I laughed.
"Oh. Right." She said. "Guess what guess what goes whaaaaatttt?"
"Hmmmm." I chuckled. "What?"
Her voice suddenly went softer. "Today at school, oh you missed a great day, something happened."
"What?" I said impatiently. She was starting to catch my attention.
"At lunch, we were eating as normal, Tanner was flirting with everybody, when two huge dogs with red eyes bounded into the cafeteria."
"Hell hounds." I breathed.
"Yeah. Anyway, to say I was surprised is an understatement. I mean, I could actually see them. And then, one came after me."
I couldn't help but smile. Looks like my best friend was a demigod too.
"Anyway, I ran. I didn't look to see what else happened, but I heard one of them attacked someone else. I'm not sure who though."
"Are you going to, you know where?"
"Yes! I'm so excited and--holy crap who the heck are you?" She exclaimed. I heard a familiar voice say, "Hermes, now here, take this." Her phone exchanged hands, and suddenly the call was disconnected.
I took my phone away from my ear, and stared at it.
Suddenly, it rang again. It was Sarah.
"Okay. Did you get the super cool changing phone too? Or just me." She gushed.
"Don't worry. I did too." I assured her.
"Wait. How?" She questioned. "Oh my gods no way! You're a demigod too!"
I laughed at her happiness. "Yep, flying over there tomorrow."
"Flight 32 A? Leaving at an unreasonably early time?" She asked, excitement W widens in her voice.
"Oh my gods!" I laughed.
"Oh crap, we should probably pack." She said hurriedly.
I groaned. "Yeah. Guess so."
"Bye. See you tomorrow, three o' clock."
"Don't remind me. Bye Sarah." I said, before disconnecting the call.
I looked at my clock.
"Nine oh seven." I said. "Ready, go!"
I hurried to pack, trying to finish before mine ten. I didn't have to pack a lot of clothes, just jeans and a few extra shirts, and I also packed my straightener and a bunch of hair ties.
When done, I looked over at the clock again.
"Dam. Nine twelve." I complained.
"Darby. Go to sleep!" My dad yelled.
"Yes sir." I tells back. I the. Followed the orders.
***
"Darby come on. We're gonna miss your flight." My dad informs me.
I groan and turn over in bed. "But I don't wanna." I whine. The covers are yanked off of me and I'm exposed to the cold air.
"Up. Now." Then the slam of a door. I sigh and stand up, before a sudden realization hits me.
"I'm actually going to Camp Half Blood." I say to myself excitedly.
I hurry and get dressed, wearing a simple Tardis blue t-shirt, and a pair of jeggings. I pull on my boots, seeing as they're comfortable, and it's cold outside. I pull my hair back in a fishtail, before excitedly going downstairs.
My mom and siblings stood by the door. Logan and Curtis had grumpy frowns on their face, and my mom had sort of a small smile.
"Bye Darby." Logan says, which my brother echoes.
"Bye you two. Don't worry, I'll send you a bucket of strawberries. Dionysus made, only the best. And hey," My voice turns serious. "If you touch my books, I will know."
The both send me devious grins, and I frown, before turning to my mom.
"Bye mom." I say, hugging her. Recently, I've grown taller than her. Now I'm a couple inches taller.
"Bye Darby. We'll see you over spring break?"
I nod. "Of course."
"Come on. Let's go." My dad says, and I leave behind my familiar house.
The drive to the airport takes about an hour, during which I'm drifting in and out of sleep.
When we finally get through airport security, my dad pulls me Ito a hug.
"Bye Sweetheart." I says. We pull back and I grin.
"Bye daddy." He hands me a wad of cash, along with a bag full of drachmas.
"Just in case." He winks at me.
I grin at him, before hugging him again.
I go through the checkpoint and look around for a donut shop. I was starving.
When I finally found it, I bumped into someone who was walking out.
"I'm sorry-Sarah!" I exclaimed when I recognized my best friend.
"Darby!" She returned.
We hugged, and I'm pretty sure I got powdered sugar on my back, but I didn't care.
"I'm gonna grab donuts, wait for me?"
"Sure." She chirped, before sitting on a bench and happily eating her food.
I headed inside and ordered and apple fritter, a hot chocolate, and two bags of donut holes.
"Thank you." I said, smiling, as I left the shop.
"Ok. I'm ready." I said, and she stood up.
We walked over to our gate, and sat down.
"Are you as excited as I am?" She exclaimed.
I nodded. "Who do you think your godly parent'll be?" I questioned.
"I'm not sure. I hope it's like Athena of maybe Hecate, but who knows?"
"I really want it to be Athena." I nodded.
"Boarding flight 32 A." We both stood up, and compared tickets.
"Do you think they planned this?" I laughed.
"I've got no idea." She chuckled.
Our seats were right next to each other, in one of the few rows of two.
I showed the lady my ticket, and she scanned it, before waving me through.
I waited for Sarah, and we walked onto the plane together.
"What'd you bring?" She questioned.
"The kindle, with most of my books on it, my Harry Potter coloring book, my new phone, headphones, and a blanket." I showed her in my carry-on.
"I brought my phone, headphones, and a book." She said. Her bag was a lot smaller than mine.
"Well if you get cold, you can borrow my blanket." I smiled.
She grinned back.
"Attention passengers, this your pilot speaking." I drowned out his speech, instead reading the very interesting foldable on what to do if the plane crashes.
"Did you know that the seats are inflatable?" I said, shaping Sarah.
"Well that's reassuring." She grimaced.
I laughed, and soon the plane was taking off.
The tide was pretty uneventful, with only occasional bouts of turbulence. I did manage to write another chapter on my book, I'm Not Your Type, on my wattpad account (Blonde_Bookworm1101 )
"Darby. Wake up." Sarah hissed.
I opened my eyes sleepily, before excitement took over.
"New York! We're in New York!" I giggled.
"How are we getting to camp?" She wondered.
I cocked my head. "Hmm. I don't know."
We stood awkwardly at the baggage carousel, before I felt a buzz in my jeans.
I pulled out my phone, and saw a message from a number I didn't recognize.
We've sent Mrs. O' Leary to get you, she's waiting outside. It read.
I showed Sarah the text, and her eyes widened.
We grabbed our bags and walked outside. Suddenly, a hellhound bounded up to us.
"I guess this is Mrs. O' Leary?" Sarah said uncertainly.
"Well since we aren't dead, I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say yes."
"Does she want us to climb on had back?" Sarah said nervously.
In response, I swing my leg over her back, and wrapped my arms around her neck.
"Come on you big baby." I teased Sarah. She made a face and climbed on behind me. I kept one hand on my luggage handle as she bounded forward towards a wall.
I instinctively closed my eyes as we hit. The next sensation I felt was extremely cold, and very windy.
We emerged on a warm sunny hill.
"Hey guys. I'm Leo, welcome to camp-aghhhhhhh! I'm on fire!" I voice said from our right.
Sarah and I simultaneously turned to look at him.
"Leo Valdez?" I whispered incredulously.
"Don't worry Leo, I'll save you!" Yelled a voice farther into camp.
Suddenly, a good portion of the lake splashed on top of Leo.
Leo coughed and turned to glare at the other voice.
"I'm gonna kill you Percy." He spluttered.
I turned to Sarah, my eyes wide.
"Percy Jackson!" She whisper exclaimed.
Percy came over the rise, his arm around a pretty blonde girl.
"Hey guys. Sorry about these idiots. I'm Annabeth, this is Percy, and Leo." She pointed to each of them in return.
"Well I'm Darby. And this is Sarah." I pointed at my speechless friend. She waved awkwardly.
"Well I can't wait until your claimed." Annabeth smiled warmly.
We followed her into camp, gazing around in wonder.
"Welcome to Camp Half-Blood." Percy grinned.
