chapter 1
Chapter 1: Shit it is, wizards.
~
Deep in the woods ventured a gutsy fox clan woman formally known as the kitsune or five-tailed foxes, there was a break in the thick treeline grew in size until it took its greater form, a clearing, and with a strange door sitting right in the middle of it.
At her hip sat her pouch; the meager few coins she had left that hadn't either been stolen or lost. Her fur glistened in the harsh winter sun, wet with snow as she stood still in front of the random door.
"That's.....odd to say the least.." She whispers still searching for any sign of a merchant or traveler.
"Oh shades..what if it's a wizard camp? though, why would they hide their dimension spell with such an obvious and out of place door? Nonetheless I think I better tuck my tail and run. Beatings suck; wizard fire Sucks far more.." She thinks a moment on the meager amount of coins.
"Well...maybe enough to bribe someone to not kick the crap out of me and let me buy at least some bread." She advances toward the door expecting a snare to trip on or a wizard to rush out of the door with fire crackling in their palm at any moment.
Alas it never came, right at the door she bent to pick up a necklace she saw hidden in the snow in her maw, as she did however the powdery snow proved a treacherous traitor to her 'hopefully' stealthy approach to retrieve the necklace, and she slipped and banged her head on the door hard.
Jerking backwards and falling flat on her rump, her long fluffy tail painfully crushed underneath her. She sat in the snow a paw rubbing the swelling knot on her head. She randomly went back to her original human form.
"Ow.." She had whimpered.
Black fog begins to arise from the crack of the door, eventually forming into an eerie and nebulous vaguely bird like silhouette that became a man in a cloak of smoke.
"Greetings weary traveller and welcome." The silhouette is pausing for a moment while looking down at the vixen that lies on the ground before him.
"May I be of assistance?" The figure questioned while looming over her.
"Shit it is, wizards!"
She attempts to rise and flee but the world immediately began to spin on her and she plopped back into the snow.
"Just get it over with.....yes yes I'm a monster, please I beg you no fire...." She trails off realizing the friendly greeting, not the expected hatred.
"Wait...do you...not know who I am?" She had a face of bewilderment as she stared at the shady figure in front of her.
"I'm afraid that I do not know your identity, should I know you?" The shadow tilts his head in an obvious questioning manner even though there are no facial features to speak of that could give away his mood.
"I'm actually kinda happy that you don't..." She replies.
"So where does this door go to anyways? I have to say for wizards not really smart to hide a dimension spell in a random door." She had spoke much quieter, almost in a mumble.
"This door leads to a manor, a place for weary travellers to rest and recuperate. The manor is a dimensional convergence point and isn't part of your world but is grounded in its very own world." The silhouette looks around.
"I may suggest that you come inside, this doesn't seem like the most friendliest environment to have this conversation in."
She blinks in surprise.
"That's....a new one...even for me....Couldn't hurt I guess..." She shakily rises to her feet, again the world around her seemed to be spinning and she wobbled, holding her head again.
"So do I just open it? Or is there some kind of magic word I need to say for it to open?"
The silhouette elongates his arm in a welcoming gesture and the door opens, revealing a grand entrance hall.
"As you can see you don't need to do anything, please step inside."
Wobbling still she gingerly makes her way inside, stumbling slightly she makes a quick grab at her coin pouch and dagger successfully managing to snag them both so they wouldn't fall.
The spinning intensified and she was confident if she had any lunch, or breakfast or any meal at all in the last week she would have lost it, but only bitter bile rose in her throat as she crossed the threshold and immediately sat herself against the closest wall waiting for the spinning to stop. She looked back towards the door she had entered and began to speak.
"Thank you, I'm just going to...you know sit here a while..I bashed my head pretty good against the door..seems even the snow is out to get me back there." He laid out a set of proper clothing for a lady as beautiful as her and nodded.
"Take all the time you need, in the meanwhile I took the liberty and equipped you with proper clothes as well as transporting your personal belongings to your room which you'll find on the upper floor." The silhouette points down a corridor.
"Should you feel so inclined, down there you'll find the dining hall where a wholesome meal will be waiting for you. And now please excuse me I have some other business to attend to."
With these last words the silhouette dissolves into black fog that quickly disperses.
-----------------
A boy, who is on his way to the library, enters the entrance hall. He discovers a woman sitting on the ground leaned against a wall. Curiously he steps closer, as he stands besides her he kneels down to check on her.
"Hello, are you okay?" He touches her on the shoulder.
She slowly opened her eyes to look up at the small child with widened eyes.
"Agh!!! Who are you little boy?!" She squealed fixing her rugged clothes.
"I uh..I live here with my big brother and our servants.. My name is Clancy.. Aren't you going to get changed into those clothes lying on the floor next to you?"
He asked motioning toward the pile of clothing the mysterious fellow laid out for her.
"I must of forgotten... " She answered as her cheeks glowed a rosy color.
"Right.. so what's your name miss?"
He quickly changed the subject to avoid awkwardness, he felt bad for the girl laying there against the wall.
"Sorry sorry.., My name is Aurora, you have a fitting name for a well dressed boy as yourself."
She tried her best to compliment him, she never had the chance to deal with children not even when she was his age. Ever since she was young she only knew how to fight and take care of herself. The weak were usually killed off.
"I guess so.." he said while smiling shyly at her, then a thought came through his mind.
"How did you get here?" He blurted out randomly while making a confused yet serious expression for a boy his age.
"I was led by a shady but friendly man, I didn't see his face however because he had a cloak and for some reason it was very dark. " Clancy automatically knew it was his brother and sighed.
"I see so he invited you."
He rolled his eyes, one of them being covered by bandages.
"Uh yeah, what's his name?" She gritted her teeth nervously.
"Ah.. that Aurora was my big brother, Elijah..."
He looked at her with a stern face.
"Is something wrong?"
She blinked wondering why he looked so stiff.
"No miss, I'll catch you later. Don't forget you have clothes to change into."
He turned around and waved her off. She could only watch as he ascended the staircase he showed her the way to.
"How the heck did I not notice those stairs?"
