The Day He Bought It.

It had been on his mind for weeks now.
That stupid ring.
He possibly thought about it
All.
The.
Time.
When he was asleep, he had dreams. Dreams of him proposing to Felix, the love of his life.
When he was awake, he'd space out, ending up with Felix waving his hands in front of his face to get his attention.
And Mark doesn't even want to mention how it is when he records.
He couldn't stop thinking about that damn ring.
Mark wondered what it was, what he was drawn to about it. Was it the actual ring or was it the thought of a ring? A ring around Felix's finger, Mark can see it in his head. Can see it as Felix holds his coffee cup in the mornings, the silver glittering against the ceramic mug. He can feel it as Felix holds his hand when the walk along the beach, the cool metal pressing against his hand. Mark can hear it make a clinking noise against the desk when Felix sits down to record. He's convinced it's taken over his brain now.
Opening his eyes, Mark is met with a sleeping Felix. He looks content, happy where he is, and Mark doesn't want to wake him. Felix is holding onto Mark, practically cuddling him at this point. Mark closes his eyes again, and decides that he's not quite ready to get up yet. He wonders that it's not the ring he's thinking about all the time, not the one that he should be thinking about all the time. Really, he's not thinking about the ring at all. Mark's thinking about the person wearing the ring, his wonderful Felix. The way his Swedish accent pokes through more sometimes. The way his hair almost changes colour in the sunlight. The way that Mark could get lost in his sky blue eyes. No, this isn't about the ring at all.
This is about the thought of being engaged.
Being married.
Finally being able to call Felix his and his alone.
Never having to leave Felix again because of their so-called 'secret' relationship.
Mark wants that.
And he wants that as soon as he can get it.
So he gives in.
Carefully, he removes himself from Felix's grasp, getting up from the bed and wandering out the door. Sitting down at his computer, he opens up the window that has been sitting there for almost a month. The image of the ring pops up, the sterling silver perfect.
'Am I really doing this?' Mark wonders, thinking that he's insane.
Finally deciding on a full-fledged answer,
'Yes.'
Clicking the blue 'Add to basket' button, then clicking the shopping cart at the top of the page, Mark's taken to the page where you fill in your details. Rushing out of the room to grab his wallet, he walks back in and fills out the details. Then the page shows up, the final straw.
'Are you sure you would like to purchase this item?'
Yes.
And with the click of a button,
What's done is done.
Mark almost breathes a sigh of relief, because that was hard and a big deal.
Hell, deciding if you're going to propose to your boyfriend is more than hard and a big deal.
"Hey. What ya doin?" Felix walks in and asks, seeming to still be half asleep.
Quickly closing the window and getting up from the chair, Mark replies,
"Nothing, just checking on the channel. You want breakfast?"
"That would be lovely."
Mark kisses Felix on the cheek as they walk out of the office and into the kitchen.
'That was a close one.' Mark thinks, he knows it's gonna be on his mind all day now.

It comes 2 days later, seeing as they live in Los Angeles.
Mark's lucky Felix isn't home when it does.
Quickly signing the pad and taking the box from the postman's hands, Mark kicks the door closed and sets the cardboard box on the kitchen bench. Grabbing a knife to deal with that stupid packaging tape, Mark walks over to the box and starts cutting. Opening it up, it reveals a small leather box, obviously a ring box. It fits in Mark's hand and he's amazed when he opens it up. He instantly knows
It's perfect.
The small, not wide band is a perfect shining silver, the diamonds around the rim of it are close together. It's amazing. It's perfect. And it's so unbelievably Felix.
Mark smiles,
And he is happy.
Because one day, he knows,
He's going to give this to Felix,
He's going to ask the love of his life to marry him,
And Felix will (hopefully)
Say yes.
Disposing the cardboard, Mark walks to his office, and opening one of the drawers, sets the leather box down inside.
He thought this would be scary, but really,
Excited is a better word.
